The First Confrontation

The door creaked open, and a shadowy figure stepped into the room. Looking around, there was a gleam of red eyes on the wall. The gleam caught Sheri in its light, and the light froze, highlighting her face. The figure crept towards her slowly, a dagger ringing softly as it was drawn. But just as the figure was about to plunge the dagger into her bared breast, another shadowy figure stepped from the very darkness itself. “And just what do you think you are doing?” came a hissing voice by the first shadow’s shoulder, as they were hauled back toward the open door, unable to make a sound.

Once outside, Kintaru shoved the intruder into the light of a nearby streetlamp, immediately recognizing the insignia on her cloak as that of House Nadanya. Eramis’ house. “Why are you here? What is your purpose?” He growled, his fangs funneling out to points, ready to rip out her jugular at the slightest wrong move.

She grinned. “Making sure that House Morzan will lose their place among the council. If you have no ‘chosen one’ to present, then you will be made to look a fool in front of the whole council. They will surely destroy House Morzan then. And House Nadanya has nothing to worry about from House Collins.” She grinned. “And even if I fail, another will come to do what I could not.”

Kintaru grinned sadistically. “Not if I get House Nadanya destroyed for disobeying the Kindred Lord’s orders,” he said with a malicious smirk. “And trust me. I can pull enough strings to have it done.” He growled, glancing at the sky. “And again, my plans are thwarted. I’ll have to take you before Lord Marius. He’ll deal with you, and see to it that no other house dares disobey his orders.” Waving a hand, he shut the door to Sheri’s house, locking it with a thought, and implanting an idea in her head for when she finally woke up from her drinking binge. With that, he gave a satisfied nod, grabbed the Nadanya vampyre by the back of the neck, pinching the main nerve so that she couldn’t move, and shadow-walked into Marius’s audience chamber.

The majordomo in the audience chamber looked up in surprise. “Prince Kintaru! I wasn’t expecting you this eve--”

Kintaru waved his free hand, silencing the majordomo. “I’ve just caught this one disobeying Lord Marius’s orders and jeopardizing the Masquerade. I need to speak to him immediately,” he said, his tone brooking no disagreement.

The majordomo bowed, and nodded his head. “One moment, Prince Kintaru. I will inform him that you wish to speak to him.” Turning, he pushed open a door, walked in, and closed the door behind him. Kintaru pushed his captive into a chair, and stood in front of her, daring her to challenge an elder Vampyre. She just grinned up at him.

“You seriously think that Lord Marius is going to do anything about this? We’ve got House Draconis wrapped around our fingers. He won’t do anything to me, or to House Nadanya.”

Kintaru just grinned, and waited. They would see who the true master of the Vampyre was here in a few seconds.

Marius came out in a very pissed off mood, his eyes blood red as he looked between Kintaru and the Nadanya. “What is the meaning of all this?” he questioned between bared fangs, glaring at the Nadanya.

“My lord, I found this one violating an order that you gave by attempting to assassinate the one that I believe to be the key. I believe that two months ago you said that no one was to interfere with my plans. This one snuck into her house with every intention of killing her, and, from her own mouth, getting House Morzan wiped off the face of the earth.” He tossed the female onto the floor in front of Marius’s feet. “AND she said that House Draconis was in the figurative pocket of House Nadanya.” He smirked. “I didn’t believe a word of it, my lord. Anyone with any brains would know that House Draconis is not purchasable.”

Marius strode forward, his foot resting where her hand had just been a moment before. “You said WHAT about my House? Tell the truth, because I shall know if you are lying.” He stood over her, his fingernails rippling down into claws as he did so.

She cowered slightly, having only seen him in such a rage once. “I… yes, My Lord… that is what I said. And I hope that you will forgive me. I was merely trying to discourage him--”

“WRONG ANSWER!” Marius bellowed, the be-clawed hand sweeping down, severing her head cleanly. He growled at the majordomo. “Have this cleaned up. Congratulations, Kintaru. You’ve just been promoted to Prince of the Second House. Or rather, your House has been promoted to Second.” Glancing over at the hunters along the wall, he nodded. “Wipe out House Nadanya. Leave none breathing. I want the head of Eramis in my display case by DAWN!! MOVE!”

Kintaru braced for the spurt of blood that came from the severed neck, and so didn’t suffer hunger pangs. Because of his observation of Sheri, he had been neglecting his feeding for the past few days. That was okay. He still had one or two maids in his mansion that he hadn’t turned yet. “Sorry to bother you so late, Marius. But that was something that had to be dealt with imme--”

There was the swish of a blade outside the door to the rest of the house, and the door burst open, a headless body toppling into the room, the head rolling to a stop at Marius’s feet. It was Eramis. “Ah. Good then. Place it in my collection, Domitian.” He turned back to Kintaru. “Don’t worry about it, my son. I understand completely.”

Kintaru nodded. “If you will excuse me, my sire, I must feed. I have been… a bit lax in the past few days. So if you will pardon me for rushing off?”

Marius nodded. “Go. I don’t want to have to deal with another one of your accidental Embraces.” He smiled, and shook his head. Kintaru always got like this when he was onto something. And this time… well, he had a feeling that it would be even more extreme than normal because of how certain Kintaru was that she was the one. She… That was going to cause some problems with the council.

Sheri woke up, and the first thing she realized was that she had a massive hangover. The second thing she realized was that she REALLY didn’t want to go anywhere today. But getting off the couch, she shivered a bit, and so went to turn the thermostat up. Weird, that it would be so cold in August. She shrugged it off, and turned on the TV, flipping it over to the soap opera channel. Slipping out of her pants, she shucked off her panties as well, revealing a light brown snatch of hair just above her sex. Walking into her bedroom, she picked up a silk, nearly see-through bathrobe, and pulled her arms through the sleeves, but left it open. As she was heading back down the hallway to the living room, she got the distinct feeling that she was being watched. But she shrugged it off, and went to watch soap operas all day.

When she shucked out of her clothing, a roaring monster awakened in Kintaru’s chest, and he had to take a moment to low his breathing. DAMN, she was GORGEOUS! From her 36B breasts all the way down her perfectly toned body to her adorable little snatch of hair…

He shook his head. He had to get his mind off that. He was here for a very specific reason. Cranking up his Kindred aura, he warded off any other assassins that might get any bright ideas for getting the Morzan House wiped out.
