Chapter 2

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kevin’s POV

Being here in Millennium High is pretty much like being in other high schools except that there are fewer students here and there are three additional subjects which are German, French and Spanish.

The thirty two of us which survived the mass expulsions are now struggling to make headway in studying those three foreign languages. Don’t worry; I won’t be plaguing you with foreign sentences.

Anyway, it was just a normal school day for me one Monday. RJ was told to go to detention for putting chalk on the teacher’s seat. English class and German class were as boring as ever. All of the teachers are straining us to review because the exams are going to begin next week!

I was pulled out during our Chemistry class and taken to the school paper adviser. She told me about the upcoming regional journalism contest and asked me if I wanted to join in the Editorial Writing event. Apparently, the elementary school paper adviser has told her that I wrote Editorials and then I was vouched for by my present English teacher who said that I wrote well! I said that I did want to join and so plans were made so that I would be excused from class from Wednesday to Friday!

After that, I went inside the classroom again and confided to my seatmate Ian what was in store for me come Wednesday. By the way, I always sit next to Ian because I can’t get enough of him. Hehehe. Actually, he’s just my crush but well, you know the details.

“Guess what! I’m going to be included in a journ contest this Wednesday!!” I told Ian excitedly.

“Whoa, you are really so fucking impressive!” Ian said, “I’m so proud of you!”

I laughed when he told the others about my contest, because he kept using the words “fucking impressive”!

It made me feel good that my crush considered me as “fucking impressive”. But I was also a little unsettled, you see, I haven’t written an editorial for three years! I don’t know if I still remember how to make one.

“Hey, hon?” Ian used the term we call to each other and waved his hand in front of my face, interrupting my thoughts about editorials, “I’m going to commute with you later alright?”

That came to me as a surprise, rich Ian’s family owned two vehicles and he rarely commutes because he and his siblings are picked up every afternoon by his mom and their driver. They actually have a driver! See how rich they are! And no, Ian’s mom and their driver don’t have an affair. It’s their driver and their lesbian housekeeper that is an item. Just kidding!

I always look forward to commuting with Ian because who wouldn’t want spending an extra hour with your crush!

Hours later, when we were outside the mall and heading for the bus stop, I can’t help myself from thinking that Ian probably doesn’t have any feelings toward me. Sure he goes along with the whole “hon” thing but he probably thinks that it’s all a joke. That we were only pretending to be an item but actually, for me it runs deeper than a stupid, friendly joke.

“Hey, you alright? You seem quiet” Ian grinned at me, “I’m not used to this you know. You’re usually noisy and flamboyant and rowdy…and horny! You usually push me to enter adult bookshops! But not today so is everything alright?”

I looked at him. Looked at the face I knew deep inside that I can never have. Stared into those eyes that looked away when I stared. I looked down at my feet as we walked. “Everything’s fine” I said quietly.

We got into a bus and I was lost in my thoughts about the two of us that Ian had to shake me to wake me from my daydreams.

“Hey you moron!” Ian said, laughing at me, “it’s your stop, hurry!”

So I stood up, didn’t say a word to him. Just stood up and left. But he grabbed my arm and said. “hey hon, take care.”

I disembarked.

Isn’t it funny that simple thoughts make you quiet?
Isn’t it funny that the reason I entered Millennium High actually calls me “hon” as a joke but I actually consider it as truth?

Isn’t it funny that however miserable I am because I know that we can never be together I still smile just because he said “take care”?

Isn’t that funny?
