Vox the Fox
Chapter Two Twisted Views
The black snout pushed further into his sheltered world, sniffing at him. Vox backed up, fluffed out and snarling. Then the nose was gone. Now there was a demon head, a fox demons head.
Con, the male that had decided he was going to stay with him for the night, was cuddled beside him. He was older than him, and he could shape-shift which was a rare talent that only came to those who have been trained for many years. Con was tall, and smart. A cunning, almost scary, grin lit his face almost constantly. When it was not contorted in laughter, which flowed like an endless spring, or pain. When in his fox form he was beautiful, his black ears tipped with white and always alert and his furred body tense with strong muscles. However, when he was in human form, Vox could not come up with words to describe his beauty. His golden eyes were graced with an enhancing scar that ran from his forehead to his upper cheek, his hair a sleek combination of dark reds to the blackest of blacks. His skin was medium coloured, not pale and not overly tanned, but just right.
When he was around the other male, Vox, could not help but notice the limpness of his tail compared to the other, his lack of muscles, his lack of pigment, and several other things.
Why he had allowed the other into his den was a mystery, and his sleep muddled brain was not willing to work hard enough to figure it out. Maybe it was because of that hypnotizing smell, sweeter than fresh daisies. Or how the heated body beside him acted as a fire, spreading warmth through his complaining joints. Or maybe it was the feeling of . . . of not being alone. He had suffered most of his life alone.
Birds chirped in the top of his pine tree, his companion sighed heavily beside him. A squirrel crunched on a nut outside. Vox’s ears followed every sound, his eyes still closed tightly. Another shuttered breath from Con and the older male snuggled closer, his body still burning.
Vox woke once again to the sound of Con fiddling about nearby. Hunger ripped through his body and made a loud growling noise. That now familiar snout entered his space and sniffed. Then Con entered, concern in his eyes.
“What’s wrong?” He asked.
“I am just hungry,” Vox answered before rolling around so he no longer faced the other demon.
“I am too, maybe I should go get some breakfast for us?”
“That sounds nice.”

It turned out ‘I should go get something to eat’ meant we should go get something to eat because now Vox was limping behind Con as he sniffed the air.
“Do you smell that heavenly scent?” Con asked as he licked his lips.
Vox raised his nose and took in a deep scent. It was the smell of a freshly killed carcass. It must have been a mule deer. However he could also smell wolves, a scent he was not sure about. Before he could object, Con was already sneaking his way toward it.
“Ok, the plan is simple. Seeing how I can run faster than you, because of your injuries, I will distract the wolves and you can take as much meat as you can.” Con whispered as they ducked in the bushes, they were not yet noticed. “They cannot smell us here so this is where you will hide until they’re gone. After you are finished, and remember not to take to much meat, go back to the den and I will come to you. Whatever you do, do not come looking for me.”
The wolves had their head buried deep in the deer’s gut when Con dashed off. He crawled to the carcass, the wolf noses to preoccupied to notice him, and tore a piece of. This got the wolves attention and they lifted their blood soaked noses to him, sniffing and then growling. Con smirked and began running, being followed closely.
As soon as they where all gone Vox snuck cautiously up to the meat and tore a piece off. Always sniffing, hearing, and watching. Nothing happened and he continued, losing himself in his work. Well, until he heard that growl behind him.
A black and white wolf was behind him, it had its dog like ears perched high. One was missing, it’s eyes a burning cold grey. Sharp teeth were exposed to him.
Vox backed up, not having even half of what he could have and ran. The wolf chased him, but only until he was out of sight. Then it returned to fill its malnourished body. When at the den he waited for Con.
Now it was getting dark out and there still was no sign of Con. Vox had nursed his wounds, scouted out his territory, and paced around it hundreds of times already. Until he gave in and did exactly what Con had told him not to do, he went looking for him.
Authors Note- Did you like? I hope you did. This was just a short chapter but whatever. One note I would like to make before you click either the ‘next chapter’ or ‘back’ button is that in the first chapter I said that Vox was one year old. In fox demon years that is about fifteen. Sorry if I confused you in any way, I meant to say that in the last chapter at the end but I guess I forgot.
