Chapter 2

The next day we set off on our “vacation”. I woke up around 10:00 AM to Gabriel sitting in a chair next to the bed fast asleep. I woke him with a kiss, which he responded in surprise at first but then soon realized what was going on.

“Good morning love,” Gabriel said.

“Did you sleep in that chair all night?” I asked.

“No, only after you fell asleep.”

I looked at him hard and he must have read my mind.

“Don’t look at me like that! I wasn’t spying on you I felt you needed protection.”

“You could’ve slept in the living room. It’s not that far away.”

“It’s still to far away from you.”

“Awww, how sweet. I suppose you want breakfast?”

“That sounds wonderful. Can you cook?”

“Yes, as a matter of fact I can. Welcome to Chez de Bronwyn, what can I get you sir?”

“Steak and eggs hold the eggs and a glass of milk,” Gabriel said pulling me out of bed.

“Certainly sir. How would you like your steak?”

“Medium rare if you please,” Gabriel said as he followed me into the kitchen.

“Okay one order of steak and eggs hold the eggs and an order for a bowl of cereal,” I said making my way to the refrigerator to get a steak and the milk.

* * * *

“Mmmmm! This is really good. What did you do to it? What seasonings did you use?” Gabriel said after eating half of his food.

“It’s an old family secret so I can’t tell you.” I told him over my bowl of cereal.

“Keeping secrets already are we? Well I’ll keep something from you. I won’t describe what your family trade mark is.”

“Why should I care what the trademark looks like?”

“You have to be able to identify and describe it before the council so they will believe that you are the great great granddaughter of Maniel Ravenwolf and the great granddaughter of his son Lucien Ravenwolf. Shall I tell you what it looks like?”

“What’s this description going to cost me?” I asked with mock suspicion.

“Oh well, let me think. You’ve already let me stay in your home, you’ve fed me, And I going with you on your little getaway. What else is there left to ask for?” Gabriel said thoughtfully.

“Gee I can’t think of anything, but I’m sure you will,” I said with slight annoyance.

“Let me see. I know, how about you give me a kiss and then I tell you what you want to know.”

I was not in the mood for playing around. “Gabriel I’m not really in a playful attitude, so tell me or don’t. If the council awards me to Josh it’s going to be your fault and you will have to live with the guilt of ruining my life so tell me or ruin me it’s your choice.”

“You are definitely not a morning person are you love? Okay, it is a seated wolf howling at a jewel that represents the moon and…”

“A star off to the side.” I said dumbfounded.

“Yes,” Gabriel said. “ How did you know?”

“You were describing a pendant that I have. My grandfather willed it to me. It came with a letter saying that it was the only thing he had of his father’s and he wanted me to have it. He wrote that he felt I might need it. I think he knew about his father and that I would be like him.”
“You have a pendant? May I see it love? Will you go fetch it for me?”

“Only if you delete ‘fetch’ from your vocabulary when talking to me.” I said playfully.

“I will do as you ask, but only if given what I’m owed.” Gabriel said with a smile.

“And what is it that you are owed?”

“You never paid me for the description of the symbol. I’m still owed a kiss love. A kiss that I want, and want it now,” Gabriel said, his voice dripping with lust.

“Well you’ll just have to wait,” I said with a smile.

“Why?” Gabriel asked in confusion.

“You wont get any until we are legally married or pronounced mates.”

“We’re basically married now!” he said near exasperation.

“Basically is not are Gabriel. Not until we are married in my world or yours.”

“Bronwyn, it’s you’re world too, remember?”

“Oh sorry, I haven’t gotten use to it yet.”

“You had better,” He said with a smile. I knew I hadn’t upset him. We sat there in comfortable silence and finished both our breakfasts. After we did dishes I got Zeus’s food around, it was only then I noticed he wasn’t around and I didn’t recall seeing him.

“Gabriel, have you seen Zeus?” I asked.

“I let him out a little while before you woke up. Is every thing all right?”

“He should be back by now. I need to go look for him,” I said putting my shoes and coat on.

“I’m sure he’s fine sweetheart, you should get packed. We need to leave soon.”

“No, I have this really bad feeling. Something doesn’t feel right Gabriel. I need to go look for him, and I need to go right now,” I said hurrying toward the door. Gabriel caught me just before I reached the door.

“Okay, we’ll go look for him. Let me put my boots on real quick.”

As soon as we walk out the door I hear something rustle in the bushes bordering the driveway. Gabriel heard it too and is on full alert. He takes off towards the source of the sound and dives into the bushes. I lose sight of him but he soon emerges holding one of Steve’s cronies by the collar.

“Hey man, hands off the shirt. I just stole it yesterday,” the spy said.

“Hello Brian, why did Steve send you to my house?” I asked walking up to him.

“You know this delinquent Bronwyn?” asked Gabriel.

“Yes, as a matter of fact I do. He used to be one of my best friends, he’s actually the one who introduced Steve and I.”

“Those were good times Whinny you have to admit that,” Brian said nervously.

“That was along time ago Brian, now answer my question. Why did Steve send you here and where is my dog?” I asked glaring at him.

“Steve…Steve didn’t send me here,” Brian laughed nervously.

“Answer the lady,” Gabriel rumbled, adding a little shake to Brian’s collar.

“Okay, okay, please don’t hurt me,” Brian sobbed.

“You’ll only be hurt if you don’t answer her,” Gabriel said with another shake.

“Okay already, stop with the shaking. The dog’s in the shed out back, and he’s fine. You know I could never hurt Zeus, right Whinny?” Brian whimpered.

“How about we all go to the shed and check Zeus out together?” Gabriel suggested.

“Sounds good to me,” I said walking towards the shed out back. I could hear Gabriel dragging Brian along behind me. We reached the shed and I could hear whining and scratching at the door. I quickly opened the door and out bounces Zeus who is extremely happy to see me. He showed his appreciation by knocking me to the ground and licking me to death.

“Ha ha hey Zeus stop it. Get off me,” I laughed. Zeus let me up and sat at my side once I was standing again. “Now that I know Zeus is safe lets deal with my other question. Why did Steve send you here, and tell me the truth Brian.”

“I am telling you the truth Whinny. I came on my own; I left the gang after I heard what they tried to do to you. I came to see if you were okay, they didn’t say what happened, only that they attacked you. I put Zeus in the shed because I knew he’d bark and let you know I was here. I was just worried about you Whin, I swear that’s the only reason I’m here.”

I looked at Brian for a few moments and then Gabriel spoke up.

“Bronwyn sweet, are you okay?” he asked with worry.

“Let him go Gabriel, he’s telling the truth,” I said.

“Are you sure Love?”

“Yes, I’m sure.” I waited until Brian was released and set to rights before I spoke. “Brian, I’m really glad you where worried about me but you need to go home and not tell Steve a thing. You know how he gets, and if he knows about Gabriel and me the shit is going to hit the fan. Now go home, have some lunch, and stop worrying about me.” I leaned forward and gave Brian a peck on the cheek. “Goodbye Brian,” I said and walked into the house with Zeus padding behind me.
