First Night: Prelude

Derrik and Dynadin had agreed that seven nights would best be claimed as seven full nights, starting at sunset on the first day, and ending at sunrise on the eighth day. This gave Derrik almost a day of freedom to think over his choice. Not as if I could take it back... Derrik thought to himself, staring out the window as the sky had just started turning it's warning orange. The others... well, Void at least had taken almost all day to try and talk both him and Dynadin out of it. He'd finally managed to dodge out of her sight. Biohazard hadn't spoken to him since he'd closed the door on them. Derrik could only assume that something had happened between Biohazard and Dynadin in the past, and that would also explain Void's obsession with it.
Noone else seemed to care, or at least they hadn't heard. It didn't matter, He'd made up his mind when he'd closed that door. But there was one opinion he still wanted to hear, even if it didn't change things...
"Havin' second thoughts squirt?" Savage's gravelly voice came almost as if on cue. Savage sat on the chair next to the windowseat Derrik was sitting in. "I heard what happened. Y'know kid, I could bury 'im in the back yard if ya wanted." Derrik shook his head, not really ready to look at Savage, no matter how ready he was to listen.
"I made up my mind. I wouldn't have agreed if I wasn't going to go through with it." Savage watched the boy, muzzle unreadable.
"Well runt, I guess you're keepin' your word. Ya can't hold most men ta that. Jus' Make sure it's worth it Kid." Savage rose, mussing Derrik's hair absentmindedly as he walked away. Derrik felt only slightly better about what he knew lay ahead.
