Chapter 2

-2-

Vivianna ran the last block to the college. She bounded up the stairs and walked swiftly through the halls. She came upon her classroom and looked in through the window in the door. Inside was that same man, the man who was definitely not her professor. His sexy ass had been substituting for the past four weeks. He was standing in front of the class lecturing with lazy arrogance. Vivianna’s heart skipped a beat as his eyes scanned the room and noticed her in the window. He raised a dark eyebrow and continued to lecture the class.

Vivianna leaned away from the window and pressed her back against the door.

You’re on a mission, she thought once again and everytime she saw the twenty-something substitute, Arden. She shivered as she remembered how he introduced himself to the class. “I’m Arden. I will be substituting for…” and he continued because Vivianna saw his lips move but she wasn’t sure what he said. Vivianna had been way too busy checking out… everything. He stood in front of the class with his green eyes and sexy smile. She had melted when he turned to write on the board. She really was an ass girl.

You’re on a mission, she reminded herself again. A mission, no romances on the job, Vivianna thought as she moved to take another peek at Arden through the window. He immediately turned his eyes in her direction, his eyes locked with hers for a moment. He smiled a sexy, mocking smile as if he knew exactly what kinds of sinful thoughts were filling her mind.

Shit, caught twice, Vivianna thought as she walked away from the door. She entered the woman’s bathroom and checked underneath the three stalls, and they were empty. She walked back to the door, locked it, and returned to the mirror that was above the sinks. Her face was heart-shaped with deep blue eyes that were framed with long dark lashes. She had a small delicate chin and long black hair curled around her shoulders. Pretty with the Snow White thing going on. She tossed her ebony hair back and stared down at the sink.

You are the highest paid agent in the Corp you can’t be falling for your substitute! Vivianna turned on the facet and filled her hands with cold water. She splashed it onto her face and looked at her reflection once again. I’m also just a woman.

Furious with her thoughts Vivianna pulled the paper towels out of the dispenser and scrubbed her face dry. She pulled her leather backpack off of her shoulder and began rummaging through it.

She pulled out a hazel pencil stick and pulled the cover off. She attacked her eyes with a will as she underlined her eyes and shadowed them. She added a slight dark tan shimmer that added sultriness. Next, she applied light mascara and a rosy, glistening gloss to her full lips. Dabbing two spots of perfume on her wrists and behind her ears she was ready to see him.
“I’m still just a woman,” she said to reassure herself and headed out of the bathroom.

Turning the corner she saw the class walking out of the room. She waited for the last person to exit before stepping inside.
Arden was standing the middle of the room collecting a stack of papers and shuffling them into order.

“Nice of you to show, Vivianna,” Arden spoke without turning around.

“Yes, well,” Vivianna began but was cut off with a sharp gesture from Arden.

“Come into the office.” Arden turned on his heel and strode out of the classroom making Vivianna struggle to keep up with his long strides. They came to the room and unlocked the door he then pushed it in and motioned her in before him. She stepped inside and he flicked on the lights. Vivianna quickly took a seat in one of the two chairs.

“Professor Vanikin will not be returning,” Arden began as he sat down across from her. “He is terminally ill and is unable to continued teaching. I,” Arden looked into Vivianna’s eyes, “will be lecturing from now on. And you,” Arden leaned back in his chair. “Need to be in class.”

“Yes, I know,” Vivianna whispered. She looked up at him through lowered lashes.

“I saw you in the window,” he whispered leaning across the desk and folded his hands in front of him. They were visibly shaking and Vivianna wondered why.

“I… I was going to go in but…”

“Twice. You were in the window twice. Why? Once you saw that you were going to be late, why didn’t you leave? Or just come in? Instead you waited outside the door and peeked in again. Why?” Arden asked again and waited for Vivianna’s answer.
“You,” Vivianna cringed and berated herself for speaking without thinking.

“What?” Arden was clearly shocked at her answer. He sat back and leaned in his chair.

Vivianna opened her mouth to explain more but she didn’t know where to begin. So, instead, she opened up her backpack and pulled out a scrap piece of paper and a pen. She wrote down her address on it and nine o’clock sharp.

“I want you,” she whispered in a husky voice, a wanting voice. His mouth opened and Vivianna pressed the piece of paper into his hand.

Vivianna stood up quickly and walked out of the office. She continued down the hall with a confident stride… until she turned the corner and sagged against the wall.

I’ve never done anything like that before, Vivianna could feel the adrenaline coursing through her body. A bigger rush than the heist nights!

She giggled and walked out the door to get ready for her big night.
