Chapter Two
Calm
“Get away from me” the vampire told her, his voice sounding deadly. She did not move an inch.
‘What is wrong with this girl?’ the vampire questioned.
The vampire then reached out, grabbing her throat with both hands.
“Do you really wish to die so badly, little girl?” he asked her.
“If you had not killed me earlier, why would you know? Especially when I’m only trying to help you” Nauri spoke.
“Your kind does not help my kind” the vampire spat bitterly as he dug his blackened claws into her creamy skin. His eyes burned with anger.
“Now leave me be” he said as he let go of her throat and she fell on her backside.
Nauri quickly pulled away, running her fingers over the puncture wounds along her neck. The vampire continued to glare at her, his silver hair hanging in his face. She loosened her fingers from the rag and stood up. She stole one more look at the vampire before leaving. She shut the door, pressing her back to it. She gave a heavy sigh and looked to the ground.
When she looked up she saw her father studying her. His eyes pinned to the blood trickling along her neck.
“I told you not to get too close” Sheva scolded angrily. He reached up to touch her and she pulled away from his grasp.
“I am fine” she assured him and scurried off towards her brother’s room.
She lifted her hand, tapping lightly on the mahogany wood.
“Brother, let me in” Nauri called to him.
The door swung open and she walked inside. His room was decorated mostly in an earthy green, with some shades of yellow.
Acadi eyed her, a single eyebrow raised slightly.
“You went back didn’t you?” he questioned. She nodded, looking to the ground.
Acadi walked to her, gently lifting her chin. He eyed the marks on her neck wearily.
“You should have stayed away” he spoke softly. Nauri shook free of his grasp.
“I don’t think he’s as horrible as people make him out to be” she told him.
“He may look human but he is far more dangerous then that. Please do be careful sister” Acadi spoke to her with those large eyes of his. She couldn’t help but smile, ruffling his hair slightly.
“What do you think father is planning to do with him?” Nauri asked, taking a seat on Acadi’s bed.
“It’s none of our business. I’m sure papa has a good reason for capturing him though” her brother told her. She let out a small sigh, knowing that was the answer she was going to get.
Nauri stood up and walked to the door.
“I will take my leave of you” she said, showing little emotion.
“Please stay out of the dungeon” she heard Acadi speak as she closed his door. She had little intention of listening to him however.
Nauri walked to the back of the castle, exiting through a small wooden door. She smiled, the steam hitting her face. Once thing she did like about her father was how knew precisely where to place his castle. Not many people could say they had a natural hot springs in their back yard. It was outdoors, decorated with various typed of plants and trees. Off in the distance she could hear the howl of a wolf and the occasional cricket chirp.
She stripped off her clothes, wrapping the leaves in them. She then stepped into the warn water. She relaxed into the water, setting comfortably against one of the rocks. She stayed like this for awhile, thinking about the vampire. She stepped out of the water when she felt herself become slightly dizzy. She grabbed a long silk robe and wrapped it around her slender form.
A moment later a servant came out to greet her.
“My lady, is there anything I can get you?” the young girl asked.
Nauri nodded. “Please place a bowl of warn water inside the dungeon”
The girl quickly went into the castle, dutifully going about her task.
Nauri turned from the castle, going deeper into the garden. She stopped when she came to her personal garden. Surrounding it was a small wooden fence, green in color. She stepped into the garden and smiled. The plants were flourishing. There were not as many flowers in her garden as there was outside of it, and some of the plants she grew her father even called ugly. She knew otherwise. Every plant in her garden had a purpose, whether it be to sure a common cold or a deadly sickness.
She walked to the plant her father regarded as ugly and glanced at it. She didn’t understand how he could have called it ugly. She had used it to treat many of his men’s injuries. Even she had grown to love its appearance. It was a dull grayish green and intertwined itself in the various types of other plants. Its leaves were large and tear shaped, its vines thin and droopy. She picked a few of the leaves off, careful not to break the delicate stem. “Thank you” she spoke softly to the plant in appreciation. She turned to another plant, this one a brilliant green. She picked a few leaves from that plant aswell.
With what she had came for in hand, Nauri left her garden and started towards her room. Once inside she let the rope slip of her body, unto the floor. She then dressed in a black dress. It was tight at the top and then fanned out at the skirt. A green ribbon trailed up the front and tied into a bow. The lower half of the dress was covered with a green lace. She put on a pair of black stockings and ran a brush quickly through her hair. Nauri then grabbed a small woven bag, stuffing the leaves she had gathered inside. She exited her room and started off towards the dungeon yet again.
When she arrived outside of the heavy door she opened it slowly and peeked inside. She spotted a large bowl and smiled. She was also happy to see no guards around. Her emerald eyes fell upon the vampire and was surprised to find him sleeping soundly.
She took a seat at a table silently and pulled two small bowls from her bag along with a smooth stone. She first took out the bright leaves and pulled them apart with her fingers. A pleasant scent filled the room. It was a much needed change from the smell of rotting flesh. That was not the only reason she chose to bring this plant. It had a calming effect, and she figured that it was necessary if she was going to cleanse the vampire’s wounds without him slicing her to peaces. Once the leaves had been shredded into tiny peaces she set the bowl aside. The leaves had become sticky and the pleasant odor was even stronger.
Absentmindedly, Nauri wiped her fingers along the sides of her dress leaving green smears which were hardly visible. She did the same for the grey green leaves in the second bowl, only this time she brought the rock against the small pieces turning it into a thick paste. Once she was finished she turned looking back to the vampire, the stone still in her hand. He was still asleep and she eyed his uncovered chest.
‘How I would like to run my finger’s over him’ she though to herself. She immediately scolded herself for thinking such things. A princess was not supposed to think such impure thoughts. Forgetting the stone was still in hand, she loosened her fingers and it fell with a small clank to the hard floor.
The vampire’s frosty colored eyes shot open.
“Have you calmed down any?” she asked as she stood from the table. She received a small growl.
“I suppose not” she answered for him and scooped up a handful of the sticky crumpled leaves. She then walked strait up to him, placing her hand to his chest. She smeared the green substance around his collarbone. She knew it would work. It was a very strong plant, rarely used. The anger in the vampire’s eyes faded and he let out a heavy breath.
“What the hell are you doing?” he questioned, though seemed pretty calm.
“The herb simply put you at ease. It’s from a Hirasomo plant” she informed him. He closed his eyes partly but still watched her. She picked the rag and bowl of the floor and set it by the vampire.
Nauri looked up at him, dipping the rag into the water.
‘He’s going to bite my head of for sure’ she though to herself as she brought the rag to his chest. Water droplets dripped along his abdomen. He shifted away from her touched at first, but soon learned to deal with it. Once she had cleansed all the visible parts of his body she set the rag aside, it now stained a rusty color.
Nauri stepped away from him and walked to the table, picking up the bowl holding the greenish paste.
‘Well that went better then expected’ she told herself as she started back over to him.
“What is that?” he questioned, eyeing the substance coldly.
“It is ground Sivarian leaves. It will cleanse and make your body heal faster. It also has somewhat of a numbing effect, though I must admit, it is not the best smelling thing” she explained as she dipped her fingers into the salve and applied it to all his visible wounds. She wasn’t too worried about the rest. All that really mattered was that the Sivarian got into his blood stream.
“See that wasn’t so bad” Nauri commented with a small smile. The vampire said nothing. He seemed tired and she hoped she did not over do it with the Hirasomo.
‘This girl is so strange’ the vampire thought to himself.
She looked over as she heard the door open, followed by a snarl from the vampire. Nauri back away two steps, still well in the vampire’s reach if he were to grab for her. Two guards entered. They were laughing and seemed quite giddy. It was a moment before they noticed the princesses presence, but one they did they looked between her and the vampire.
“What have you done? Lord Sheva made it clear that no one was to treat his wounds,” one guard spoke.
“I will take it up with him personally if need be” Nauri spoke coldly as she exiting.
She couldn’t stand the guards. Their words were always slurred with the affects of alcohol and she felt they did little for the castle.
‘Well some do make nice ornaments for the horses’ she though sarcastically once outside of the door.

That night Nauri got very little sleep. She couldn’t figure out why her father felt the need to imprison the vampire. She thought back and realized that never had the vampire caused her castle any trouble until they went and tried to capture him.
‘People are so cruel,’ Nauri though to herself as she stepped out of her bed. She dressed and ran a brush through her hair. She dropped it when she heard a loud angry cry. It fell to the floor with a thud and she quickly rushed out of her room, towards the dungeon.
The sight she saw when she entered truly unnerved her. Her father stood holding the vampire by his bloodied hair, his sword in hand. The wounds she saw on the vampire’s body were more severe then any she had ever seen.
“Maybe you will choose to answer me next time,” Sheva poke through clenched teeth. The vampire seemed to smile. Lord Sheva let go of the vampire and he fell to the cold floor. Nauri quickly hid herself in the shadows and her father walked strait past her, anger written all over his face.
Once Nauri was sure he was gone she rushed to the vampire’s side. She carefully turned the vampire over and studied his wounds. There was a particularly deep one across his stomach that she was worried about. She ripped a piece of fabric from her dress and wrapped it around his waist, to stop the bleeding for the time being. He snarled, but remained unmoving.
“I will be back” she told him and frantically rushed out of the dungeon, towards her garden.
