The Secret

Paranoia

Chapter 1 - The Secret

It was a rather nice day, for September. Unfortunately, it meant the start of school. For Louis, it meant another start to a stress filled year of hiding his identity, and trying to make it through school without failing. He sighed heavily at the thought, adjusting his dark blue, over the shoulder, bag, with a little alien embroidered on the side. Fidgeting slightly, he glanced about from his place under his favourite willow tree. Where were his friends? Even if they were late, Kenny should have been there. Biting his bottom lip nervously, he pulled his knees to his chest, resting his head lightly on top of them. Glancing about, green eyes anxious, he nearly whimpered as he saw no familiar faces. "Oh no... Have they... Decided that I'm to twitchy, nervous, and strange to be their friend anymore?!" he gasped out, a horrified expression forming on his features.

Louis nearly shrieked as he felt a figure latch onto his shoulders, followed by an annoying gnawing sound. Turning his head, he glared at Rupert. "Ugh! Don't do that!" he whined out, a cute pout forming on his lips. He hated that noise, it was like nails on a chalkboard to him.

"Sorry, sorry!" Rupert laughed out casually, grinning his infamous cheesy smile. No person in their right mind could resist the smile. Hugging his lanky friend, he rested his head idly on top of the head of flaming hair. 'Ha... His hair isn't the only thing that's flaming,' he snickered mentally, scanning along the crowd boredly. "Any signs of Satan and Dweeb-face?" he yawned out, nuzzling into Louis' hair. He couldn't help it. It was unnaturally soft.

"Satan and Dweebface? Oh! You mean Kenny and Wren. No... I haven't seen them," the redhead stated almost sullenly. He couldn't help it if he became worried for no reason over his friends. It was just who he was. He glanced about the crowd once more, his eyes brightening. There, he spotted his two favouritest runts in the world. Standing up abruptly, he winced as he heard Rupert flop hard onto the ground. "Sorry!" he laughed out, before dashing towards the pair. With an loud squeal, he practically clung to Kenny.

Releasing a loud 'ack', Kenneth found himself in a familiar bear hug. Grunting, he glared at the overly-happy redhead, before wiggling out of his bone crushing embrace. "It's good to see you too, Louis," he muttered, ridding his clothes of wrinkles he had just obtained. Glancing over at Wren, he rolled his eyes to see him trapped in Louis' signature bear hug. Shaking his head, he glanced over at Rupert boredly, flashing him a slight smile.

Rupert nearly fell over at the smile. He didn't know why, but every time he saw Kenny smile, it made him want to smother the kid. 'God, he's so cute and he doesn't even know it,' he thought adoringly, ignoring the background cries of dismay from Wren as affection was thrust upon him by Louis. "How was your summer, Ken?" he asked warmly, fighting down the blush as Kenny gave him a brilliant grin. He swore he swooned.

"Quite well, actually. The trip to Rome was spectacular. I'll have to show the pictures when they're developed," he chuckled out, glancing casually at the now furious Wren as he hit Louis continuously. Shaking his head, he turned his gaze back to Rupert, arching a brow at the slightly dazed look on his friend's face. "And how was yours?" he questioned softly, shifting his bag.

"O-Oh!" Rupert squeaked out, nearly missing the question. He had gotten lost in gazing at his friend's rump. "I-It was good. I went to the best Anime Convention ever!" he stated ecstatically, bouncing slightly. He loved conventions, especially ones where he got to meet famous people. Shaking off the thoughts, he cleared his throat, a flush spreading across his cheeks. "I umm... Also did alot of work with my dad and gardening," he finished, before glancing back at his other friends.

Wren practically roared his anger, swing his backpack at Louis. "I told you too never hug me!" he yelled, beating the dumb, redhead with his heavy bag continuously. He hated getting affection from people he didn't want it from. He was about to pounce the taller man, when the Academy bell rung, signaling for everyone to get inside. Glaring down at Louis, he gave the 'I'm watching you' hand signal, before storming in.

Louis sighed heavily, rubbing his bruised skull slightly. Wren could be so moody sometimes. Scratching his head, he was about to follow his friends inside, when a familiar ring tone caught his attention. Halting slightly, he whipped out his cell phone, listening quietly. "But now...?!" he whispered, ignoring the stares he got from his friends. "Yes... I understand... Good-bye," he murmured closing the phone. Turning, he ‘eep’d as he saw the skeptical glances he got from his friends. "Ermm... Mom just told me she needed me to drive her to the Doctor's Office!" he excused lamely, shrugging slightly. "Could you guys move me into my dorm room?" he pleaded slightly, clasping his hands together. He sighed happily as they shrugged and agreed, before turning and running towards the parking lot.

Tilting his head, Kenny arched both brows. "Have you noticed how odd Louis has been lately...?" he questioned softly, receiving a nod from Rupert. "I think.. He's hiding something from us..." he concluded, before turning and heading towards the dorms. "After all, a mother can only get sick so many times a day," he muttered, entering the building with his friend.

Louis glanced about the parking lot nervously, before heading towards the trash area. Groaning slightly as he opened the largest dumpster, he peeped over the edge. Releasing a muffled shriek, he felt himself being sucked into the bin, leaving no trace of him being in there. Screaming as he went through a pressurized tube system, he soon found himself face first on a moving platform. Releasing a pained grunt, he stood up, brushing himself off. He hated how he had to get to Center Paranoia. It was so painful.

Glancing about, he found himself ogling at the monstrous, and extremely advanced, computers. This place was so high-tech, it made his head spin. Sighing softly, he approached another pressurized tube. Inhaling deeply , he stepped within the glowing tube. Flailing his arms as he felt he body begin to rise, he shot up through the tube, screaming like a girl the entire time.

Reaching the top, he gasped loudly, his breath leaving him at the sudden halt. Sighing loudly, he fixed his hair quickly, glancing about. The room was luxurious, to say the least. Everything was basically silver or gray, hints of colours here and there. A large fish tank filled with beautiful, tropical fish sat in the middle of a carpeted lounge area. Beyond it, sat a large working desk, and behind it, sat his boss. " 'Morning, Lucian!" he chirped out, prancing towards his boss.

Giving the other a small smile, Lucian nodded his head, black hair neat and slicked back in place. He wore an expensive armani suit, and a neat red tie. Eying the red head with calculating, brown eyes. "Good morning to you too, Louis," he stated politely, folding his hands on his work desk. "I take it... You have the photos?" he questioned quietly, eyes intent on the other.

Louis sighed and nodded, reaching into his alien bag. Rummaging through his many comic books, and doodles, he yanked out several photos. In the photos, there was a young, blonde girl. She was 16 with long, blonde hair, and blue-ish eyes. Handing them to Lucian, he snickered as his boss snatched them a little to quickly. He stifled his laughter as he watched the man practically go into lala land at the sight of his secret love. "Now, is this all you wanted, sir?" he chuckled out, closing his bag.

Sputtering slightly, Lucian the photos in his desk drawer, regaining his composure. "No; I have a gift for you," he started, reaching under the desk. Pulling out a small, black egg, he set it on his desk, smiling at the other. "Think of it as a Back to School gift," he stated happily, gesturing for Louis to take the egg.

Eying the thing curiously, Louis scooped it up into his hands. As he was about to ask what it was, his eyes flew wide open as it began to hatch. Releasing a small eep, he sat it back on the desk, watching it intently. In moments, the egg literally exploded, leaving behind... "A... dragon...?" Louis questioned quietly, looking at the midnight-black dragon, with silver spikes along it's back, and brilliant white eyes. Crouching down, he stared at the pocket-sized dragon, grinning slightly. "I... Get to keep it...?" he giggled out, beaming brilliantly as the little dragon waddled towards him, making squeaking sounds of delight.

"Indeed you do," his boss answered kindly, now folding his hands in his lap. "I trust you'll take excellent care of this little fellow, yes?" he questioned, only receiving an ecstatic nod from the young agent. Nodding in return, he turned so that the back of his large chair faced the other. "Good; Be warned though, sometimes it will grow to it's true size, so be on your guard," he stated, never turning to see the other off.

Louis could only nod, scooping up the small dragon. "Eheh~ I'm going to name you......" he paused, furrowing his brow as he tried to think of a name. "Edward!" he concluded, beaming brilliantly as he left the office. His exit, of course, was followed by his signature girlie scream as he went through the pressurized tubes. Except this time, a small, shrill roar accompanied his scream.

Yelping, Louis and Edward found themselves flying out of a dumpster, as if it were spitting them up. Hitting the pavement, Louis 'oof'ed as the small dragon landed smack-dab on his face. Grinning slightly, he sat up, pulling the dragon off of his face. Glancing about, he was relieved to see no prefects, teachers, or fellow students around. Placing the dragon in his bag, he turned towards his dorm. "Oh lord..." he halted, groaning loudly, "This secret's gonna be so much harder to hide now..." With that, he dashed towards the building, attempting to think of how to hide Edward.
