Jael sat in the sun Teo` by her side as he had been since she awoke.

“You do not have to stay with me. I know that you would rather be training with the others” she smiled at him and stroked his hair, he looked at her and he shook his head.

“I’m staying here”

“Teo` it wasn’t your fault you know” “please don’t feel guilty”

“No, you almost died!”

“That was my own stupidity!” she squeezed his hands and her voice softened “Not you fault beloved”

Teo` turned to her and drew her closer to him. “No, no matter who’s fault it was or wasn’t, I’ll stay by your side” he lent down to kiss her and just before their lips met a tiny girl ran up and threw her arms around Jael’s legs causing her to jump backwards in surprise.

“Leaithe”

“Daa-el” “I bring you flower” she smiled happily and Jael lifted her into her lap before reaching to accept the pale white blossom. She failed to grasp the flower and both girls grabbed desperately at the blossom as the breeze swept it from their reach.

Jael tasselled Leith’s jet black hair “not to worry little one, it was still a very pretty flower”

She squeezed her eyes shut and tilted her head towards Leith who laughed. The flower still caught by the wind drifted along for a few seconds before it came to rest in a puddle and was walked into the mud by the boots of the approaching war chiefs.

“Jael”

Jael turned to them, intimidated by their size and stance

“Yes?” She stood swinging Leith onto her hip.

“What is this about?” Teo` stood protectively before her.

“We have decided to teach this little lady how to protect herself Teo`, if she has to rely on you she’ll never make it to tomorrow”. Jael giggled at the enraged look on Teo`s face. Then she lowered Leith to the ground.

“Go play honey.” Leith looked sideways at Jael and Jael gave her a gentle push she took a few steps then turned to watch over Jael.

“I can not learn to fight I have been forbidden”

“True,” he gave her a cocky grin, “but we have decided to wave that decision aside”

“NO. I gave my word” Jael turned her back on them and began to trail after Leith who ran before her laughing leaving the chieftains and Teo` staring after her stunned.

The moon dappled the ground by the statue and shining down on Jael and Teo` sitting beneath it. Teo` ran his hand over the last remaining wound on Jael’s arm.

“Are you ok now?”

“I keep telling you so beloved”

Teo` smiled at her and tilted his face to hers. When they parted he smiled down at her.

“Well you kiss like you’re better”

“Do I now?” Jael smiled mischievously “I think that we should make sure” she leaned in to kiss him again

“Yeah” “Wait…. I have something for you” he fished into his pocket and drew something out shielding it so Jael couldn’t see.

“Well, what is it?” Jael attempted to pull his arm out of the way.

“How much do you love me?”

“That depends on whether of not you show me what is in your hand!” she laughed pulling his hand down to her lap.

He turned his hand over to reveal a necklace, the twisted vines that formed the chain wove around each other and shimmering flowers shone from them. Then a shimmering drop fell onto the silver metal, then another and another.

“Jael, you’re crying!” “What’s wrong?”

“Teo` it’s beautiful” she laughed and through her arms around his neck “I love it”

She took his head in her hands “And I love you”

She kissed him gently. “Put it on for me”

He slid the slender chain around her neck smothering her neck with kisses as he linked up the clasp. She straightened up again as he pulled back, releasing her hair from its long braid. Then she nestled into his side.

“Thank you”

He kissed her forehead and smoothed her hair “You’re welcome”

“Jael. Will you answer me three questions?”

“Of course beloved” “Ask”

“What is life like on earth?”

“It was different for me”

“What do you mean?”

“I can’t tell you. You’ll think I’m silly”

Teo` lent down and kissed her cheek “I wont”

She bit her lip and nodded. “On earth, I was…um…I am, a princess”

“A princess?”

“Yeah. My family goes back thousands of years, we were a great family. We did great things, till my parents died and my half brother took over.

Marcus was always very idyllic. That colony” she spat thew word as if it were something truly vile. “The one in the dome. That was his solution to the overpopulation of earth. Dump the revolutionists on another planet. I disagreed and he decided that I should be killed for treason, I was I think, seven at that time.” She shook her head bitterly at Teo`s gasp.

“Earth revolted, I’d been in the public spotlight my whole life and they refused to believe it, it’s hard to imagine a seven-year-old child plotting world domination. So instead I had to sign a document that said I would always submit to my brothers plans for me, as he would know better of course. So since I was seven I have been my brothers doll, doing as I was told and never thinking or acting for myself. It wasn’t a life.

Then a few years ago a young solider name Nell was assigned to my guard. He taught me to fight and think and he loved me. No one had loved me for years…it was scary, but nice. Nice but I couldn’t love him. I barely trusted him. Then one day he told me that he had arrange for us to flee to the colony. He smuggled me onto a fighter that was scheduled to be dumped so we thought that no one would notice we were gone until we were far enough away. But Marcus knew. I don’t know how. To cut it short we were passing through the gravity region of this planet when one of my brother’s fighters arrived. It shot us down. Nell was hit badly and he bundled me into that pod that you found Teo`. And he sent me here to be free. I don’t want to go back”

She threw her self into Teo`s arms and buried her self into his chest. He put his arms around her and held her tightly in an attempt to stop her shaking. He didn’t know what else to do. After a few minutes her tears subsided.

“There were two other questions beloved” she smiled up at him, wiping tears from her eyes “Would you ask them”

“Ok “ “Why wont you learn the craft?”

“I WAS FORBIDDEN!” “Besides I’m NOT a Fae. IT ISN”T MY BIRTHRIGHT!”

“It could be”

“IT ISN’T THAT SIMPLE!” “God knows I’d like it to be” Jael lifted a hand to the shimmering necklace a horrible though striking her

“THIS DOESN”T MAKE A FAE TEO`.” She dropped her eyes and softened her voice. “Did you think it would?” she looked up into his face searching it tears flooding into her eyes.

“No I didn’t. I didn’t think it would make you a Fae it doesn’t need to Jael. I love you.”

She turned away

“I wasn’t hoping that it would make you a Fae honest” he tried to look her in the eyes again, but she quickly dropped her head shielding her eyes from view. He lost his temper and bit out a reply “ I WAS HOPPING IT WOULD MAKE YOU MY WIFE!!”

Jael drew a sharp breath and bit her lip tears streaming down her face and she dropped to the ground at his feet.

“NO Teo`, no…I’m not… I’m not good enough for you”

Teo` dropped to his knees before her “Jael, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked you like that!”

“You shouldn’t have asked me, what about…”

“Don’t you want to marry me?” hurt resonated in his voice.

“Oh god yes” she bit her lip. Teo` looked at her confused

“Then marry me Jael”

“I would but…” Jael bit her lip sobbing into the stones “No….” Jael got to her feet in one swift movement and ran towards the forest sobbing, Teo` sat on the stones, wondering how it had gone so wrong.

“Teo`!” Teo` looked up towards the voice Mira was standing before him she had followed the sound of Jael’s raised voice “Go after her idiot” Mira shook her head dimly at him.

“She wants you to chase her Moron.” When Teo` made no move she gestured towards the forest “That way”

Teo` looked at her and she smiled. Then he scrambled to his feet and ran after Jael into the night.

Jael ran head long into the lower branch of a tree she hadn’t seen in the dark. She made no effort to stand, she didn’t have the strength. Then she heard a noise before her.

“Teo`?”

“Not quite”

Jael slid back a little “who are you”

“We. Who are we” four black clad men with stitched eyes walked into the dim light allowing her to see their faces. “Oh god” “I’m trapped”

Jael turned and scrambled to her feet only to have three others block her retreat.

The leader smirked “I should say so”

Jael took a few uncertain steps backwards. And one of the larger goons wrapped himself around her Jael twisted and pulled away. Crying in pain as the thug squeezed tighter.

“Well, isn’t this amazing, a human. Living with Fae no less”

Jael flicked her head towards the voice “Dro”

“Indeed” the Dro reached out and examined her face and then slid his hands down her body

“Get off you leach”

“Tsk Tsk, name calling.” He carefully lifted her skirt and ran his hand up her leg his gloved hand against her skin

“What the hell do you think you are doing!” her voice forming into a shriek

“Examining the Fae whore. Why else would they keep you around? My my you are a beauty aren’t you? My men’s reports hardly do you justice.”

Jael was speechless.

The Dro dropped her skirt and began caressing her breast again. “What’s your price then?” he grinned evilly “I might have to see what kind of lady you are myself”

The assembled warriors laughed. It was a truly chilling sound.

“Get off me you creep!”

She spat into his face

“Funny” he snarled then punched her as hard as he could. Laughing as she screamed in terror and pain.
