*Daithi’s POV*

The maiden sun’s rays shone through my eyelids as I blinked myself awake. Rubbing at my eyes, I sat up in my down bed and yawned greatly. Outside, the birds were singing and fluttering about the flowers of our world. Looking out my window I could see the city below the castle, and I smiled upon it. Even though I hated my status as a Prince, this was one of the rare perks.

A soft knock came at the door.

“Come in.” I said my voice rough from being out of use. The white door was opened and I jumped out of bed at who I saw.

“Lin! Oh Lin, I have missed you!” I ran to my dark haired servant, and hugged him quickly, making him drop the towels he has brought.

“My Prince, I am glad to see that you are feeling better.” He smiled and rubbed my white hair softly. Lin was the only close friend I had in this castle, and although it was forbidden for a slave to touch his Mi’lachen or Master I allowed it with pleasure.

Lin’s pale hand felt my forehead, and I groaned playfully, “I am sick no longer! Please allow me out of this room!” He laughed, shaking his head, “Of course my Mi’lachen, but first comes your bath.” He walked to the other side of the room, and pulled back the blue curtain to reveal my bathroom.

My bath was really a natural hot spring, and the steam the rose from the clear waters looked inviting. Slowly, Lin slid my silk shirt over my head, and avoided his eyes. Even personal slaves could not see their Mi’lachen unclothed. His face was turning a dark shade of crimson, which stood out among his blue black hair. He fidgeted nervously in his blue robes as I slid into the bubbling water.

“My Prince, is it a good feeling to be eighteen?” Lin walked around me, and chose out soap for my hair. I sighed, “I do not want to be. I want no part of this war…”

The war had been going on for about five years, and yet we were never sure who we were fighting. Our war lords called them the Linock, the ones who devour cites whole. It is said that they enslave innocent beings and take them to their mines. No one knew for sure where it was or what they did there, but the ones who did not become slaves, were eaten.

Being eighteen meant that I was to control an army of my own, but I hated fighting. Not like my brother, Amenyth who lived to shed blood. Sometimes, I even doubted that he was a fairy. Our city had not been attacked yet…but we lived in a state of paranoia. We had closed our ports and trading operations, we had closed our gates to strangers, and I hated it all.

I suddenly became very aware of Lin’s hands massaging my scalp and every muscle in my body relaxed. I could feel his warm breath on my bare shoulder and my amethyst eyes fluttered.

Another knock on the door, and from outside the curtain came a voice.

“My Prince Daithi, your visitors have arrived and are awaiting you in the main hall.” My heart sank. I had always dreaded this day.

I was clothed in long white robes, and they flowed behind me as I walked to the main hall. As the guards opened the giant gold plated doors for me, I gasped.

There, in the middle of the room, were thousands of female fairies, their wings of all different shaped and colors, their bodies all anxious and waiting. Yes…today, I was to choose my wife. Lin placed the gold band around my head, and fixed my collar.

“You will do fine.”

I swallowed nervously. Truth be told…I had no interest in women. I never have and I doubted I ever will as the dust from their wings irritated me. The only person I wanted was Lin, but it was forbidden. And now I stood here, in front of all the eligible women in Farai and all I wanted was the man standing behind me. The women lined up in rows and silenced their chatter as all eyes were turned to me. My brother, Amenyth, sat in his golden throne above the room and looked at me with disdain. He had always suspected my secret of not liking women, and despised me for it. The dust threatened to make my sneeze and I could feel Amenyth’s eyes boring into my head.

“What is your decision, my younger, or should I make it for you?” Again, I swallowed and I motioned for Lin to give me the gold band which I would place upon my chosen mates head. I stepped down the pearly stairs, and stopped at the third one from the top. It was now or never. I ran back, threw the band on Lin’s head, and raced from the room.

Outside, I sneezed twice into the back of my hand, my heart pounding. What had I done? They would exile me for sure!

“My…Prince…” Lin entered from the side door, the band still on his head, “I accept.” His lips touched mine, and ecstasy jolted my body. I put my hands around him and pressed my hips into his. We were locked at the lips and I felt myself rising, as his hands roamed my hair. His mouth opened and I slipped my tongue inside the warm cavern.

Oh Gods! Let us stay like this!

Our tongues danced and his hand undid the loose pant part of my robes…when a shock wave struck the castle. We were knocked apart as the screams of women came from the other room, I heard Amenyth’s cry of, “LINOCK!!”

Hastily, I redid my pants and grabbed Lin’s hand as the wall broke in half. We raced down the hallway and I heard the clash of our soldier’s armor as they were tossed aside by the monsters that pursued us.

“Prince! I must get you out of here!” Lin yelled, but we only got five steps more before we were surrounded. It was like nothing I could ever imagine, the monsters towered over us, and I pulled Lin behind me.

“What do you want!?”

I swear it smiled, and Lin was pulled from me.

“NO!” He was lifted into the air and I watched in horror as his body was ripped apart.

“LIN!!” There was no breath in me as blood rained and pooled in the room. My robes were stained crimson and the last sound I heard was the clatter of Lin’s gold band as it hit the tilted floor. I swooned and things went black.

Present Day

I gasped sat up quickly. I must have fallen asleep; and one of my shed tears dripped down my face onto my brown ratty clothes.
“Lin…I love you…” I sniffed and looked back over at the girl. She was pretty, with short black hair. One of her eyes was an icy blue, the other a vivid green. Poor thing had been time frozen for five years…

*Normal POV*

Daithi exited the room where the sleeping Kata lay, and looked out the door. He missed the flowers of his home, all that was here was brown or the pale pink of the crystals they mined. Sekhmet had gone to do her job; she sewed clothes for the other slaves. Often times she came back hunched over, and he would have to massage her back in order for her to stand right. His job was mining crystals, like all the other men. But he could barely lift the pickaxe as he never needed to do physical labor, so he faked sick or injured often. The others he lived with did not resent him; for his beauty the Masters often used him at night. In his heart, he knew the girl would be too.

The sounds of whips drew his attention and he ran outside.

“Relentless pestilence!”

CRACK!

“Scream for me, you whore of cats!”

CRACK!

Makalani’s mouth didn’t twitch, but he gritted his teeth against the pain. The Master raised his whip and slashed it across his tanned back.

CRACK!

“Spit in my face will you?!” Makalani’s ears pulled back, as the lash opened another wound. Daithi’s eyes went wide, and he choked back tears of sympathy for the male Catten. He would be using his green magic again tonight.
