// Kadoria//
It was that soft sing song voice whispering my name that usually woke me most mornings. But now, as I meditated, I heard her but now her voice shook in fear.
// Kadoria!//
I opened my eyes and Jimonbell was knelt before me.
“Please K, don’t do this. I don’t want them to hurt you”
I pushed back her silk like blond hair and smiled, just enough to show my pointed canines. Her sea green eyes were wide with fear showing the violet veins.
There were several races of Elf. Jimonbell being an ocean elf had long white/ blonde hair with turquoise streaks; her eyes though humans called them normal ‘shape’ were completely sea green, with purple veins in the corners, her lips, pale blue like forget-me-nots. Even then I thought she was beautiful and that I was lucky to have her as my friend.
I stood up and stretched and caught a look at myself in the mirror. My clan was very different. I was a dark forest Elf. Deep forest green eyes, lips red like holly berries, hair dark brown with light brown and dark green streaks, My willowy but sturdy build. My body wouldn’t reach maturity until I was sixteen so I still had a boyish figure at thirteen but the monks had trained my muscles well.
“We’ll be ok” I reassured her. “We’ll be ok. I just need you to trust me. That’s all I need you to do for me. Can you do that one thing?”
She nodded a tremulous bob of the head and we hugged each other. In a distant hall a bell began to toll, the warning bell. Then I knew it was time. I put on my amour enjoying the familiarity of is fluid movement and its silk like touch. As I zipped up my boots my team approached and I looked to them.
“This is your last chance to pull out” I said turning to them. Luken the only other forest Elf in our team shook his head.
“You and James are our leader, we follow you into this battle” he said his voice cracking. When his voice eventually did break his voice would be a deep baritone soothing yet frightening in his anger.
Even then we were so mature, even for Elflings. Between the ages of twelve and twenty our bodies and minds would mature humans call this period ‘puberty’ in Elven tongue we called it Devenire, also called the period of many trials. Though our body would rapidly grow and change between the age of twelve and sixteen the second part of Devenire is one that’s name translates into many trials. Between sixteen and twenty would be when Elven children would come into their powers, most Elflings merely learn how to control them but we at the school would be taught how to grow our power and learn to use it as a weapon and not let it drain our strength when we use large amounts, like it would usually do in our kind.
Together we waked to the main sparring hall
The entire school had settled itself on the chairs around the edge of the sparing room. This particular room ran the width and length of the Mansion. Sub level one, it was breath takingly large. At the head of the room our opponents waited next to the teachers. I lead the way feeling the gaze of every person in the room upon us; their eyes seemed to burn my body. I could sense anger in some of them, admiration and amusement. It sickened me. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t afraid but even then I knew I was doing the right thing.
We reached our destination and took our place opposite our opponents, the leader looked at me, the hatred in his eyes burned my senses but I blocked it out.
“Let me take him K” James whispered.
“No, He’s mine” I hissed.
The Jambinna, or Head teacher as humans would call him stood and made a speech. Not a word of it did I hear, my mind focussed on the task ahead, adrenalin pumping around my body preparing it for battle. Wooden Sai were handed to us and I frowned in distaste but accepted it. Jimonbell was lead to sit before the teachers, she was the prize. I clicked my neck and then my shoulders then found my self a space in the centre of the room my team making a V behind me, a formation that I had named ‘raised wings’. Closing my eyes I centred myself and called out to my team mates with my mind. I felt each and every one of them connect with my mind, the connection was fuzzy and weak but we were so young and still learning.
/ They’re going to aim to take one of us out to make it easier for them, stick together but give yourself space. Blaise stay with Luken the best you can, you being the shortest and youngest looking and female makes you most likely target. No matter what happens we keep fighting until we are all down/
I felt their agreement and the connection between us grow a little stronger and clearer, I felt my emotions mingle with there’s, I sensed their fear and nervousness along with my own and the rising excitement.
The enemy advanced swiftly.
/Hold/ I told them and they did not move all poised for battle.
I let the enemy get with in grasp of me before I allowed them to move.
/Now!/ I didn’t mean to scream the word in their head but I know I did. They obeyed springing forward and attacking. Though I was still aware of my team my attention Narrowed to the wooden Sai that was coming to my ribs, I blocked the blow and twisted in order to attack with my left hand but it was blocked and I found myself face to face with my Enemy.
“Hello again, Gordon” I said as my eyes glared into his. He wrenched back and I continued my attack forcing him back. I felt panic in my mind that belonged not to me. I froze for just that split second and felt Gordon’s elbow collide with my ribs then his foot with my stomach with such a force I slid across the floor. I struggled to my feet panting and just gained my balance before I was attacked by Gordon again, James blocked the blow for me as well as kicking out at his opponent back. I noticed Rainroe land on her back her opponent moving forward to place his Sai at her throat, which would mean the end of the fight for her and she’d have to stand aside while her opponent continued on. I threw my sai and it collided with the large boys head. He hit the ground and Rain got up and touched the boy’s throat but he was out cold and some of the students who’d been at the side dragged him off to the medielf. I turned back to the job at hand, I noticed Gordon and James fighting but there were several people between me and them. In my head I did a mental count of who were still in the battle.
/Only four/ came the voice of Aarion who’d been knocked out. / There’s six of them K/
Scooping up an abandoned sai I jumped forward into the nearest battle. Every thing after that was a bit of a blur until I got to James and Gordon. James was on the floor and Gordon kicked him in the stomach just about to place the sai at his neck. I screeched and ran forward he pulled his sai back and hit me with some force to the side of the head, I felt blood dribble from my temple and I lost my balance for a momentarily.
“Kadoria!” Jimonbell screamed.
I felt a hard kick to the ribs and hit the floor and Gordon stood over me triumphantly. I looked around, James battling, rainroe placing her sai to another girl’s throat and being snuck up on, kale fighting two girls at once.
Gordon leant forward and I glared at him defiantly. I could hear Jimonbells screaming to him to leave me alone and as he leant forward to touch my throat I grabbed his hands and kicked him, he flipped and landed hard on his back above my head I flipped back landing astride him and placed my sai a this throat. I smirked and stood. I walked over to Kale but I heard shouting, Gordon back on his feet running towards me, he swung a punch at me, he was consumed by his anger and his fighting was suffering for it. The teachers were shouting at him to stop, others were standing up ready to stop him; the commotion had stopped the others from fighting.
“Leave him!” I ordered as James started to come forward to help he looked at the teachers who nodded and every one took their seats. By this point my anger that was bubbling in the pit of my stomach was trying to take over but I swallowed it and used it to focus myself. My sai were knocked from my hands and he had lost one of his. Grabbing his sai hand I twisted so my back was pressed against his chest. I stamped on his foot and brought my elbow to his ribs, He cried out and let go of the sai. That’s when he pulled a knife. More screams as the blade cut a long welt into my arm that dripped blood on the floor. I grabbed his hand as he aimed for my throat. Then it hit me, he really was going to kill me, after all we were assassins, this is what we were trained for. I moved my head and twisted pushing his hand towards him, the knife sunk deep into his chest. His eyes widened and he and I were locked together. I let go of the knife and found his blood and mine mingled.
“Students back to your common rooms, Jimonbell take Kadoria to get her wound sorted” Jambinna shouted. His ordered were followed immediately. I felt myself being pulled away from the boy who was now struggling for his life. Sir Jamgie carried Gordon away. I just stared at the blood on my hands.
“K are you ok?” Jimonbell asked as she guided me to the medicine room. I turned to her and nodded, clenching my fist.
“Yeah, it was me or him and I’m not ready to die” but inside my mind I was in turmoil, I might have just killed some one and I knew it wouldn’t be the last time.
