Reminiscing of a forgotten emotion

Altair’s Obsession

Act 2: Reminiscing of a forgotten emotion

By morning of the next day the storm had moved out and the tiny town Altair was staying in was full of life and had a little busy side to it. As Altair walked down the street he sniggered under his breath. “Its kinda like Desengong in its old days. But everyone isn’t crazy yet.” He continued walking and knew if he had been in Desengong, the holy city of their world, and the people had seen him they would either want to purify him or the horny virgins would try to rip his clothes off knowing who he was and not being afraid of what he could do to them. He sighed. Why did he agree to stay there? Oh, right he had to watch over Atsushi, Sryn’s son. But Atsushi was practically a man know and could take care of himself or have the girl he loves yet afraid of do it for him. So why consider going back to that place? He thought. My hole in the ground is more comfortable than that crazy town.

He walked until he came to a vast, empty field. He must’ve been walking a few miles because the town was no longer seen behind him. “Well I guess I could rest a bit.” He said as he sat down under a large shady tree. At first he just sat and listened to the sound of the noises around him: birds singing and flying around, the wind gently blowing through the long blades of grass and the tree making it a rather peaceful spot. The wind also blew through his long raven hair. He took a lock of it in his hand “I don’t think I should’ve let it grow out this long. Maybe I should cut it again.”

He sat leaning against the tree with his eyes closed. This reminds me of the field back on the Third Continent and that time I scared the crap out of Tasogare. He thought back to where he and Tasogare were young. When he was about 8 and Tasogare about 9 or 10. It was a beautiful day like this one and in an even larger and lust field. It had only been a short time since they met one another and where becoming close friends. Tasogare laid sleeping peacefully under an old green tree. Altair came looking for him and found the little demon asleep. He looked so peaceful just lying there not doing anything so Altair just sat a while and watched him sleep. Altair noticed that for a boy Tasogare was in a way pretty; angelic almost. With his shinning cerulean hair, fair skin and when they were open Tasogare had the most beautiful eyes he had ever seen on anyone. Of course Tasogare was the first person he met after he was “born” and never saw anyone else that matched his appearance. But as he sat watching him sleep he didn’t watch but stared at the little angel. He couldn’t help it but he did. For a kid, Altair didn’t really understand why he was doing that. All he knew was as he continued to watch Tasogare, the more at peace and safe he felt. He soon crawled over to Tasogare and looked down at his face. He looked so…different asleep. Like it was his escape and he was calm just being asleep in his own little world. Altair wondered what Tasogare might be dreaming or of whom was he dreaming about. Or was he dreaming or having a nightmare. Or if he could even dream at all. With all these thoughts went through little Altair’s mind that he found himself staring even more at Tasogare. His eyes overlooked his face down to Tasogare’s lips. They looked like he had some sort of gloss or shiner on them. For an even longer time Altair stared at those lips. Something inside him, an emotion of some sort burned and grew inside him. It uncontrollably made his face move closer to Tasogare’s. Close enough until their noses almost touched. Altair noticed that Tasogare smelled like flowers, what kind he didn’t know but it smelled good. Altair finally realized what he was doing and leaned back up away from Tasogare slowly so not to wake him but about the time he started to back off Tasogare woke up and saw him and jumped up startled. Altair also jumped backed startled. “ What are you doing?!” Tasogare shouted. Altair caught his breath and said, “ I was just…uh…Trying to scare you.” Tasogare just sighed and stood up. “Well, don’t do it again especially while I’m sleeping.” Altair nodded his head and followed him back to Kei’s house, their adopted father’s house.

Altair opened his eyes and starred at the sky. The feeling he felt when he was a kid, just thinking of that time made him feel that way again. But what was it? Why did he feel such a strong attraction towards Tasogare like that? …Hey I was just a kid. Those emotions I felt were false. I was too young to understand what I was doing at the time…Yet why did my heart beat so fast that day? And now…He placed his hand over his chest. It’s beating at that same pace. And that pain is slowly starting to fade. Could it be that I…? He was silent for a long time. “Yeah right! As if!”

He walked back down the road towards the town with his hands behind his head. “What was I thinking? I can’t have those kind of emotions towards him. I mean come on. That’s not right…” He walked a little slower. “ I can’t…” He begins to reminisce again about it. “It’s not right …Me and Tasogare…We’re friends, best friends even.” He came to a complete stop and let his arms hang beside him. “It wouldn’t be right.”

“Some good things usually are.” A voice out of nowhere said. Altair looked around. “ Who’s there? Show yourself.” He demanded.

From behind a tree Kujaku came out. He was also a childhood friend of Tasogare’s. A demon that was once a slave known only as B6. His slate colored hair was cut to his shoulders and on top of his head was a horn signifying his demon blood heritage and of course reddish orange eyes. He was quite handsome if he was not so annoying Altair thought many times before.
Altair’s eyes widened and an exaggerated sweat drop went down the back of his head. “Y-y-y-you?! How long were you listening to me?” Kujaku shrugged and came out into the road. “About the time you were fantasizing about your so-called best friend.” He chuckled.

“What the hell is so frickin funny smartass?” Altair said trying to keep his temper under control.

“You.” Kujaku said coolly. “You’re so blind to your own emotions you can’t even figure out your own problems.”

“Nani?! Now you listen here. I don’t care if you’re the oldest demon in the world or if you more powerful than the Tasogare I know but just because you help people with their problems doesn’t mean that you can help me with mine!”

“Oh…so you admit you have a problem, eh?”

“…N-No.” Altair turned form him and crossed his arms. “I don’t have any problems that need solving. Especially by you.”

“I’m just trying to help a love sick demon. That’s my specialty is helping those in love.” Kujaku said with a smile.

“…”

“Ok, I see you don’t want to talk about it. I’ll just go then.” He started to leave. “But so you know, I don’t think its wrong for you to have those kind of feelings for him.” Kujaku turned and began to walk away.

“Wait,” Altair said and Kujaku did. “Why do you think it would be ok if I did have those emotions for him?”

Kujaku smiled but didn’t turn around. “Because you and him are very similar. I’m surprised you two didn’t end up together in the first place. Even though you were born at different times and you have different outlooks on things and life and love, your souls could be one in the same with one another.”

“……”

“And besides,” He said as he started to walk off. “They say that if you start off best friends then you’ll have a very good relationship if you end up together.” He continued to walk on until he vanished.

Altair stood there thinking on Kujaku’s words. Is it true? Could those bottled up emotions for Tasogare causing this pain inside me? If I were to let them out and tell Tasogare how I feel…He’ll never want to see or be around me again…

He looked back up at the sky. “I think things just got worse.” He sighed and slumped down. “What have I gotten myself into?”
