FIRST DAY
Chapter Two: First Day
White marble floors gleamed as the bright sun shone through the sheer beige curtains of the eastern windows. White painted walls were clean and bare except for the occasional picture of various awards that the Academy had won. A single king sized bed with white sheets was stationed across the room from the windows, it’s position guaranteed that the rising sun would be the first thing to wake the sleeper up. There was a beige couch three feet from the foot of the bed and in front of the couch was a desk along with a bookshelf.
“How boring…” Erica muttered.
Walking through the silver doors that separated the room from the hallway, she motioned for Brenaye to follow her in. She watched as her sister sat down gingerly on the beige couch, bouncing a few times to see if it was soft.
“You know, the people here are really boring and apparently so is the decor.” Erica complained.
Brenaye shrugged. “Everyone is boring to you. Though when you are constantly changing what you like, I don’t know how a person’s supposed to be able to measure up to your standards. I think it’s cool that we’re finally out of the mansion and that people treat us less like princesses and more like people.”
“We practically are princesses!” Erica retorted annoyed that Brenaye never appreciated the luxury that they had lived.
Brenaye looked at Erica for a moment before she stood up and brushed off her white cloak that she had put on earlier this morning. Nervously she tugged at one of her pigtails.
“I’m sorry, Erica. I didn’t mean to irritate you. Though Erica, sooner or later you’re going to have to earn what you get. One way or the other.” Brenaye murmured.
Erica watched as her twin gave a respectfully bow before she turned and left. Angrily she pulled on her own black cloak and followed Brenaye to the auditorium; today they will be given their schedules.
[Auditorium]
Erica sat next to Brenaye in her assigned seat on the row closest to the stage. James sat on the other side of her while Tristian sat on the other side of Brenaye. She was still slightly angry with her sister. How dare that brat tell her that she hadn’t worked for anything? Erica closed her eyes as she expelled her anger into the atmosphere; it was dangerous keeping emotions like that inside when you were a dark sorceress. The sound of boots across the stage once again captured her attention as their principal walked across the stage.
“Hello students. Today is your first official day. Schedules are being passed out as I speak. As soon as you receive your schedules you are to report to you homeroom, then you follow your schedule. All ranks of five report to room 210 in building B, the rest of the ranks are to go to their homerooms that are listed on their schedules. Students roaming the halls during classes are not protected by our school’s book of conduct, meaning that absolutely anything can happen to you. All schedules should have been handed out by now, therefore you are all free to leave.”
Erica fingered the short green card that had her schedule and her locker number on it. Standing up she grabbed her sister’s hand as she began to push and shove her way to the front doors, her sister murmuring ‘sorry’ to whoever was unlucky enough to get in Erica’s way. Upon finally reaching the door she let go of her sister’s hand as she shoved Brenaye out the door in front of her. Looking around the carefully planned courtyard she found herself wondering what it looked like without snow covering it. She sighed. ‘I guess I’ll find out soon enough.’
“Where’s building B?” Erica asked.
“Over there.” Brenaye answered, her first two fingers pointing to a building about fifteen yards east from the northern Auditorium.
Erica studied the building silently as she and her twin made there way over. White marble columns lined the front steps that lead up to two sets of stone doors. A suit of golden armor flanked either side of the doors. The shingled roof looked brand-new and a glass dome extended farther into the air in the middle of the roof. Vaguely she wondered what the area inside the dome was used for.
“Boring, Erica?” Brenaye asked, a devious smirk on her lips as she studied the excited look on her sister’s face.
“Shut it.” Erica growled.
Walking into the building was like walking into the manor on the other side of town where she and her sister lived. Glass walls and silver candles dominated the grand entry hall that she and Brenaye stepped into. Along the eastern wall was a glass desk that a young man was currently sitting behind. Looking up his light green eyes glanced at them before he stood up and shook their hands. Erica put on her most seductive smile; he was really cute.
“Hello…” She greeted allowing her voice to trail off as she waited for him to give her his name.
“Hi, I’m Mr. Lewis. I’m the guardian of this building. And you two are?”
“I’m Erica.”
“And my name is Brenaye.”
“Nice to meet…”
Mr. Lewis was cut off as James came storming in followed by Tristian and the rest of the students who had this building for homeroom. Erica raised an eyebrow as James angrily stood in front of her.
“How dare you leave me behind?!” He yelled.
Erica waved a dismissive hand at him before she followed the other students who had been lead further into the building. James could rot in hell for all she cared; she had other things to do.... And listening to his tantrums was not one of them.
