Subchapter 2: Flashbacks...
(Flashback...)
\"Kai\'s crazy...What does he think he\'s doing...?\"
\"There goes that Tarshil...walkin\' up to D!? Is he insane..!?\" Kai heard the whispers as he walked up to the short-haired male, having him glare in response.
\"What do you want, kid? I\'m a busy man.\" Kai saw through his hollow eyes, his mask.
\"Do you like to be alone all the time?..\" D\'s eyes widened and Kai looked away with a blush. \"I\'m sorry..I didn\'t mean to--\"
\"What\'s your name, kid?\" Kai looked up and smiled nervously.
\"Kai. Kai Tarshil. What\'s yours?..\"
\"I thought the whole school knew my name by now.\"
\"I meant,\" Kai looked into the other male\'s eyes, \"Your real name.\" D smiled and nodded.
\"Devin.\"
They became friends almost right away, hanging out at the arcade; bookstores, shopping malls and at each other\'s houses. People; especially Kai\'s old bullies; left Kai alone when they saw him with Devin. Even the mere mention of D\'s name scared the biggest of jocks. Then came the night when everything changed.
They were running to Devin\'s house (it was closer) after school to get away from the rain. They ran in suddenly, laughing as Devin shut the door.
\"That was fun! We should do it again sometime!\" Kai smiled at Devin, then shivered slightly. Devin put the chain on the door then walked over to Kai, pulling him close as he shivered. Kai blushed, then looked up at Devin.
\"You never knew...\" Devin whispered, \"You went all this time hanging out with me, and you never guessed...\" Devin touched Kai\'s cheek slowly, smiling as Kai\'s blush deepened.
\"Y-you\'re talking in circles, Dev.\" He whispered, \"Tell me what\'s on your mind..\" Kai always spoke to Devin like that, usually playfully; when he was serious, however, Devin could never lie to Kai; he knew that. Devin pulled away and walked over to his balcony window.
\"I\'m gay, Kai. That\'s why the kids at school don\'t talk to me. That and there\'s the fact that I look like I could snap a few necks.\" Devin laughed bitterly as Kia stopped behind Devin and wrapped his arms around Devin\'s waist.
\"I don\'t care. Maybe it never occured to you, D, but I like hanging out with you.\" Kai\'s head rested on Devin\'s back. \"And did you ever think that maybe I care for you too?\"
Devin turned around and looked down at Kai for a few moments.
\"I could hurt you. Use you, destroy you and you still wouldn\'t care, would you? You would stay by my side, wouldn\'t you?\" Kai blushed and looked away. Devin smiled and grasped his chin, forcing Kai to look at him. \"Answer me.\" He whispered.
\"Yes. I want you, Devin...\" He whispered, his blush returning, \"And it\'s not only because I care for you. It\'s because I enjoy your company--your friendship.\" Kai smiled slowly, kissing Devin\'s cheek with a sigh. \"I\'m just so glad that it\'s all out in the open.\" Kai had been hiding it for months that he was attracted to Devin, and Devin had been doing the same to Kai. Devin nodded and leaned forward, kissing Kai\'s neck slowly. Kai tilted his head back, his lips opening, a sigh escaping his mouth happily.
Kai was content that this relationship, in its secrecy, would last a long time. And it did......
