Half-Life of a Cat
“My name is Chi, Chi Omikumora. I know what you want me for. You need my hand from something don’t you.” Chi announced, trying to break the frustrated silence of Neko. They’d been wandering through the Labyrinth for what seemed hours, coming up on different dead ends and circles.
“Listen human if I wanted to get to know you I’d ask, but your insolence is not needed here.” Neko snapped, she felt uneasy walking through this place. It seemed as if her soul was being torn in two, she stopped and pushed the human back behind her.
“Move, man.” she called as she shoved him back. She threw out her left hand, a horse-sized flaming cat jumped out. The cat’s icy blue eyes looking up at Neko. The cat sniffed the air, and looked back behind the two. Her eyes never moved as it began walking, almost as the cat were not alive. The air thinned as we came closer to what was the end, yet the cat seemed to be vanishing. Sweat beaded down Neko’s head as they came into view of a large stone at the end of the Labyrinth. The cat vanished with a growl, Neko fell against the wall sliding to the floor. Chi ran to her side, asking her if she was alright. Swatting him away with one hand she pointed up at Tenchi.
“What have you done to her?” Tenchi asked as he snatched up the human by the arm he held in his tunic. Tenchi’s eyes fell straight to the hand, it was black covered in purple markings. Its claws almost as long as Tenchi’s own fangs.
“Are you of man?” Tenchi asked tossing him away and reaching for Neko, without dropping his eyes from that hand. The man swiftly tucked his hand back into his tunic.
“Half of me is of man, other half demon.” Chi said, hanging his head low, “I try hard to fit in with the humans but it never seems to work. Except for the old man in the Inn today, it was awkward almost as if he came in for me.”
“Silence yourself Where is he?” Tenchi interrupted, there was another presence in the room. He snatched out his hand to grip a wing, it was not a demon exactly. It had the face of a human, fangs long as both Tenchi’s and Neko’s together, claws just as long, pale white skin except for the grey wings. Its eyes held grey anger.
“WHO DARES TAKE PRESENCE IN MY HOUSE? ” the being called snatching its wing away from Tenchi, it was almost as if it could not see those affront him. It sniffed the air, as it lowered itself to the ground, “An Angel here in this place, HA You will surely die, yet the taint on your soul will only cause half of you to wither away.” it took a step towards Neko, and bent down, “Have a nice after life.” Tenchi snatched the beings hair, leading it over to him.
“And what do you smell on me?” Tenchi asked propping his pole-axe up against the wall, and letting go of the things hair. It sniffed the air again.
“Hmm, what a delightful presence. Strong as a god yet residing from Hell herself. Ahhh, yes you. . . Tenchi, I believe last we met you gave me this scar.” the being said exposing his left wing and a large pink scar across it. Tenchi’s eyes widened, his mind grew frantic as he realized the fate he’d walked into.
“Shinma Tokumaru King of Dragons, what is it you want here?” Tenchi asked enraged.
“Tenchi Soul Swallower of Hell, you will only take the soul of Taike-ichi Killer of Gods by force.” Shinma screamed taking to the air as the great axe Eternity suddenly appeared in his hand. Tenchi smiled, remembering their last battle, Neko winced in pain. Tenchi took his gaze to Neko as he ridded himself of his armor. He walked up to her, she pushed him away and tried to stand. Tenchi put his foot on her back pushing her down to the ground, he dug his claws into his wrists and dripped his blood upon her head. The blood was black and smoked as it touched her skin.
“It’ll help, take his soul so that you can survive in this realm of mine.” Tenchi removed his foot from her back, and recovered his pole-axe. He ventured towards Shinma, his eyes synchronizing with Shinma’s own. It was as if they both were just one and they had a vendetta for one another. They paused just looking, staring, awaiting something.
Shinma screamed out as he dashed down at Tenchi, he parried his attack and turned to face him. Tenchi tossed his pole-axe, as an insult to Shinma. Shinma dashed again, he was stopped by Tenchi’s hands on his shoulders. Shinma’s eyes widened, it was not the same tenchi he’d fought over a century ago, he tried to snatch away yet every time he tried Tenchi dug his claws deeper into his shoulders.
“Scared?,” Tenchi asked Shinma with a smirk, “You know I can smell it, so just be honest with me, are you scared?” He didn’t await an answer from the struggling dragon, he began to drag him to Neko. The sounds of Eternity dropping to the ground echoed through the enormous room. Tenchi stopped as he felt the cold hands within his abdomen, he looked down at the smile among Shinma’s face. His eyes glow red, it was his first mistake, as I felt his hands begin to ignite Tenchi’s body from inside out. Tenchi let go of Shinma, licking the blood from his hands, snatching Shinma’s hands from him. Shinma went to claw at Tenchi’s face, his hand was caught and Tenchi swiftly ripped off Shinma’s wings. Shinma fell to the ground as Tenchi threw the wings at him. Tenchi kicked him over to Neko, Shinma looked up at the struggling hunched over angel and dug his claws into her sternum. The blood splashed to her face, as her hangs glow white and she dug them into him. Her hands only reached for his soul, yet she could not grasp all of it. Neko ripped half of his soul out without a single thought, she pulled her hands from him. Her eyes rolled back into her head as she closed them, her eye lids flicked violently. Her head lurched back as wings shot out of her back, surprisingly they were demonic much like Shinma’s even holding the same scar. Her skin darkened to a light tan, fangs grew slowly protruding out of her lower lip. Blood dripped down her back and lower lip as she slowly regained consciousness. She looked up at Tenchi, he was admiring Eternity. Shinma lay on the ground trying to gather himself.
“WO. . .Woman,. . . I see why,. . .you were. . .Ban. . .Banished.” he said falling in and out of consciousness. Tenchi slowly walked to wards Shinma, black clouds retaking their place around his hands as he bent down to swallow the remainder of Shinma’s soul.
“We need him, to break the seal and to split the soul. Equal power for the both of us.” Tenchi said tossing away Shinma’s body and equipping his armor and instead of reaching for his pole-axe he took hold of Eternity.
“The human has hid himself among the shadows, there.” Neko pointed without even opening her eyes. She snapped her fingers and looked over towards him. Tenchi was drawn back, her eyes were a mysterious blood red as she looked over into the shadows yet when she looked at tenchi directly they were their regular grey. The Half-breed came from the shadows.
“Are you done here?” he said looking around at the different colors of blood, and Shinma’s soul-less body. He rubbed the wrist of his demonic hand, and walked towards them. A bolt of lightening went from the top of the rock straight down to Chi’s hand, he screamed out in agony. Tenchi and Neko watched his body burn from his left hand on.
Suddenly the rock exploded and Chi was blasted back into a wall, and there were two lights that shone from where the rock once stood.
“Are you sure he killed all gods he fought?” Neko asked, walking towards the white light. It was the signature of the Angels yet there was no reason it was sided with a flaming light.
“I guess not,” Tenchi said grasping hold of the flaming light, it dispersed into his body. He tried not to cringe yet his body let out a scream as he felt his soul overwhelm. Neko watched Tenchi as she grasped hold of the white light, her head snatched back as she was lifted off of the ground. Her wings suddenly grew an awkward feathery pattern among them. She was placed back on the ground and suddenly it hit her, the power in her soul. It knocked her down, she laid their unable to move. All she could do is watch, watch as the human stood from the other side of the room and ran, ran to nowhere.
