Anything But Normal!
Pt 2: Am I Forgetting Something

I sighed softly when I heard voices around me, and I knew that I was still at the track, that it was hot, and my head was resting on something soft. I peeked one eye open to see that girl that I was trying to hit on earlier, and she was gently stroking my hair. Beside her was Ellis looking as though he was about to puke but he was trying to hid it behind the book he was reading, or was he. I also noted that I was surrounded by girls, and I lifted my head from the chicks lap and looked around. Then all the girls gave me a worried look, “What happened?” I asked softly. Smiles broke out on their faces and they all started hugging me like made crazy, cooing over me and everything. I was so loving it. Then they led me down to where the coach was telling him that I should leave because of the falls that I had, and Ellis was standing behind us with two bags hanging from his shoulders. He put the bags in the spots car and got in the drivers seat and waited patiently for the girls to stop whinnying over me.

Once I finally got in the passengers seat Ellis took off down the road, he didn’t even give me enough time to put my seat belt on. Jeez the kid could get jealous, it was just a few girls nothing to get upset over, seeming to sense my thoughts he slowed down. “Sorry.” He said softly. I just smiled and then it hit me, I had not said thank you to my friend at all today with the three times that he helped me.
“Ellis-…”
“You know you don‘t have to, I already know. Your welcome!”
He was starting to sound like his normal self, “I was just mad because those girls thought that I couldn’t take care of you, even though I have for the past what twelve, thirteen years.”
“Yeah, you cou-…”
“What happened with you anyway, I mean one minute you‘re running to chase after some guy in a black overcoat on the hottest day of the year, that no one else saw. Then you‘re laying flat on your ass!”
“The guy, you saw him?”
“Yeah, how could I not, he was staring at me like I stole and killed his cat!”
“You didn‘t, did you?”
“Why would I do that?”
“Chill I was just asking!”
“So he was watching us both, that‘s strange I should really think on this.”
“Actually, you can‘t you have to be a your father‘s party tonight remember. Suite and tie?”
“Damn, I forgot, I don‘t wanna go!” I stopped and looked at Ellis, “Ellis buddy, ol’ pal, you want to go don‘t you.”
“Why would I want to go, your parents a filthy rich I wouldn‘t fit in there.”
“Sure you would, all you have to do is not swear.”
“I‘m tempted to let you suffer by yourself, but I guess I could go.”
“Yes!”

Ellis just smiled and drove us back to the apartments and we both got out, I was about to get my bags but he insisted on doing it himself. I followed him to our apartments, it was convenient that his was right across the hall from mines. I made sure my parents knew how much of a best friend that he was and how nice it would be to have him near to help out sometimes. Ellis opened his door and I followed him in, he placed our bags next to his couch then he sat down. I moved to sit next to him and then suddenly he pulled himself to where he was sitting on top of me and his head rested on my shoulder. I was used to this, he’s been doing it since I first met him and like I usually do I wrapped arms around his waist. I could feel all his stress melting away, I don’t know how but sometimes he would fall asleep like this and I could too.

Never once has anyone bothered to question this position, though it didn’t really matter we never did anything to make any question it. A while later we finally moved from our comfortable positions to get dressed for my father’s party, once Ellis was about to move he noticed something. Though he didn’t say anything he just stood and walked into his room, I sighed picked up my bag then walked across the hall to my own apartment. I dropped the bag on the floor and went straight into the bathroom there was nothing different about me this time, I sighed and then started getting ready.

An hour later there was a knock on my door and then Ellis let himself in and walked straight into the kitchen. I looked in the mirror again and checked myself over, I wore a black suit pants and jacket with a button down white shirt. I left a few buttons undone and skipped the tie all together, I walked into the kitchen to see Ellis leaning on the counter. He was dressed in a formal pair of black pants and a black button down short sleeved shirt that showed the gold he wore. He held his jacket in his hand and his black hair was a bit more controlled but still spiky, he let out a soft sigh before standing up straight. He turned to face me and smiled softly, “Well, ready to go?”
~*~*~:: New Scene ::~*~*~

We both stood silently next to my father who was introducing me to employers that were looking to hire a strong spirited young man. I pretended that I was happy to met them and Ellis stood at my side trying his best to look as if he were invisible. After a while he disappeared somewhere on one of the balconies where no one else was near. I quietly followed after him making sure that my father hadn’t noticed and I was almost caught by my mother. Lucky for me there was a rather large guy passing by at the moment and I used that opening to run into the hall where I was Ellis disappear to. I flipped back the blue curtain to make sure that Ellis was there and when I saw him I stepped out onto the balcony. He looked back at me then looked up at the moon that was right in front of us, it looked as though if you reached far enough you could touch it.

“Wow” was all I could say.
“Its beautiful isn‘t it?” Ellis asked.
“Yeah,”

He looked down at his hands and I had a feeling of great sadness and instinctively wrapped my arms around his waist and pulled him close. He kept his head pressed to my chest and then suddenly pulled away, and he looked at me with sad eyes and then smiled. Tears were running down his face I just looked at him not knowing what to do, I didn’t even know why he was crying, the party couldn‘t be that bad. “I have a question for you.” He said as if trying lighten the situation.

“Yeah? What is it?” I asked even more worried.
“What if this wasn‘t real, what would do?” He asked.
“What do you mean?” Now I’m confused.
“Okay, um…what if I were to disappear and all your memories of me were erased, what would you do?” He said in the same tone.
“Why would you disappear, like…that?”
“Could you please answer the question?” He pleaded.
“Okay, I don’t know…I guess I would feel like something‘s missing and then I‘d probably go looking for you and not stop until I knew what it was that I couldn‘t find.”
“Oh…so you‘d go looking for me?”
“Yeah.”
“Even if you couldn‘t remember my face, or my voice, or anything about me?”
“Yeah, I‘d feel like I was missing something.”
“I see.”

He said and took his jacket off one sleeve and rolled that sleeve up to his shoulder where a gold snake armband rested. He took it off and then put his clothes the way they were supposed to be, then walked over towards me and held it out to me. I just looked at him, this was one of his most favorite arm bands that he owned, why would he be giving it to me. He smiled when he noticed that I didn’t understand what he was trying to do, then moved closer until he was pressing against me.
“I want you to have it because I don‘t want you to forget me, so please take it.” He said sadly.
“I don‘t understand, what are you saying?” I asked.
“That I have to go soon and I just want you to have something to remember me by.”

I looked down at him like he was crazy but he didn’t look back at me, and then I knew that he was serious. He stepped back again and held the band out to me, and I took it from him this time causing him to smile. “The stars…” he said before wrapping his arms around my waist again, and I looked up to see that they were as beautiful as the moon. I sighed and closed my eyes and held on tight to the guy in my arms, my best friend the person that meant more than any girl. He was leaving me, but why would he leave me what did I do wrong? “Nothing, you did nothing wrong.” His voice was in my head and then I noticed that I felt insanely hot, I moved a bit to get away from the heat, and the next thing I knew I was on the floor.

I looked up quickly to see that I was in my apartment to be more précised on the floor next to my bed, and was sweating up a storm. I looked at my clock to see that it was nearly time for gym class, man why did the teacher have to pick the hottest day of the year to kill us on the track. I stood and made my way to the bathroom and looked in the mirror, my hair was starting to get too long again father is sure to tell me to cut it. I quickly hopped in the shower and when I finished I made my way to my room, where I grabbed some boxers a pair of sweat pants and a white shirt. I stopped short of putting my pants on and looked at the clock, something felt oddly familiar about this.

I shrugged and continued to get dressed then walked into the kitchen and grabbed a glass was water. I filled a water bottle with ice and water then walked over to my duffle bag that sat next to the front door. I picked up my keys from the table and opened the door, I down in time to see a small package laying on the floor. I bent down to pick it up and then looked at it for a moment, there was no return address and it had stamps all over the brown box. I closed the door and put my bag back down on the floor and walked over to the my black couch and sat down. I opened the box only to find a smaller one that was light blue with a gold ribbon wrapped around it, I pulled the ribbon lightly and placed it on the table in front of me. I pulled the lid off the box and looked down at the snake armband that sat inside the box, that’s when I noticed that the words ‘Never forget to look at the stars’ was written on the cover.

I gently took the armband out and held it out to eye level, it looked so familiar to me I just put it on my left arm and moved it around a bit. I smiled to myself when the clock in my room went off reminding me that I was late, I jumped from the couch and grabbed all the things I had before. I opened the door and locked it as I walked into the hall, I nearly ran all the way down to my black sports car that was in the large garage. I opened the back seat and threw my bag in then moved into the drivers seat then placed my bottled water in the cup holder. I started the car and was about to pull out the garage when I felt like I was forgetting something, I looked behind me and then at the passengers seat.

::‘C’mon we’re going to be late if you don’t start moving this thing.’::

I continued to look at the seat but then started the car and made my way down to the track the coach wanted us to me him at. Man it was so fucking hot, I walked up to the coach and he looked at my for a moment before shouted. “Start running! Six laps!”
“Six, what happened to three!” I shouted back.
“You are late by six minutes, so get on the track!”

I sighed and then moved over to the bleachers to drop off my bag then made my way down to the track. I am considered one of the fastest students in class so it didn’t take me long to do five laps around the track, but in the middle of my sixth I had to stop and check this girl out. Then I stopped all together, why does that sound so familiar to me? I looked at the girl and ran up to her, she smiled at me and the two of us talked for a little while before we both got off the track. I sat as far away from her as I could get without making it look like I was trying to avoid her, I grabbed my water bottle and wiped some that dripped down my right arm.

People were complaining to the coach that it was too hot to be sitting out in the sun for gym and the man finally caved with annoyance. He told everyone to and I quote ::“Get your sorry asses of my track and go home!”:: I just stood with all my things and went down a few stairs before it felt like someone pushed me and I fell hitting the stairs pretty hard. I heard people rushing about me to get my up as gently as they could and the coach was yelling at the kid that had pushed me saying something about a concussion.

I woke a while later with my head in a soft lap I nuzzled deeper into the warmth but I could feel a sweat breaking out on my chest. I slowly sat up holding my head and looked around at all the girls cooing around me. I just smiled, I really like when the ladies gave me more attention than the other guys, and sometimes I didn’t have to fall to get it. One of the girls carried my bags while a few others helped me stand and walked with their arms linked to mines. Once we got to my car I thanked them all for helping me reassuring them that I could manage to make it home safely. I got in the car and waved goodbye to the girls and then looked at the passengers seat before starting the car and driving off down the road.

Once I was safe inside the garage I opened the car door and took out my bag and water bottle, I walked out an into the apartment building. I silently rode the elevator up to our, I, I mean my floor…I looked at the spot next to me and then back at the elevator door. I stepped out and walked down the hall to me room then looked at the blank wall across the hall and I instantly felt compelled to touch it. My hand fell where had there been a door there the doorknob would be located, I felt my body heat rise and then I remembered I was the armband. I was cool against my warm skin there was something about it that relaxed me in a way, I pressed my body to the wall for a moment before turning and enter my apartment.

Just as I walked in the phone rang and I didn’t feel like answering it, I heard my mother’s voice on the other end and she reminded me that I had to attend father party tonight. I sighed and began to get ready because the earlier I got there the more of a chance I have to leave before midnight. I walked into my room and about an hour later came out and walked into the bathroom I looked in the mirror again and checked myself over. I wore a black suit pants and jacket with a button down white shirt, I left a few buttons undone and skipped the tie all together. I walked to the door and grabbed my keys, letting the felling that I was forgetting something not bother me. I walked to my car and stopped with a saw a figure with a cape that covered his body and face leaning on my car. I walked over the him and crossed my arms, “Sorry I don‘t give free rides.”
“Where did you get that armband?” He questioned.

I left the armband on but my sweater and jacket was covering it so it wasn’t possible for this guy to see it. He chuckled a little before standing straight and walking over to the other side of my car, the door opened without my permission and he let himself in. I stood in shock and anger, who did this guy think that he was, I am the son of the richest man in the city and I could get the best lawyers to sue his ass off.
::“Are we going to a party or what?”::

Well there you have it, chapter two!
