Chapter One--Faustus

Her body tensed despite herself.

How she loathed him.

“Alaylah. I still see you are fighting the good fight.”

He chuckled lightly, but the laughter did not reach his green eyes which remained intensely on her. Burning with emerald fire.

“Faustus” she spat the name anger seeping into her eyes, distaste showing on her face.

He chuckled once again and circled around her, his eyes moving over the curves of her taut body, tracing the swell of her breasts in the tight leather.

Alaylah turned with him, moving in a circle, not taking her eyes off of him.

“What do you want? Why are watching me again?”

He chuckled once again then stopped suddenly and his eyes took in the line of her face.

“So lovely” he replied and licked his bottom lips.

She shuddered and backed away from him.

“Enough. Unless you wish you be ashes on the ground as well? If not then leave.”

He moved a step forward and she backed up a step.

“Alaylah. You’ve such potential. If only you’d join me. If only you’d be my queen and rule at my side” his eyes met hers and he circled her speaking low and tantalizingly in her ear.

“We could watch the city burn to ruins together” his body drew closer until he was nearly pressed against her.

“and I could give you pleasure unparalleled to any other you’ve ever known. I could make your body bend and twist in pleasure…make you scream my name” his lips hovered inches from her ear so that she could feel his hot breath on her neck.

Normally his breath would be icy, but he had fed—she could tell.

He had no warmth of his own. Only the blood of humans made his body warm, brought color to his skin, made him almost human—almost.

'He’s an evil creature' she realized and scolded herself for almost forgetting that.

She backed away from him and turned cold eyes to him.

“That will never happen. I would rather be plunged into the depths of hell itself. Then ever let you touch me—ever give my self to you.”

She was growing weary of his presence and said nothing more. She would not waste any more time. She turned and leapt up taking hold of a dangling ladder that lead up to a fire escape. She climbed up and up, until she was on the roof looking down at the pulsating city below.

She knew he would not follow her. As things usually went when he came to seduce her and leer at her—she would insult him and leave and he would slink back into the shadows.

One day though, she knew he would grow tired of the game. She would too.

And someone would have to end it.

One way or the other.

'I will never give in to him' she thought and slowly stood up and leaped from rooftop to rooftop.

What she needed was a nice, hot bath and something to eat.

She felt her stomach rumble at the promise of food.

How long had it been since she had eaten? She couldn’t remember, but she had come to realize in the last week or so that she seemed to grow less and less hungry every day.

'Could it have something to do with that night?' She scolded her self once again.

She was being ridiculous she had been wounded before, she had been stabbed plenty of times. But it had been very strange.

The creature hadn’t stabbed her with a knife, or sword or even tried to bite her.

It had taken some glowing pointed crystal-like thing and stabbed into the soft flesh of her shoulder.

She felt an ache grow just thinking about it. It had hurt a lot. It had nearly allowed the hideous demon to capitalize on her weakness and kill her, but she had survived.

'It had hurt something awful though. Almost as if when he stabbed me a sort of electrical shock went through me' she thought and shook her head dismissing such a foolish notion.

After a nice bath and something to eat I’ll be fine. It’ll clear my head and maybe I can figure out what to do about Faustus…he won’t wait forever' She let the thought trail off.

She shook her head slowly as she leap from rooftop to rooftop and finally swung her feet through her bedroom window.

She stiffened. Sensing something there in the darkness.

Why had she left the window open? It was so foolish.

'Well so much for a bath and a snack' she thought wistfully and turned, slowly drawing her gun, alert and ready to kill whatever creature had dared to enter her home.
