Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Ten years have passed since my mother’s death. I never forgot that sweet perfume she’d wear, the way she fixed my hair every morning: always in a ponytail, the smell of beacon, eggs, and toast, and hot chocolate on cold mornings. Every Saturday morning, we would go to the library. She would read her “grown-up” stuff and I would go to my section to read children books
Nowadays, I live with my aunt, Alice. She’s really wealthy. She’s got a mansion and all these fancy furniture, mostly different styles in each room. In the mornings, I’d wake up to the smell of disgusting vegetarian food and noise of children fighting over the remote, arguing to either watch “Blues Clues” or “Tom and Jerry”.
“Alex, Sam, if you don’t cut that out right now I’m turning the T.V. off!” I shouted at the top of the staircase. I was still dressed in my pajamas, but it really didn’t matter since it was Saturday. Although my aunt hated me walking around the house in my pajama’s, I did it anyway.
“Angel, why do you insist on wearing pajamas around the house when I tell you not to? “ Alice asked. I didn’t answer because she knew what the answer would be.
“There’s some food on table if you finally decide to eat like the rest of us.”
“No, I’ll just eat cereal like every morning. You know I won’t eat any plants except at dinner, so I don’t know why you fix some in the morning for me.” I said it as if I was annoyed.
“Well, I was just wondering if one morning you’d like vegetarian food, Now lose that attitude and go wake up Liz.” She argued.
“It’s not like I’m going to wake up one morning and just say ’Oh I like plant food!’”
I got the last word as I turned from the counter and toward the stairs. I mentally smiled to myself because I knew I had won this argument. I walked up the stairs and to Liz’s room.
Now, Liz wasn’t someone I fully adored. I categorized her as a seventeen-year-old, spoiled, snobby, stuck up, two-faced, preppy bitch…end of story. I was two months older than her and with my bad luck we go to the same school, but thank goodness I’ll be going to college next year. Ever since we were little, we always competed with each other, but as we got older we kind of grew out of it, but we would have our moments.
I stopped in front of her door, knocked and yelled, “Liz! Get up!”
Usually I would just go in and annoy the hell out of her ‘till she would get up, but today I just didn’t feel like it. In return ,she just mumbled and I knocked on her door but a little louder......ok I banged on her door.
“Get your ass up!”
“Shut the hell up. I’m getting up!” Liz yelled.
Satisfied, I walked away and walked down the hall. We had a third floor, but that was the guests’ rooms. We barely went up there, I only did sometimes because we had a balcony.
I walked into my room to get dress. My room was black and white(literally), my favorite two colors. There stood a bed in the middle of the room with bedposts and a black and white comforter, pillows and everything, to the left of the bed was a black table with a big stereo on top, and to the right of the bed was a small table with a phone, lamp, and picture frame. In the far right-corner of the room was a computer desk turned toward the wall and a window in front of it, over looking the yard; on both sides of the desk was two long lamps(both black and white with a spiral design), and on the same wall were three bookshelves packed with books.
The closet was a few feet away from the door, but on the same wall. To the left of the door was a black piano and a bathroom door on the left wall. In the northwest corner of the room were two chairs (one black, one white) and in the middle was a small, square coffee table. Pictures were all around the room, one above the bed was a picture of a black and white rose, one above the two chairs was a picture of two children playing on swings, and other smaller ones.
I took and quick shower, and got dressed in a black tank-top with , a white jean jacket ,and long white jeans. I put on my boots and put my hair up into a messy bun, put on a little lip-gloss and black eyeliner. I grabbed my keys, sunglasses, and purse, and headed downstairs.

Before I could place a fingerprint on the doorknob, someone yelled, “Where are you going?!”
Liz.
“Places.” I said, but it really meant none of your damn business.
“Well Adam called and asked if you wanted to go to the movies with him tonight.”
Adam’s, well, not your boyfriend type guy. He’s got really good looks, a smile to die for, and a killer body, but there’s a catch…he’s a cocky bastard. But he can be a really good friend, too. The reason I still hang out with him is because he wasn’t always like this, we were friends since grade school. He’s like my best-boyfriend next to my best-girlfriend, Natalie.
“Well if he calls while I’m gone, tell him to meet me up at the theaters at 9:00.”
With that, I walked out the door and to my Mercedes. I headed toward the mall to do some shopping with Natalie. Her and I are meeting in the food court, like we always do.
~*~
I walked into the mall and spotted Natalie. She was wearing a white, stylish skirt, with a light pink blouse that hugged her body with two little slits on the side and a white jacket. Her shoes were a light pink with a skinny heal. Her hair was in a ponytail. She was really fashionable like me.
“Loving the outfit!”
“Well thank you Miss Angel! Love yours too!” She laughed.
We cupped each others arms and told each other about both of our days yesterday.
