*THIS IS THE LETTER!!!*
To my dearest friend and confidante Drelias,

Together we have faced many dangers. Yet in times of war or peace alike, you and only you have I been able to trust with all my soul. You have been as a brother might have been, and I am not ashamed to say that I have loved you dearly.

However, there is one thing I have not told you, my oldest friend, for I am ashamed of what you would think of me. I am not a good man, Drelias. No, do not argue, for it would be futile. By the time you will have received my journal (in which I recorded all the thoughts, feelings, and events of my past) I will have died.

For a long time now, I have known that death was a breath away from me. Still I was not brave enough to face your criticizing gaze. You would not have said anything, but your green eyes cannot hide your feelings, and I was afraid to face it.

Drelias… I have a daughter. Not Aeriane. I did not have this daughter with Aelia, my queen. I do not even know the name or location of this daughter. All I know is that she exists and whom her mother was. Her mother was the loveliest, kindest woman I had ver met. Her name was Kumiko Hamano, and she was Aelia’s servant. Although she was poor, I fell in love with her, and she with me.

As you know, I secretly took her to my bed, knowing that Aelia would be furious if I slept with a maid of hers. One day however, Kumiko ran away, never to be seen again. I never knew why, and my heart was broken.

I would never have known about the child but one day this old woman came to the court, and begged my presence. When she mentioned Kumiko’s name, I was eager of course, and quickly received her. She told me she had been there when Kumiko had given birth… to my daughter. For many years she debated whether to tell me or not. Kumiko had told her not to tell anyone at all, and it had been her dying wish.

I begged her to tell me where the child was, but the old woman only stared sadly at me, and told me she knew not. Then, feeling pity for me, the woman told me how I would be able to find her. On her sixteenth birthday, you will be able to find her, for she will grow into her powers. A light will emanate from her body that only fairies will be able to see, like all other fairies do. By this light, you will be able to locate her.

I don't deserve to ask this request of you, but I do it all the same. Please find my daughter and bring her to where she belongs.

Love,
Trelian

The cold water revived her somewhat, stinging her face. Still, it was way too early in the morning for anyone sane to be awake. *I must be insane* Miki Tayashi thought, a smile appearing on her face. Rigorously, she brushed her teeth with her pink toothbrush, then rinsed out her mouth. A yawn escaped her unwillingly, as she ran her plastic comb through her medium length jet black hair. It was only four AM in the morning, but she had a job to do.

She pulled on a pair of very faded blue jeans, socks that had been mended a couple of times, and an old navy colored sweatshirt. Tying her hair back with a purple scrunchie, she quickly surveyed her reflection in the cracked mirror in the tiny bedroom she shared with her two foster-sisters, Yui and May. It would do, although Miki did wish she could as gorgeous as her friend Yumi Ayaka, who got all the hot boyfriends. She was simply too petite, at five three and not curvaceous enough to be called sexy. At best, Miki was simply cute. The only feature about herself that Miki liked was her eyes, which were a pure blue, with other shades mixed in.

She shivered as she stepped into the ice cold kitchen, hastily gulping down a glass of orange juice and a slice of unbuttered toast. The sounds of heavy snoring could be heard from her foster parents’ door as she exited the apartment, locking it afterwards. It was even colder outside than it had been inside, and Miki shuddered as the wind blew through her thin sweatshirt. It was only November, which was why she hadn’t worn her jacket, for she’d need it more during the colder months.

After delivering newspapers, Miki checked her watch. It was five forty-five AM, which meant she could get an extra fifteen minutes of sleep. She sighed, as she locked up her rusty bicycle to a pole, then ran up the stairs to her apartment, unlocking the door and entering. Miki was about to slip into her bed for just a minute when her mother woke up and started yelling.

“You lazy bitch! Why are you about to sleep?” her foster mom screamed.

Miki winced, shrinking from the heavy-set woman. “I was just going to rest for a little while until I had to get up. I finished my paper route early today.” The woman slapped her across the face painfully. Miki grasped her cheek, a tear running down her face.

“Don’t you dare talk back to me, you whore. Make breakfast, you worthless piece of crap!” By this time, her foster sisters, who were the woman’s real daughters, woke up. Yui looked sympathetically at you, but May giggled Her cheek burning, Miki got up, her muscles aching. Her foster mother kicked her, making her hurt more, but she managed to cook breakfast. All the while, her heart ached, and she wept inside, but kept smiling through her pain.

It was her sixteenth birthday.

“Capture her, and bring her to me,” the leader of the Death Fae ordered, his storm-cloud hued eyes cool, his face emotionless.

In black silk robes designed with silver dragons, the leader was lethally handsome, especially under the pitch of the night sky, moonlight striking his shoulder-length gilt hair. At six feet and eight inches tall, Saruwatari Kaito was intimidating, in both face and form. Everything about him spelled death, as his fairy followers were aptly named. He was skilled with magical and martial arts, as well as with any weapon. By using a combination of ingenuity and militaristic skill, Kaito had managed to conquer much of the fairy world. He had in his power at least half of all kingdoms, which satisfied him. There was only more thing to settle… and then Kaito would be satisfied.

His followers nodded, not daring to contradict their leader- all except for Yamashita Takumi, who was the commander, as well as the closest friend of Kaito. Takumi glared at Kaito.

“Are you at least going to share the reason why we are going all the way to that obscure, hateful planet to get this unimportant human for you?”

“It is none of your business,” Kaito said, his voice dangerous. Takumi ignored it, brushing his fingers through dark auburn hair highlighted with golden-red streaks from sunlight from a tanned face. His ocean blue eyes glittered suspiciously at Kaito, but gave up when seeing the obstinate look on his friend’s face.

“Fine, I’ll leave it alone for NOW.” With a final meaningful stare, he and the others dressed in black sped off towards Earth, leaving Kaito alone with his thoughts.

Kaito had just finished a successful campaign, gaining even more land for his ever-expanding kingdom, but for some reason it gave him no pleasure. All he wanted was revenge… revenge against the Air Fae’s old king. Unfortunately, the old man had died before he could deal with him. Just like the bastard to escape, Kaito mused bitterly.

However, he had found the perfect way to avenge his father’s death. He would get his revenge.
