Inconsistances

Forever In Darkness- Demise

Chapter Two- Inconsistances

Reevve De La Cord was a strange man on many levels. He had a short temper that everyone he knew had been on the receiving end of and was prone to sulking, he was intelligent and cunning, but short sighted and unfocused at the same time. He was a man that had lived a long time, done nothing of any note with said time, and had no goals for his future, immediate or otherwise. Tall and lithe with sharp steel blue eyes and shimmering silver hair, he was as striking in appearance as he was in personality, and he could likely get anything-or one-he wanted if he tried hard enough. Living a life of moderate luxury, there was little he actually wanted for though, so he rarely had to manipulate people into doing his bidding.

Reevve lived in a two story house that was pushing a century in age, but was decorated and refurbished in a modern style. The first floor of the fine Victorian home consisted of a small but cozy entry hall that connected to the main hallway and stairwell, a small living room-more of a den then a actual community room-a marble kitchen, a tiny study room, and a laundry room. The upstairs of the house had five bedrooms, one large master bedroom and four smaller but still comfortably large ones, all with their own small bathrooms. The second floor also sported a small study, only a few feet bigger then the downstairs one, which was connected to the master bedroom. The house also had a garage attached to the first floor, clearly an add on since there was little need for a eight car garage a hundred years ago.

Reevve was sitting in the den, reading a newspaper with his feet up on a small glass coffee table. His feet were crossed at the ankle, one atop the other, while a mug half full of viscous fluid sat on the table beside them. The electric fireplace on the far left wall and a plasma tv in the left corner were the only source of light in the room-in the entire house really. Reevve had woken just past eight o'clock to find the house completely empty, and hadn't bothered to turn on any lights. He was perfectly capable of seeing in the dark, and all he had planned for the evening was reading a paper and watching T.V, maybe going to a bar for a short while if the other two members of his house hold didn't show up. It wasn't to unusual for Reevve to be left alone by his Sire for a few days, and the other member of the trio was sometimes out from dusk to dawn.

Shuffling the papers, Reevve glanced up at the TV. It was on mute, seeing as the show currently playing on the screen wasn't one that the silvery haired male particularly enjoyed. He was currently taping a show for his lover, the other male of the house besides his Sire, seeing as he had nothing better to do. He was not doing it because Neo would appreciated it and be thankful, it was just to avoid listening to the much older male whine all day.

Speak of the devil and they will appear-just after checking to see if the show was almost over, Reevve heard a familiar sound in the distance. A motorcycle was turning down a street a block over, audible from such a distance seeing as few cars were out this time of night, and because Reevve had exceptionally good hearing. In less then five minutes, a pair of headlights flashed by the bay window of the den, and the bike pulled into the yard. Stretching languidly on the couch, Reevve removed his bare feet from the coffee table and took up his mug to finish off its contents. Setting down the newspaper, Reevve turned his gaze in the direction of the side entrance to the den, keeping the empty mug in a loose grip.

The sound of the front door opening and closing, accompanied by muttered words that were clearly cusses though in what language Reevve didn't know, announced the formal arrival of Neo into the house.

"Why're all the bloody lights out?" Neo's melodic voice queried as he stepped into the archway of the den, eyes glimmering in the dimly lit room. Reevve knew that Neo had shoddy night vision, something the male found surprising as most supernaturals had near perfect night vision, so having lights out through out the whole house was something that ticked off the blond.

"They were out when I got up, and I wasn't expecting you back so soon." Reevve drawled out, shuttering his eyes as he concentrated on the light switch on the wall near where Neo stood. There was a soft click of success and the room was flooded with near florescent white light. He had been practicing with his telekineses of late, an ability he had had for over three centuries but had never taken time to perfect, and enjoyed showing it off.

"Hey, is that Law and Order?" Neo made no comment about the sudden light, simply blinked the glow from his eyes and moved towards his favorite spot in the room, a large leather couch just beneath the bay window. Just over a year or so ago, there had been a window seat in the couches place, but it had been destroyed and replace with the couch. Personally, Reevve preferred to sit in one of the two lazy boys, since they were closer to the coffee table and the TV.

"It's pretty much over, just three minutes left." Reevve commented, watching the TV screen for a brief moment. "Its been taped, though I didn't pause for commercials." Reevve added, standing form the couch and headed out of the room towards the kitchen.

"Is Odin home yet?" Neo asked, searching for the TV remote and hitting rewind once finding it. Reevve replied in the negative, and heard Neo cuss once more.

"Why do you ask?" Reevve dropped his dirty cup in the kitchen sink and filled it with water.

"Wanted to know if he had any clue what his kin are so flipped out about today."

Reevve scowled at the response, shoving one of the swinging doors of the kitchen open to glance back into the den. "What are you talking about?" He asked in mild confusion. Neo and Cypuro, Reevve's Sire, rarely talked or interacted, and it was odd for the Fae to wish to talk to the Rat-Vampire hybrid. Plus, Reevve didn't know what Neo meant by Cypuro's kin being angry-had the Fae stopped by one of the World Slider bars and angered a Rat?

Neo hummed, a noise that made Reevve's ear drums pop and his brain hurt. "Well, I was at Nenan's place around midnight, and it was not only closed, but everyone was a bit tense. Probably would have given me a brain tumor if I had tried to read their emotions." The last part was said in a thoughtful tone of voice, and Reevve could see Neo struggle to keep his thoughts on topic-over the time he had known Neo he had discovered that the fae was extremely flighty and got off topic very easily.

"Probably just some sort of clan troubles, death of a member or a mutt wandering into town." Reevve said in a dismissive tone, turning back to the kitchen and shutting off the water from the sink. "Cypuro wouldn't have any clue about the details, Nenan doesn't keep him informed unless my Sire out right asks for information."

Being a hybrid, Cypuro wasn't allowed to be in the local Rat clan-mutts were usually killed at birth-and while the much older male was an influential member of the Manhattan Vampire coven, he wasn't under its control or protection. Really, outside of Reevve, his two Blood Sisters and their Childes, Cypuro had no real coven or clan.

"Maybe, but that doesn't explain why the Harlem vamps are all moody blue too. I was three sharp words away from Iron Poisoning tonight." Neo stated, hitting stop on the remote once the tv show had reached its beginning.

Reevve snorted. "Sorry to be rude, Neo, but you are always three words away from an Iron bullet." He pointed out in amusement.

Neo rolled his eyes. "Still, thats not my point. I just wanted to know why everyone is in foul moods." He let out a small sigh before started the tape.

Reevve said nothing, he was pretty sure Neo would be to busy watching his show to listen anyways, simply set the now clean mug on the kitchen counter and headed toward the stair case. He wanted to get changed into more club type clothes before heading out for then evening. Nenan's bar was obviously closed, but Reevve preferred human bars anyways. With Neo caught up in TV, Reevve wanted something to do for the last few hours of the night.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Being a Saturday night, there were plenty of crowded and open bars for Reevve to choose to haunt, but he decided to go to the one nearest his home instead of searching out a more livelier group. He wasn't giving Neo's statements on the supernatural communities behavior much thought, but he would rather stick close to home rather then risk bumping into moody people. Unfortunately, it meant he'd not be able to garner a warm meal off anyone, as his Sire frowned upon feeding off people that lived near to their home.
The bar was a small affair, but it was busy enough and had some half decent band playing rather than some crap rock cds. When the silvery haired male thought about it, one of the band members, a lanky woman with bright pink hair, looked vaguely fimillar. He didn't give her much thought, women were nice and all but not worth it when he had someone back home that was willing and not nearly as breakable.
Reevve sat down at the bar counter, instead of one of the tables-which were mostly all full as it was- and ordered a bottle of tequila and a shot glass. Most people went to bars to dance or socialize, but Reevve went to either find someone to follow home, or to just be in a place where there was nothing to think about or any supernatural problems. Today it was merely to stretch his legs and get away from the monotony of his daily life.
After drinking for a short while, mainly to get a feel for the bands music, Reevve slipped out of his bar stool to take to the dancer floor for a sort while. He wasn't a bigger dancing type, but it as a vampire, the feel of living bodies moving around him was comforting and exilerating. It also help him slip out of his mind and into the music, leaving any thoughts or worries he had back at the bar counter with his tequila. He wasn't really running from anything that night, things were going alright in his usually active world, but it was nice to unwind anyways. Before he knew it, around an hour had passed, and the silver haired male returned to his stool, running a black gloved hand through his bangs, which had come out of a loose braid he had been sporting.
Reevve ordered a new drink, this time a glass of rum, and was slightly disappointed when the band stopped playing and the stereo system kicked in with some of the new age rap music that was becoming far to popular these days. He was finishing the drink off when he felt a strange prickling along his spine, not quite a chill, but just as unsettling. Resisting the urge to spin around and look for the source of the sensation, he slowly turned half way on the stool and scanned the crowd out of the corner of his eye. Nobody was looking at him, though, and he didn't sense anything else even when he sent out a wave of his power through the room in search of anything that felt off.
“Your getting paranoid in your old age...” Reevve muttered to himself, setting down the shot glass on the counter. Maybe Neo had gotten to him earlier, but he just could help but shake the feeling of being watched, even if he couldn't see or sense anything when looking. It was time to call it a night, the immortal figured, digging out his wallet to pay the bartender. He had to get out of the club before the strange closed in feeling made him twitchier.
Outside the bar was thankfully free of anything out of the ordinary, and the silvery haired male relaxed. He probably needed the fresh air after being surrounded by so many humans-he'd not had warm blood in awhile, and the club had probably stirred subconscious urges to hunt. Shaking his head to himself, Reevve started down the street. He'd chosen to walk to the bar earlier, since it was only a few blocks away from his house, and as such he'd have a fair amount of time to cool off before getting home.
He was turning onto his street when the prickling feeling returned tenfold, cold ice water rushing down his back and in his head. This time he did jerk around, spinning in a circle to see what had caused it-any supernatural knew that chills usually were a sign of some kind of preternatural being, and not just something random. As he was coming back to his original position, a swath of black shadows crawled over the side of a garage and between two homes. Eyes narrowed, Reevve left the sidewalk and moved slowly but smoothly across the lawn towards the side of the garage. He was well aware of curiosity being deadly, but whatever was back there wasn't friendly and he didn't think he wanted it on his turf.
The thick, metallic smell of blood struck him a few yards away from the natural shadows cast by the building, causing his nostrils to flare and his pupils to contract in to cat like slits. His eyes scanned the darkness but spotted nothing even with his night vision. Whatever was bleeding was back behind the garage now. Stopping at the edge of the shadows, Reevve paused-the shadows had moved earlier, and he wasn't sure if it was smart to go trapiesing through it, even if the presence had seemed to move on when he'd seen it. Stealing himself, Reevve moved into the darkness, almost tripping on to slick grass at first. He didn't need to look down to tell the yard by the wall was stained red. It was clear by the smells and slight tackiness to the wet footing.
He was expecting a body, when he stepped around the building. With blood thick in the air and the earlier dark feelings, there was nothing else to expect. He had not thought he'd recognize the body, though-had not thought it would be someone he'd only just seen.
Spreed across the ground was the young woman from the bar, the one he'd found fimillar. While he still could place her in his mind, knew she didn't live on the street, and was shocked to see her. The attacker had to have led her here, and only a few steps ahead of Reevve himself.
Pink hair darkened to near black due to the dark of night and the stain of her own blood, the girl looked like a puppet that had had its strings cut, her arms and legs bent out at horribly wrong angles. What made it worse, was that with his keen senses, Reevve could see her body twitch and hear her gurgle as she disparately tried to suck in breaths through a fluid filled mouth.
Rule number one in the supernatural world-do not kill. While it pertained mostly to the mundane immortals like vampires and were-creatures and less so to fae and demons, it was still widely known that one didn't leave bodies laying around. Rule number one in Reevve's Sire's law books was no fighting or feeding on locals let alone killing near the home. It was for that reason the Reevve found himself moving to the girls side and searching his pockets for his cell phone. He couldn't leave her here to die, or he'd be in deep trouble.
As he hit the speed dial for Cypuro's cell he looked the girl over more closely, sniffing the air for any sign of what had attacked her. Her body had been crushed and her chest scored open by what appeared to be claws. Reevve had seen similar signs on people in the past, and a grim thought coursed through his mind. He'd be willing to bet his life that a Worldslider or Shifter had done this, and seeing as the most common form of shifter in the entire city was Rat Worldsliders, he was pretty certain one of his sire's kin had done this. The only problem with that was, Rat's didn't work alone, and were in tenient agreement with vampires to never kill on their lands.
The last time something like this had happened, had been during the last of the eight Shifter-Vampire Wars.
Finally finished this chapter. Damn, I hate how it ends, didn't come out the way I wanted, but it was annoying me so I gave up on the fifth rewrite.
Reviews loved, they make me work faster, as said and black maily as it is...
