Jack had answered the door and was staring at the men, his green eyes glinting dangerously as he slaps away the hand reaching out for Sarah and opens his mouth to yell abuse but his mother\'s hand at his shoulder silences him, and he clenches his jaw, his hands curled into fists ready to start throwing punches, his green eyes glaring.

As the men burst in to the room, Sarah had backed herself up against the kitchen wall behind her, Brock had jumped up and stood in front of her. But now she poked her head arond him to look at her mother and the strange men. Her soft voice breaking the strained silence \"Why me?\" Her eyes look from one man to the other, and then to the faces of her family, Jack, her mother, and then finally Brock. When no one spoke, she stepped out from behind her brother and asked again \"Why me?!\" this time her voice was louder and it echoed off the walls of the small kitchen.

The Elder was expecting this kind of behavior... This may take a while, time is being wasted that cannot be afforded! The Elder would let his hand be swatted away by the defiant brother, however, as he does the two guards with the Elder step forward, hands upon the hilts of their swords ready for blood... But, in a quick motion, the Elder moves his arms to either side of him, blocking the guards,

\"No!..\" He shouts to one... Then turns his head to the other, \"No...\" His arms then lower slowly as he would hear the voice of the chosen. Hesitating a moment as he looks to her beauty, knowing it to be wasted to a follow and loathsome creature. Quiet green eyes regard her as she speaks once more and he would shake his head softly,

\"It is not a fair choice... When one can not have the choice to be prepared for what fate has set in motion...\" He speaks, looking to the young lady but seeming to regard all those in the room. He stays standing as he is, letting moments pass before he speaks once more,

\"You... Dear child, have been chosen as the sacrifice because of the time of your birth... As according to the ancient manner of sacrifice a Virgin youth of the age of fifteen must be the selected... You, are the only one within the village that fits such requirements.\" Grim is the tone that the Elder uses...

\"But worry not... For your life will be given in turn to secure the life of this village and also everyone within it... Your family, as a pitiful show of gratitude for their grievance will be void of taxes and given acres of new land as well as servants.\" The Elder would cast his gaze to the brothers and the mother of the child before again looking to her,

\"I know this is hard upon all of you... But time is short, the Dragon will attack soon... We must prepare today.\"

Sarah\'s jaw dropped at the reason as to why it was to be her fate to be sent to the peril of the dragon. She quickly wracked her brain to try and think of any other 15 year old girls in the village. But as the Elder had stated, she was the only one, and she bowed her head, defeated. *Well...if this is going to save the village....I\'ll be remembered as a hero!* She reasons to herself *....But I don\'t want to die!* She lifts her head up as the Elder starts talking again about what her family would recieve for her sacrifice and her jaw drops once again. *Acreage? And servants? Wow...* She looks to her mother, expecting her to be happy about what they would recieve but insted she sees her mother\'s face contorted in anger

\"How could you think that Land and servants could take the place of my daughter?!\" She practically screams at the Elder \"That is an insult to this family, and we won\'t accecpt it!\" she states firmly, turning her back on him.

Sarah\'s blue eyes full of confusion looks to all of the faces in the room. Her mother looked as if she was ready to fall over, tears running down her cheeks. Brock also looked confused, he wasn\'t sure whether he should go to his mother\'s side and comfort her, or start pushing the Elder and gaurds out of the house. While Jack, his green eyes were dark with anger, and his body was shaking slightly with his barely controlled anger. Next her eyes fell to the sad ones of the Elder, with his shoulders drooped forward, almost as if he was shamed. She could see that he didn\'t want to do this any more than they did, he just had no choice.

No one spoke and the silence was stetched out through the tense room. Sarah swallowed hard, her thoughts buzzing through her head, I don\'t want to leave my family, my home...but I can\'t not go to save the village...save the people from this destruction when no one else can help... With these thoughts, she steps forward again, now standing in the middle of the small kitchen. \"I- I\'ll go...\"

Oddly, yet, conveniently enough, a massive sound echo\'s through the mountain valley that the village is situated on. A deep a guttural roar, causing nearby birds to take flight, farm animals to start neighing or mooing uneasily and trotting quickly to their respective homes. Surprisingly enough, the roar is almost deafening, making the house that the people are in shake to it\'s foundations. The Elder, as well as the guards would have grasped their ears shut, though, the guards would have ran outside, hands to their sword hilts. The roar would cease, though, it\'s voice could be heard traveling down the mountain... The Elder would slowly move his hands from his ears, looking to each of the family members for some time before speaking,

\"...I\'ll be outside...\" He says, doing so as he exits the building.

The ear piercing screech only made Sarah\'s resolve to willingly be sacrificed to the dragon even stronger, now that it seemed like it was ready for another attack. With watery eyes, she turned to her mother. Their eyes met, and no words were spoken as they embraced each other, tears falling down their cheeks. After a moment, Sarah pulled away and wiped her eyes with the back of her hand \"I love you, mum...\" her voice broke on the last word, and she quickly turned to Brock and he wrapped her up in his arms, tears forming in his eyes. \"Are you sure you want to do this Sarah?\" he whispered in her ear. Sarah looked up, her face wet and more tears still running down her cheeks and she nodded her head, unable to speak due to the lump down threatening to suffocate her in her throat. She opened her mouth, swallowing the bulk of the lump to whisper \"I\'ll miss you...Be good okay?\" and leaned up on tip-toes and planted a wet kiss on his cheek.

Turning around, she took one look at Jack, and started to cry even harder as he came to her and wrapped his arms around her, and she buried her head in the crook of his shoulder. \"You don\'t have to do this!\" his voice was soft, as he was trying hard not to cry or let his emotions get the better of him. Pulling away slightly, she sniffed and wiped her red puffy eyes with the back of her hand again and tried not to chock on the words that she knew she had to say \"Y-yes....I d-do...and y-you know I-I do...\" as she spoke she was looking him in the eye and her words broke his resolve and he quickly kissed her on the tip of her nose and nodded before letting her go and running from the house.

Sarah watched him go, Her heart ready to break at the sad looks on the faces of her family and took once last look around the house that she grew up in, savouring the memory, and remembering all her happy ones as she turned, head held high and walked out the door to meet the Elder and his guards.
