The Queen Bee
Ch.2 “The Queen Bee”
-Wednesday, two days earlier-
Lunch tables; they are the staple of who exactly you are, what you are about and where the hell you are going in life. You could be at the table where all the smart people sat; you knew they were the ones that you called nerds now, but would later be calling boss. The table where the stoners gathered and laughed at the stupidest things. The athletes sat outside, away from the mere mortals, and basked in their greatness. Outcasts sat at a table by the far wall, banned from normal, social interaction.
Amber’s table sat right in the middle of all the other tables. Who exactly are they? The popular, rich, snobby students who drove the most expensive cars, partied every weekend like it was their last, and were feared yet respected amongst the rest of the student body. What were they about? Living each day like it was their last and never holding back. Where was their life leading them? Wherever their parents could afford. They were everything; they grew up knowing that, lived knowing that and would die believing that. They were everything.
“So that bitch, Mrs. Kennings. She gave me a D on my Anatomy test.” Jordan, a cute girl with honey blond hair bitched, poking at her salad with her plastic fork. She was Jordan Hew’s, the daughter of a leading Cosmetic Dental Surgeon and an Orthodontist… ironic huh?
Amber rolled her eyes. “Did you even bother to study?” she sighed.
A guy with shaggy brown hair grinned, then winked at a passing girl with a short skirt. “Yea, Jor… study, study, study. You know that’s Amber’s motto”. James Leery’s Father owned several Ford and used car dealerships and sold Real Estate on the side.
The table laughed, everyone grinning at Amber, who was glaring harshly. “I don’t fucking study all the time. Its not my fault that I’m smart and some people aren’t” she looked pointedly at Jordan.
“Then again, some people don’t sleep with teachers either” Jordan retorted, sitting up in her seat. Once bitch, Amber thought, that happened once.
“Hey now, guys. Come on” Rae interjected, “lets change the topic, shall we.” she turned to a guy with short black hair, a nice tan and honey brown eyes. Rae‘s father was a well known commercial architect and her mother was a college History professor. “Baden… how is that record deal coming?”
Amber rolled her eyes; Baden Villa had big dreams in the music business. His mother was a big time lawyer and only worked on the ’really big cases’ while his father was some kind of ancient artifacts collector/archeologist.
Amber always thought he sounded like a dying cat in heat whenever he sang. Sure he was nice and great with the ladies… and extremely hot. But there was always that tiny problem of being tone deaf that Amber always thought stood in his way.
“Its going.” Baden shrugged. “I should be hearing from them in a couple weeks.”
The table continued to chat about their day and gossip about who is knocked up, who hooked up with who, where the next party was going to be and the biggest question of all…
“Where the hell are we chillin tonight?” James grinned. He winked to a red-headed beauty with plastic curves and an indoor tan. She sighed, rolling her eyes.
“Don’t give your hopes up James… I have a date tonight… I cant” She answered, licking her lips in habit. Leigh Anderson’s parents owned a publishing company and produced small films.
“And who is the unlucky son-of-a-bitch?” Baden joked, smirking.
“Someone I met at a party; you guys don’t know him” Leigh quipped, looking at her nails.
Amber raised her eyebrows, distracted with a little freshman who just spilled their lunch all over themselves. “MmmHmm” she hummed, then yawned.
“Can we chill at your house tonight Amber? Your dad is out of town, right?” Rae asked, her eyes bright.
Amber’s father was a well-to-do speaker on topics such as self-help and managing your money; he got paid big bucks for a two hour speech on top of carefully invested millions that had accumulated over the years from their past, and deceased, family members. There was a family rumor of some Mafia or another. Amber never believed it.
Amber clicked her tongue, pondering if she really wanted anyone else besides Rae and the few other people she chilled with outside of school at her house while they were wasted. Everyone grinned at her, knowing what she was thinking.
“Come on Amber… its your senior year” James taunted, “live a little”
“Just don’t… fucking break anything” she finally sighed, smirking. “That’s the last thing I need.”
Jordan rolled her eyes in disgust. “Like it would matter. Daddy dearest would just buy something new to replace it”
“Shut up Jordan” Amber snapped. “No one asked your opinion. You better not fucking show up either.”
“Like I would waste my time”
Amber and Jordan rivaled each other since freshman year. It was a hate-hate relationship that never ended. Amber reacted to Jordan’s comments and Jordan got upset over anything Amber had or did better than she. Both girls were the most sought after amongst the school and both came from extremely wealthy families. It was bound to happen; they were just too damn competitive.
&&&&&&&&&&&
Music filled the hallways and rooms of the rather large house, as the group of teens sat in the kitchen, filling the room with laughter, smoke and the smell of liquor. Baden and Krystal -a pretty girl with auburn hair and big brown eyes- were making out against a counter, pumped up with pot and X. Amber never messed with pills. Weed and liquor were her friends and her great escapes. She loved the high feeling mixed with a great tipsy buzz feeling… with still being a little in control of her own emotions and body. She didn’t like the thought of losing full control of herself.
James was trying to hook up with Amber once more. He always did try to. But Amber was just not interested; she kissed him a few times, but never let it go beyond that.
“Yes! I love this song” Amber giggled, getting up from her seat next to James, Brandon, Rae and Tony. She climbed on top of the island countertop in the kitchen and started swaying to the music.
“I cant shake this feeling from my head
There’s a devil sleeping in my bed
He’s watching you from across the way
I cannot make this feeling go away
I know its not the right thing; I know its not the good thing
But kinda I want to…”
Cat calls were heard from her friends as she laughed and continued to dance, getting more into it.
“Ow Ow! Come on Am, strip! Strip! Strip!” some people started chanting.
Amber laughed and finished her Gray Goose and Cranberry Juice. She threw the red plastic cup somewhere to her right and moved more sensually, beginning to raise her shirt over her head.
“I’m not sure of what I should do
When every thought I’m thinking of it you…
All of my excuses turn to lies
Well maybe God will cover up his eyes”
A thin layer of sweat could barely been seen on her body as she got down from the counter and started dancing around the kitchen, giggling all the way but still very much into the music.
“And I know its not the right thing; I know its not the good thing
But kinda I want to…”
And then it started; it always happened, some how or another. Amber straddled Rae’s lap and danced sensually on top of her, laughing and having a good time with it. Rae laughed too and went along with their little act. It always got the guys going.
“Kinda I want to, maybe just tonight; we can dance all night
What’s the price I pay? Don’t care but they say: I want to!”
Amber’s head buzzed even more, she smiled and laughed at the feeling. It was a good night tonight. Rae laughed along with her and leaned over to kiss her boyfriend. Amber kept dancing on top of Rae and giggling.
“I want to!” Amber and Rae started singing at the top of their lungs, grinding on each other; Rae held Amber by her hips and made a very suggestive motion with her own hips. The guys cat called and laughed some more.
For the rest of the song, Tony, along with the rest of the crowd, watched his girlfriend, Rae make out with Amber. They were best friends since sixth grade and could trust each other to know that it was just for fun. There was no sexual attraction between the two girls, and thank goodness that Tony understood that.
“Am I interrupting?” a amused voice cut through the air. Everyone looked to see who was in the shadows.
“Fucking Hell Luke!” Amber finally yelled. “Don’t do that!”
Luke smiled and took Amber’s hand, wrapping his arm around her and lead her away from everyone else. Amber waved to her friends and followed Luke to her bedroom. She needed to let out some frustration and stress and Luke was just the one to help her.
