Waking Up
Elizabeth groaned her mind slipping from the darkness of sleep into the brightness and awareness that comes with awakening. Dragging her hands along the surface she was laying upon, to assess as to why her head was aching, brought the realization of cool material that flowed like water under her hands bringing with it panic rising inside her mind. Elizabeth opened her eyes quickly only to be blinded by glaring brightness that burned her eyes forcing her to close them. With less haste she tried opening her eyes again while she raised her hand to block out most of the light. Slowly her eyes focused on the blurry images surrounding her and alighted upon a room of such rich splendor it could only belong to royalty, causing a frightened gasp to escape her lips. The walls were a soft blue, reminiscent of the sky, bare but for a lone golden framed painting of a pot of what appeared to be blue roses hanging over a wide fireplace with the sun glinting off its’ golden surface. This was all to the left side of the spacious room while the right housed and ornate vanity of climbing golden vines along the stool, desk and tall arched mirror and five large golden framed windows reaching from ceiling to floor. The room in its entirety could fit her families’ cottage into its confines with a little space left over. Other items in the room included a small rounded table draped in what appeared to be golden damask, she would take a closer look later, accompanied by two chairs, in the same golden vine design as the vanity, with golden cushions, one chair was small and dainty the other more sturdy and high backed and a blue rug in a similar color to the wall. She realized after looking down the surface she was reclining upon was a bed the sheets were silk as blue as the walls and tucked around her body while she was propped against no less the ten fluffy pillows in golden silk. The bed was a four poster, the type she had always fancied she would one day own, with carvings of leafy vines trailing up all in a warm golden wood and looking down she realized, a bit high off the ground.
All through her observations she had to keep her terror at bay lest it choke her but now with nothing more to see terror clenched painfully around her lungs, choking the air from her body and causing her vision to slowly blacken around the edged. She took a deep breath, bringing air into her burning lungs and chasing away the blackness of her vision, knowing that panic would do her no good right now. She sat up slowly remembering the lesson with first opening her eyes only to lay back down quickly feigning sleep as the wall next to the fireplace opened outwards as a disguised door. She could hear one set of footsteps approach the bed and rest a cool hand on her forehead. Deciding the person seemed harmless enough she opened her eyes as the young woman leaning over her gasped clutching her heart. “My Lady,” whispered the uniformed woman in a hesitant voice, giving a quick curtsy and running a critical eye over the woman in bed, “we were all so worried af…,” the woman’s speech was cut short as Elizabeth sat up and asked abruptly “ what did you call me and where am I?” The stiff woman gifted her with and odd expression, “I called you my lady,” she answered slowly as Elizabeth sat feeling terrified which most likely showed on her face as the other woman touched her hand patting it comfortingly, though its effect was lost to her nerves, “I will go fetch the doctor and let the master know you are awake,” said the woman while taking her hand back and turning to leave only to be stopped by the hand gripping her own. Elizabeth looked imploringly down at the woman “please tell me where I am or at least who you are,” her tone begged while wincing inside at her desperation. Her mood changed to frustrated anger as the woman in the black dress and white apron simply smiled and pulled her hand away to walk out the still opened door and close it, so once again it became wall as if a door had never been there, with an audible click of a lock.
Hello everyone sorry for any confusion and the short chapters but things will slowly start clearing up. I know I am promising a lot and it will all happen over time. Thanks for reading...
