He looked so concerned over that one painting. Nani was busy scurrying around collecting the other pieces. I stooped and lifted what looked to be a simple pencil sketch.

“It’s a shot of the Coca Cola ad that comes out next month.” I looked down at the black haired man. His gaze hadn’t lifted from the oil on his thigh. It surprised me that he knew without looking what image I had picked up.

“So you have obviously done this type of job before.” It was then that he looked up at me and I realised that his eyes were a golden yellow colour that seemed to glow.

“Yes, Would you prefer to continue this meeting in your office?” It was then that I noticed that Nani had finished collecting all the images that had been scattered and was carefully packing them into the open case. It made me wonder how long I had been staring at him.

“Indeed Mr Chase. If you insist upon cluttering up your office with such disgusting artworks, that is one thing, but to do so in my foyer is completely another point. Remove yourselves at once. Important clients will be arriving soon.” Ah our good old dragon lady strikes again.

I held a hand out to Alenjandro as Nani lifted the now fully packed portfolio. He just smiled at me and stood by himself. Him being this close to me made me realised just how short he truly was. His head didn’t even come to up to my shoulder. He fell in behind Nani, gently taking the portfolio from her grasp. It was surprising to see one so small and skinny lift something that my Eveready bunny assistant had a battle to move. I shot a disapproving look to the secretary.

“Just because you’re my great aunt, it doesn’t give you the right to talk and act like that!” She just scowled at me as I turned and followed Nani and Alenjandro back to the conference room that was also my office.

“Ok. Shall we start anew? Welcome to Truce Tairs. I’m Wulfric Chase, head CEO of this organisation. I am assuming you are one of the artists applying for the ad campaign.” I held my hand out to Alenjandro.

“A pleasure Señor Chase. I am Alenjandro Tesuuki and yes I am applying for the ad campaign. I have brought a portfolio of my work. Shall I show you my work?” I gave him a nod and gestured to the table.

I watched the way his overly large sweater rode up over his hips. The paint splattered jeans clung lovingly to the well-defined curvature of his backside. He was so enticing leaning over the table like that. I just wanted to step up behind him and run a palm up along those faded jeans.

“Sir!” Nani’s voice drew my eyes away from the delectable curve presented towards me. Nani was giving me her overtly annoyed warning look that always appeared whenever I stared for too long at an overly attractive male client.

“Shall we begin?” I smiled and nodded at Nani as she distracted me from Alenjandro’s faded jeans. I stepped up to the table to view the mirage of colours and shapes.

“You’re very skilled. Have you had anything shown or published?” I looked up from the art to the artist as he straightened, his over large sweater sliding back down to cover his hips and a small portion of his upper thighs.

“I’ve had one or two combined showings with fellow artists. I’ve never really wanted to show my work, I was usually pressed into it when the other didn’t have enough artwork to cover the walls appropriately. But of course that isn’t relevant to this interview.” He stood very straight, his hands linked behind his back.

I smiled at the bright light that lit up his face as he spoke, so vaguely on the artistic topic that it almost seemed unrelated. He looked so happy even as he came back to the realisation that his topic wasn’t relevant and he brought it to an end.

“Oh no Mr Tesuuki! I’m very interested in knowing all of your background. I do hate to make you uncomfortable, but I must request a police check.” Nani sounded most serious, but I could see the awe in her eyes as she stared at the images spread out over the table.

“I have one on hand.” I turned my gaze back to Alenjandro as he spoke. He was proffering a single page towards Nani. Nani looked shocked at the shortness of the police check.

“Well Nani? You look worried about our artist here.” I couldn’t help pulling her leg. She scowled at me briefly before running her gaze over the sheet.

“Perfectly clear. Not a single minor offence.” Nani sounded awed and I remembered her multiple charges on disturbing the peace and excessive noise.

“Obviously better than you Nani.” I couldn’t resist the dig. Nani’s eyes narrowed and she opened and closed her mouth several times.

“Sir! You are pushing closer and closer to the edge of a very high cliff. Keep pushing and you’ll find the end.” By the end of the speech, Nani was looking rather foreboding with hands on hips and a frown across her lips.

The two of them were arguing like brother and sister. And this was supposed to be my big all-important meeting. I sighed and allowed my gaze to run randomly over my work. I wasn’t worried. They would remember why I was there sooner or later.

“Now Nani. Remember that you are indeed under my employ, not the other way round.” He sounded playful and I watched, surprised that Nani relaxed under the teasing. I continued to wait, hoping they would eventually remember that I was in the room.
