Chapter One
Day in day out, nothing but the boring droll of everyday Broadway life for actors and actresses of the United States...if you called audition days normal. Some people got dressed up for it, but there were quite a few who didn't. There were many types of people there, all of whom wanted the same thing. A part in the musical. Most had their hearts set on the leads, of course, seeing as no one knew anything about this musical. It was kind of an odd audition, really, seeing as how it was going to be stone cold. No information had leaked out about said musical, and that was alarming. Usually information would leak out before auditions by word of mouth or by accident, but not this. But it really showed the weight of impressing the famous ones. Phil and his sister were legendary in Broadway, and both considered geniuses in their respective lines of work. And hell if this bullshit didn't take their toll on them; because it did.
There were people of all races, ages, body types, etc. there, all dying to start the auditions. Some were quiet and some were loud and some were stunningly obnoxious. And, there were small crowds of people who were talking together quietly (thankfully) discussing what they thought was going to happen. Each one had been given a button with a number on it,
"Ooh, oooh! I heard it was about the supernatural!" said one, a few clucking their tongues and giving her a look.
"Yeah, sure Lizzy, you think everything's got something to do with the supernatural." This voice was sarcastic in tone, and the statement was accomponied by a roll of brown eyes. The speaker was a woman, in her later twenties, maybe even early thirties, but could have fooled someone into thinking she was barely old enough to drink.
"Because it's true!" came the peppy voice again, a pout coming to adorable lips. This girl didn't look old enough to drink, and she wasn't. She was only eighteen and looked like one of the other ladies in the group. "Come on, Francie! Why else would they keep something under wraps?"
"Maybe they didn't want nosy little rumor diggers like you giving it bad publicity?" came the retort, a smirk plastering itself on the woman's face. Both ladies turned to look at the third member of their little group, a girl who they all defined as "the wall flower". Each of them made a face for a moment before sighing, she looking up at them, looking at the younger girl who dashed over to her and grabbed her arm, looking up at her with a big grin. "You agree with me, right Jestenna?"
"Uh...well, I guess it could be about the supernatural," she said in a nonchalant voice, shrugging lightly. Elizabeth, the younger, peppy one, always made her feel like she could be confident, which was why she had asked her to come with her to the audition. To give her that boost of confidence. A sigh, and she shrugged out of Lizzy's grip, giving a small laugh and smiling. "Good thing the boys auditioned earlier or else you'd be hanging all over them,"
"Boooo! I would not!"
"Oh yes you would," came Jestenna's reply, she giving a sigh as she tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. She was a pretty creature, one to be looked at. Dark waves of brown hair stretched down her back normally, though today it was done in a messy bun, and the look accented the dark sapphire orbs that had been looking around at all the other auditions going on. She had already gone through hers, and she was certain that she didn't get it. They were waiting around for Lizzy to finish up whatever it is she had actually been doing here (other than being moral support), and all three were starting to get hungry. So, after another hour or so of chitchat, the trio finally left, dropping their buttons off in a bin labeled "BUTTON RETURN", and walked out of the large auditorium, each exhausted by this point.
When they got to the outside, each said their goodbyes, hugged, and went their seperate ways, all knowing that they'd be calling the second they got a call from the director.
Jestenna, in a knee length leather coat, a light blue sweater, a pair of faded blue jeans, and black and white converse (sort of old looking by now), shoved her hands in her coat pockets, shivering lightly in the October air. It was starting to get cold, and she just wanted to get home to her dog Fang, sit, do some case work (not so much), and have a nice cup of hot chocolate. These thoughts started to distract her as she imagined them, not even noticing as she passed by two dark figures in the alley, and a murder that would end up becoming her next big case...
...and the start of the biggest adventure of her life time.
Author's end note: ^^; To anyone who was actually waiting for this, I'm sorry it took so long! But, huzzah for chapter one!
