The first signs

I'm trying to up date once a week nowApril 2nd

It’s Tuesday evening and under my arm is a neatly wrapped parcel filled with the James’ pictures. I am wearing my favourite jeans, knee-high boots and a corset but over it I wear a long black woollen coat that my ex boyfriend had got me the previous Christmas. I checked the address and confirmed that this grand house belonged to the James’ I open the large steel gate just enough for me and the parcel to squeeze through then close it. I walk up the pathway and lights flick on automatically, I like the sound of my heals on the wooden path that leads me to the large ebony door set into white painted walls. I ring the bell and nervously I fidget then silently chid myself for this. The door opens and I see one of the twins, I find myself feeling disappointment that it was not Adam.
“Hi, I’m here delivering your photos, is your mum or dad available to sign for them?” I ask. She grins at me and eyes the box before calling into the house.
“Photos are here” Such a small girl for such a loud voice but as certain as I am female there’s the sound of shoes on polished wood flooring.
“Hey I’ve been waiting for you” Adam says as he pulls the open further and gestures for me to come in. I step into the hall way it was obvious that the family had money, he pushed another £50 note this time I took it from him folded it then slipped it back into his pocket.
“Really I don’t want your money.” I insist.
“How about a coffee?” He asks signing the collection slip.
“Sorry I have to get to my other job” I smile apologetically. “Well I best go, enjoy the pictures”
Like a real gentleman he races ahead of me to open the door; I thank him as I walk through it, I exit the building and when I reach the gate I turn my head to glance over my shoulder, he waves, I shoot him a flirty smile before slipping through the gate and vanishing into the darkness. As I walk to the bus stop and idly wonder what the night ahead holds.

April 9nth
That night at work passed like every other loud music, bad dancing and equally bad chat up lines the latter coming from my colleague Jimmy but tonight starts just as that night did I hung my coat up in the back room of the club and checked my make up. Jimmy came in and run his hand over my shoulders.
“You’re tense” he says as I shrug his hand off.
“Let just get tonight over and done with” came my answer as I put the last touches to my face. I stand up and step back, away from the small mirror and bump right into Jimmy who wraps his arms around me.
“Some one needs a cuddle” he nuzzles my neck.
“Please let me just get on with my job I’ve had a tough day” I snap. It was true, I had gone to see my mum who had taken a bad turn and was almost in a vegetable state just laying there in the bed staring not responding to any thing or any one. My eyes fill up with tears and I fight them back but they fall any way, this time when Jimmy hugs me, I do not fight. He was still a good friend to me even if he did want to get in my pants. He smoothed my hair and soothed away my tears. One I got it out of my system I felt drained but I still had a night’s work ahead of me. I fixed the mess my tears had made of my make up and Jimmy looked at me with serious eyes, which I avoided by heading out of the room and into the nightclub. Tuesday nights were always the worst; business was always slow so me and Jimmy were stood around the scenery just chatting when some one approached. I barely even looked up until I heard him say my name.
“I thought I’d cash in my free photo” he grinned cheekily.
“Mr James” I smile brightly.
“Adam, or AJ” He smiles and the girl at his side is giving me dangerous looks. “One of me and the gang please.”
He quickly introduced me to his friends, the girl at his side draped herself on him as if claiming him but he did not respond.
“Well if you guys would pose” I say loudly so they can hear me over the tensioned throb of the music. They pose, funny faces, tongues poking out, legs and armed tangled and unbalanced but he lighting is right to bring out my main focus. He stares right into the camera and smiles, some how I know that smile is meant for me and not the tart that has draped herself over him. From behind the camera I smile and shoot the picture. I print his picture and give it to Adam. The others purchase theirs before heading to the dance floor.
Adam lingers behind “I never got to get you that coffee” He laughs “so can I get you a drink?”
“Sure Lemonade please” he smiles and leaves.
“Who is that?” Jimmy asks
“Just a customer of mine” I smile watching Adam at the bar.
“Oh really” Jimmy said raising an eye brow at me. I laugh at the suspicious look that marred his features.
“I barely know the guy” I say dragging my eyes away from him. “He just walked into the photo shop to have a shoot done with his family, kept the shop open ten minutes late so he paid me extra for it.”
I accept my drink and thank Adam he smiles at me and I return it before I sip my drink.
“Next up the dancing Duo KC and Dr L!” I start as I hear my name called and moaned hiding my face. Every one who has ever been to Bar Killogo knows that every so often the staff gets called up on stage to perform. When they found out my mum had been a dance instructor they paired me up with Jeno, code name Dr L. Me and Jeno spent hours training when ever we could. Jeno, ha, what is there to say about him, he’s a Greek god who works nights here behind the bar while putting himself through university and completely gay.
I groan and find myself being pushed towards the stage, mindlessly I tromp up the steps and Jeno introduces up, I slip back stage to change my shoes and jeans into a skirt and sling backs. I come back out and Jeno holds out his hand to me. I take it and focus on his face as he spins me in.
“Sex on the dance floor my dear?” He says with that all too familiar cheeky grin. I stamp my foot and twirl away from him, My answer. He peruses me and I turn to him. He pulls me tight to him and I feel that chiselled chest, he cheekily runs a hand up my side and then back down. Our feet move like fire over dry leaves. People gasp and cheer and still I’m aware of their eyes.
When we stop dancing Jeno bows to me and smile flick my hair over my shoulder and curtsy to the crowd. The crowd go wild; when the next song strikes up I notice people attempting to copy the dance. This always makes me smile. Kicking off the sling backs I shrug into my Jeans. I zip up my boots and go back to my post Adam is grinning and applauding.
“Is there any thing she can’t do?” He teases; I feel my face flush at the praise.
“Play piano” I joke.

Adam stayed at my side as I worked for the rest of the night, we watched as his friends danced, we joked and talked. When the bouncer was ushering every one out Adam ducked his arm. I was surprised, we’d already said good bye.
“Judging by the look on your face you either going to ask me out on a date of for a favour” I joke as I pack away my kit.
“The later” he states and I chuckle at his nervousness.
“Ask away” I find myself disappointed, hoping for the date over the favour.
“How about I give you a lift home and I can ask you then?” he says as the bouncer scowls at him.
“Sorry my room mates driving me home” I smile sadly.
“Call me tomorrow then and we’ll discuss it?” I find myself agreeing.
“How about over coffee?” I suggest, he beams and kisses my cheek.
“Three pm Starbucks on Main Street?” I nod and he’s gone.
