Madlodger: the mind revealed....
Wow, I actually had some drive-bys. Good enough stuff. I don’t care if your finger slipped, I’ll take the click. I know, that’s just sad.
Madlodger, kudos of being First. (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO TYPE AN AVERAGE CHAPTER?
These answers are going to be based off of my current works: Cake; Cinnamon and Caramel. This is also because my writing style has changed over the past couple of years and I am now more happy and content with my work. There might be spoilers here. Beware.

So, my goal is 10 single spaced pages (single line between paragraphs) per chapter. A few chapters are at 9 – just because it was the logical place to break the drama/action. A lot more are 10+ with probably about 10 chapters are reaching between 13-16 pages per novel.
The average word count is 17,930 per chapter. I failed math three times, so I just quit running into a brick wall. So roughly, and I mean roughly, there are about 1790 words per page. I don’t sit there and count it as I go. This is all story/plot driven.
I think I have mentioned it before that my stories have been playing in my head like a mini movie. Some days it’s like I got DSL video capabilities, other days it’s like I’m cranking on an old 1920’s movie camera. I’ve whipped off a chapter in two hours. I’ve languished over one for 10 hours.
But I think the key is to set aside a time to write and keep to it. When I was robbed, they took all my entertainment, so, I started writing to entertain myself. I’ve replaced everything but I’m not a slave to it any more. Tv was on from 5 pm to 1 am. Now I write from 7 or 8 until 11 every other day. I have the luxury of that time. Not everyone is so lucky.
On average, I would say, it takes probably 6 hours to get an average chappie done. No matter the content. However, the sex ones are extremely easy to write. Must be the Hentai in me. (teehee)
HOW MUCH EDITING ON CONTENTS DO YOU DO AFTER TYPING OUT THE FIRST DRAFT? OR THE FIRST DRAFT IS WHAT WE SEE? I JUST WANT MORE SPECIFICS.
As I know, you have read my stuff, you know damn well I don’t spend enough time on it. I let the miniscule editors in word check my spelling and grammar then I let it fly. I probably should take more time, but I am so into instant gratification.
There are times I print off the chappie and sit on for a couple of hours or a day just because it is complicated and I need to review it to see if what I wanted to cover is actually covered. I hand edit those pages, then make the corrections on the computer then post it or edit it.
What you are currently getting is my first draft. As I mentioned, the Cinnamon, Caramel universe has altered and this means that I have to go back and edit Cake to reflect that. Ie. CLAUDIUS IS NOT MARCUS’ LOVER…NEVER WAS, NEVER WILL BE. I will be taking the red pen to those references in Cake.
My characters are not full formed when I started. I sure as heck didn’t know that our poor little sex slave in Cake was going to turn into multiple personalities. I didn’t know Marcus was a banana either. Claudius was supposed to show up have sex and disappear. Sigmund the deadly fruitcake was just supposed to be that, a fruitcake. I didn’t intend to make him a noble sort of being. Liam—he came out of the blue. And as I said, what the is hell up with a talking Katana named Endellion? My subconscious is working overtime.
So what you are getting on AFF is my first draft. Warts and all. The little movie is still playing in my head of what is going on so I continue to motor forward until I run out of film. I have a sneaking suspicion that Book 3 will not be the end of the Little One. Don’t hold me to that.
Hope this helps.
