Chapter 2: Cold Stone Ice Cream Mixed With Some Kisses, Please
Title: The Course of True Love Never Did Run Smoothly
Summary: Meet Joshua, the perfect angel. Literally. He’s in love with his best friend. But, she only has eyes for Derek, the new student. And Derek, only has eyes for the little angel. A love story between an Angel and a Demon. (Warnings by Chapter)
Disclaimer: All of the characters in this chapter belong to me and my friend, any resemblance to any real people, places, or happenings are by chance. So don’t sue me so I can keep writing.
Cautions: Some fluff is nicely placed in here, a small kiss scene in here. Nothing to be too worried about.
Authors Notes: This chapter was all about Ice Cream and teasing. Oh the teasing. Derek tends to flirt… a lot. Well, in the beginning chapters anyways. And of course, Joshua is just the innocent one. I really like Ice Cream, so I was happy to add in a few of my favorite Ice Cream flavors and dislikes.
Chapter 2: Cold Stone Ice Cream Mixed With Some Kisses, Please
Not saying a word, he left the school campus, the other young boy following after him. After about five minutes, they walked to a store, a favorite store of Derek's. Cold Stone Ice Cream. Derek walked over to the door and held it open for the other boy.
"Cold Stone?" Joshua said half to himself as he saw the sign. He stepped into the chilly ice cream parlor, having left his uniform's jacket in the class room. He shivered slightly, rubbing his right arm with his left hand.
After entering the Ice cream shop, he walked over to the empty line. "Pick anything you want. And I mean anything." He murmured.
Joshua raised an eyebrow and walked up to the counter. "What if I want a cheeseburger?" he joked. Afraid of his response, he turned to the cashier and told her his order- a small French vanilla ice cream with Reese’s' Peanut Butter cups and Twix mixed in it.
The woman began making it, without any hassle. Derek meanwhile was trying to hide his laughter. "You know, you’re probably the first person to ever ask for a cheeseburger at an Ice cream store."
"Nah. I bet there's at least one other person who has..." he muttered, not looking at him as he said it. "Wait." he turned and looked Derek in the eye. "Your not paying for this, are you? Because...I can pay for myself..." he muttered. "Aren't you getting something?"
"I'll tell you after I order mine. Uh yes, I'll take a medium cheesecake ice cream with marshmallows only." The woman nodded as she got to work, the first ice cream already done. “You going to take your ice cream?"
Joshua kept a raised brow, his eyes staying on Derek as he took his ice cream. He looked down Derek's build, not having noticed before why Amber was attracted to him. He was very handsome, as Amber had said. He had a cunning cocky personality that made Joshua feel vulnerable too.
Derek smiled as he saw Joshua take the ice cream. "See that wasn't so bad, now was it?" He said with a charming smile as he ruffled his black hair to get it out of his face. Picking up his ice cream, he took a bite of it. "Delicious every time I come here..."
Joshua kept his eyes on him as he remained silent, licking his spoon clean of ice cream.
Walking next to the cash register, he asked for the total. "8. 32? Alright...” Digging through his pockets he pulled out a 10. "Keep the change." He told the woman with a wink, who in response blushed a dark red. After taking another bite, he wrapped an arm around Joshua. "So, anywhere you want to go?"
Joshua gaped at him with a wide mouth. "I said I'd pay for my own ice cream!" he cried out.
"Does that mean you don't want to go anywhere?" Derek asked as he took a long lick of his ice cream. "Want some?" He offered as he held it in Joshua's licking range.
Joshua stared at him for a moment, not able to take him serious. He sighed and leaned forward, licking his ice cream. "Ugh... how can you eat that?" He asked, making a disgusted face as he went and licked his own ice cream.
Derek scowled as he took a lick of his own ice cream again. "Well its way better then that crap you’re eating." He teased with a small smile as he chewed on a marshmallow.
"No way, man. See for yourself..." He lifted his ice cream toward him, being a few inches shorter than Derek.
Looking at the ice cream, Derek shrugged. He began to lick the ice cream from the bottom to the top with a pink tongue. At the top of the ice cream, he used his tongue to twirl the tip around. After, he looked up in thought. "Hmm...Still taste like crap. Though not that bad." He thought aloud.
Joshua watched him do this, feeling very much attracted to him suddenly. He quickly looked away, putting his ice cream in Derek's hands. "Erm....thanks for the ice cream..." he muttered as he ran out of the building, running around the corner just in time as feathery soft white wings sprouted from his back, his silver locks turning pure white. He leaned against the alley's wall, sighing in relief at having narrowly dodged having his identity revealed. He looked down at his pants, ashamed at the bulge that tried to push its way out of his uniform's pants zipper.
Derek looked at the retreating form of Joshua. With a small shrug, Derek walked out of the ice cream building and walked to the edge of the sea which was right by. Sitting at a bench, he continued to eat his ice cream.
Joshua looked up, having realized that he had misjudged Derek. But...he couldn't face him again, could he? The guy was so handsome, he had sexually aroused him! He sighed as he flew up to the rooftop, standing at the edge and looking down the street, seeing Derek sitting on the beach eating his ice cream. Joshua sat on the edge of the building. He reached into the collar of his shirt and pulled out a small silver pendant necklace of a feather. He held it in his hand and closed his eyes tightly; whispering hoarsely a single word and then opening his eyes to find himself back to his normal form. He shrugged and jumped onto the fire escape, sliding down the ladders to the ground. He walked slowly over to the bench Derek sat at. "Hey...." he murmured.
"Hey there, wondered where you ran off to. Want your ice cream back?" He asked calmly, handing the boy the ice cream.
Joshua smirked and took it, taking a seat next to Derek. He sighed as he sat, still nervous that what had just happened could repeat itself very quickly.
Meanwhile, Amber sat at a table in the cafeteria, waiting for Derek to get back.
Derek continued to lick at his ice cream, his eyes focused on the waves of the ocean. "You feel better?" He asked gently yet calmly.
Joshua stared into his ice cream as it started slowly melting down his hand. "Yeah.....I'm fine..." he muttered.
"You don't sound like it." Derek murmured as he laid a hand over the back of Joshua's part of the bench. He turned to look at him, piercing him with his pitch black eyes. "What's wrong?"
Joshua looked at him, fear filling his eyes. "N...N-nothing...." he repeated.
"Tell me... I know you want to." Derek was somewhat shocked to see the look of fear in the others eyes. Why was he afraid of him?
Joshua straightened his back, facing Derek, his face inches from his. "Nothing." He repeated this once again, not able to bring himself to tell Derek that he was attracted to him.
Derek took a lick of his ice cream in front of Joshua, trying to decide what was wrong with the other. Not finding anything, he shrugged and turned to look at the waves again. "So where do you want to go next?"
Joshua looked at the waves and thought for a moment. "Wanna go miniature golfing?" he proposed.
After finishing off the last of his ice cream, he tossed it in the bin beside the bench. "Sure, I'm ready. You?"
Joshua licked the last of his ice cream, his hand having ice cream dribbling down it. He licked it off. "Yeah. Let's go." he stood.
"Hmm...So tell me, what is you relationship with that girl of yours?" He tried to start a conversation while walking to the Mini golf park.
"She just said she thought it'd be best if we stayed friends...I don’t know. I love her a lot but...she likes guys with money..." he muttered, a small white feather falling out of his hair.
Derek caught the feather with his hand, examining it.
Joshua continued walking, not realizing that Derek had stopped.
"Hey Joshua..." Derek mumbled, holding the feather between his pointer and his thumb up to the light.
"Yeah....?" Joshua muttered as he kept walking.
"You see this?" He asked as he still continued to look at the feather. "A snow white feather...you know how rare it is to find one around here?"
"Huh?" He muttered not having really listened.
Derek walked over to Joshua. "Look, a snow white feather!"
Joshua looked at it, still not paying attention. As his eyes gaze came to it, he jumped slightly. "What the h- Where'd you get that?!" he asked quickly.
"I don't know...It fell out of your hair..." He said, examining it again.
Joshua stared at it for a long time. Then he looked up at Derek, afraid that he'd found him out.
Closing his eyes, he gently kissed the feather. "It's beautiful. Don't you think? Something so pure and white..." He murmured gently.
Joshua watched him, not knowing what to say. He then suddenly took a step closer and kissed Derek softly.
Derek looked at Joshua shocked. Did he just get kissed by Joshua? Hell, I guess there was always a kiss on the first date.
Joshua pulled away, blushing red. "I...I...." He continued to stutter, still trying to figure out what the hell he had just done.
"Well, I never exactly thought my date believed in ‘kiss on the first date’ but hey, I'm always in." Derek said with a small smirk and a wink towards the other boy,
Joshua just stood there, blinking like he had been the one kissed. Ah well. At least that got the subject changed, he guessed.
Derek smiled as he put an arm around the younger boy, putting the feather behind one of Joshua's ears. "It suits you. Now, let's go play some golf!" Derek said while stepping ahead of the other and opening the entrance gate.
"Yeah..." Joshua muttered, still in shock. He had been saving his first kiss for Amber and here he was, giving it away to some GUY!
Amber sat at the lunch table thinking to herself, "Oooh! I bet he's getting me flowers right now! That's what's taking him so long!"
