The Hotel
A/N: Because I am evil I’m going to do what a few authors do and have a chapter ahead of postings so that if I ever get bad case of writer’s block I’ll have something for you to read. So I got Chapter 2 done the same day as 1.
Shout outs at the bottom, here’s Chapter 2:
CHAPTER TWO: The Hotel
Aenigth is far prettier than Earth is, by far. We have two moons, one tinted a light blue and the other brilliant red. They make unmatched shades of color over the palace walls.
I grew up within these walls, but not like some noble or anything, I wonder where you got that notion. No, I lived on the streets for a good ten years of my life. I’m turning thirteen in a few months. I grew up in a gang.
My people, or race as you’d put, are known as “the Palace Dwellers” but nothing else. Blatantly, we’re human, and there’s nothing all to special about us. I have messy dark brown hair and brown eyes like every other fucker and his mother, and there is nothing special about any of us.
The gang? We divided long ago, pay no notice to details. Anyway, a few weeks ago a nice manager asked me if I needed some work, and I was hired. I’d work 15 hour days for a place to live, food to eat, and a small trivial amount of spending money. Although most people refuse to hire anyone younger than sixteen, I was, and then…well, my life was turned upside down.
“Can’t move…” Tilyu yawned in the morning when I got out of bed, slipping on my shorts and shirt.
“Good thing you don’t have to,” I laughed. “You stay here for awhile. I need to go to work, but I’ll check in later, okay?” He smiled and curled back, apparently going back to sleep.
He’s cute. I’m small for my age, but Tilyu was even smaller. We came to the conclusion that we’re the same age, only he’s the only male of an all feminine race, and…my mother was just a small lady. Genetics suck.
I ran down the halls of the hotel, taking the stairs as fast as I could to the main lobby. It was a homely place, wooden tables, a bar, and a registration desk where the manager sat. He’s a fat little man, and I mean him no offense by saying it. When he saw me, he wave me over.
“Hey Sai, where were you the rest of the day?”
“S-Sorry,” I stutter. “I sort of fell asleep…”
“Well, being it your first week, I’ll let it slide,” the manager said, patting me on the head. You may be wondering why I didn’t tell him what they did to me. Well, at the time, I was twelve with some amount of pride, embaressed as heck, and not wanting to get Tilyu in trouble. When he’s the first guy your age you’ve seen in five years and you ‘un’decidedly gave him his first nonconsensual sexual experience that just so happened to be your own and you’re, by the way, twelve? Believe me, I was far from telling a guy I met a week ago what happened.
“You look red,” the manager said. “You okay Sai?”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” I reply, even though my conscious is telling me to tell him, and my pride is telling me not to, and my common sense is telling me not to…
“Then you’d get to work young man,” the manager said playfully, shuffling his hand in my hair. Well, the manager was just someone you had to like. Sorry to say, but he’s by far the nicest person I’ve ever met in the entire world.
No, I’m still not telling him what happened…
I grabbed a broom from the corner and walked outside, starting to sweep the porch that went around the first two floors of the hotel. It wasn’t a large place, but then again, we are inside the palace walls. Even though the hotel seemed small compared to the palace, it was the largest building in the area, stretching up seventeen and a half floors. But the half floor is our little secret. The manager doesn’t even know it exists.
On the quartz sidewalk I began to sweep, a tedious job. Sand got on it every now and then, the quartz would chip, or some foreigner would bring dirt into the town. All was immediately disposed in designated machines that would teleport them to some factory where they’d make more sidewalk. It’s confusing, I don’t understand any of it.
But something caught my eye today, it was a large machine hovering above the side walks (there are no streets, mind you, everyone walks to places.) leading a row of people past the hotel. They were all older than me, but still fairly young, each tied around the neck by rope, their hands by chains. I stopped and watched as they marched past.
“Those are slaves,” the manager explained, coming up from behind me. “Those are all kinds of different people there. I saw some palace dwellers, of course, but I also saw a few other races from the outside. You be careful and stay near the hotel this week, understand?”
“Why?” I ask.
“Slave trade is in town,” the manager explained. “I don’t want you to be mixed up in any of it.” He took the broom from my hands. “I’ll finish up sweeping. There are a few guests that need rooms.”

“Hey Sai!” At this point I roll my eyes. It’s not that Leon is annoying or anything…well, he is annoying, but he’s older on me and hangs on me, and I really didn’t want to deal with it right now. Honestly, I wanted to go check on Tilyu.
“What?” I ask exasperatedly.
“Where were you yesterday at dinner?” he whined. Leon had brown hair and brown eyes, just like me, but he died his hair black back when we were in the gang. He’s at least five years older than me. “It got so lonely.”
“I had other things to take care of,” I reply shortly.
“Like what?” he asked. “Did you meet a pretty girl or something? Manager doesn’t give out chores past six o’clock for our day shift…”
“No, I did not meet a pretty girl,” I said, my face flushing. Damn blushing reflex.
“Oh, so you did,” Leon laughed.
“No I didn’t,” I fought back, because I didn’t. “I’m sorry Leon, but I need to go see someone right now, can you please go somewhere else?”
“So you’re going to see her?” Leon asked. “What’s her name? I want to meet her later!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, if you like Leon, good for you, but I didn’t want to put up with him right now. I was done with my chores for the day, and the red sun was already down for now, casting faint blue shadows of the dimmer moon in the hallway. Dinner was soon, and I was wondering if Tilyu wanted to come.
“Ahh!” It was faint, but familiar, and, you guessed it, coming from Tilyu’s room. I started to run, grabbing the small set of keys from my pocket, and opened the door, door bursting to the other wall.
Yulitha looked up from her work below her, smiling: “Hello dear. Thanks for the visit last night, but today I have to ask you to leave us alone.”
~*End Chapter Two*~
A/N: Okay, more explicitness in the next chapter.
Shout Outs:
Sekre: Glad you liked it!
