Fight Me

Chapter 2
Fight Me

The siblings looked at each other; one with hate in their eyes, the other with pity. Ashlyn lowered her sword slightly and closed her eyes as she played the coming battle through her mind. Their swords came together and they seemed to dance as brother and sister faught for their lives. The scene played over and over in her head until she caught the slightest of faults in her brother\'s movments. Aiden\'s sword caught in the sleeve of her robe in a wild attempt to block the blow that would surly end his life.

Ahlyn opened her eyes stood ready to fight and time resumed for her.

\"I\'m glad you remember me... Let\'s end this now!\" The words echoed and cracked with malice.

Aiden\'s sword was raised and they battled. It was like two fierce dragons, claws and teeth slashing at one another\'s flesh. Ashlyn saw her oppurtunity and lunged at her brother\'s heart, and as she had seen in her mind\'s eye, he swung wildly to block and missed. He was on the ground, bloodflowing from his mouth and the wound in his chest. His eyes closed in a sliient prayer that this would finally be the end. It wasn\'t.

Ashlyn knelt beside her brother and silently removed her bloodied sword from his chest. A flash of silver flashed and a knife sailed through the air, landing in her chest at the point her sword had just peirced her brother. Ashlyn\'s breath caught in her throught and she groaned as her life seeped away. Aiden, in his rage at still being alive had made an attempt to please his goddess and kill his sister. It had been a feeble attempt, but it was all he could do for release.

\"I\'m sorry, sister. Were you trying to kill me? I\'m afraid that\'s just not possable...You see, because you made me lose that child\'s soul those many years ago, my Mistress cursed me to live forever...No matter what I or anyone else does, I just can\'t die.\" Ashlyn\'s eyes finally fell on her brother. \"I was hoping that by killing you, Nisha would grant me death. I don\'t even need this priestess\' soul, though I suppose I could give it to Nisha as an offering...\" Aiden\'s words trailed off and he walked away, gathering the shadows back around him.

As Aiden walked away he couldn\'t help but wonder why Nisha had still blocked his death. Hadn\'t he done what he was supposed to? He faught his sister and assured her death... But why was he still here. He left his troubling thoughts and turned to happier ones. As long as he was in town, he might as visit his favorite brothle...

. . .

I closed my eyes and slowly removed the blade from my chest. What had he said about not being alowed to die? I couldn\'t think about it then; the pain was too over whelming and I fainted. A bright light in my face woke me. I don\'t know how loing I slept, but I knew I wasn\'t on the road anymore.

An old man\'s face sudden;y appeared in the light.

\"Ah, I see you\'re finally awake, child. Your wounds were so severe I was afraid you wouldn\'t make it, but they seem to be almost completly healed. It\'s quite miraculous...\" The man\'s voice was gravelly with age.

He was right, my wound had healed. My powers had come back...

The man looked at me concernedly.

\"There is no reason to be concerened old man, I\'ll be just fine. I thank you for your help, but I have to find my brother. A priestess\' soul is danger...\" My eyes were wild with rage at what my brother was doing. I had find him and free the poor womans soul...

\"A priestess, you say? Did you see waht happened?\" he seemed genuinly curious and worried at the same time.

\"I did. My brother killed her and bound her soul to him to take to Nisha. I have to find him!\" I stood up to leave an grabbed my gear.

\"Please, m\'Lady. I must you to sit down. There is information you must have befor you get involved with this...\" I sat back down to listen to what he had to say.

\"You see, that priestess was part of an evil cult bent on destroying this town. They gather young girls from the surrounding villages and teach them to hate their families and everyone they knew before they were taken to the shrine. That woman, and others like her, killed half the men in this village in the last War of Lasto. They control the capital with their mind powers!\" He finished in a high pitched voice.

I wasn\'t sure whether to beleive him or not, but I couldn\'t help but wonder what was really going on. I spent the next day gathering my strength before I finelly left the small cottage. What was to come was unexpected... A small child ran at me with fear and hate in her eyes. She was dressed like an acolyte in a shrine, but the colours belonged to some long forgotten god.

\"Stop there, demon!\" she yelled at me. \"You will not pass through this village unless you defeat me in battle! I know you ad something to do with the death of that priestess, and you won\'t get away with it!\"

This was the acolyte I saw running from the woods after Aiden killed the priestess. I didn\'t know what to do. I couldn\'t kill the girl, she was too young, but she coult hurt someone with that stupid sword she was flining about.

\"Alright then, child... Fight me if you wish, but you will die...\"
