Familiar Rejection
"Familiar Rejection"
The call was finished but still Tony had the phone to his ear. The dial tone sounded but still he ignored it. His eyes began to water and he dropped the phone, breaking it and scattering pieces across the floor. Tony began to cry, but still he refused to move. He turned in place and walked out of his kitchen. He walked to his parents wooden liquor cabinet and stared into his reflection in the glass door. He raised his left hand, now in the form of a fist and struck out at the glass door. The glass shattered and the pieces fell to the floor. Tony drew back his hand and stared at it. The glass hand embedded itself into his knuckles. The glass pieces stuck out of his knuckles in odd angles and blood began to run down his hand.
The incident kept playing in Tony's head " I can't pass this up son, this job is more important to me than anything." His father had paused for a moment and than continued. " I mean you can visit some other, you understand don't you?" Whatever joy he had felt was now gone replaced by the familiar sense of rejection he had felt his entire life. " I understand ... Dad." The phone had went dead after he had said that. Tony now realized that he was in front of his parents liquor cabinet with his hand bleeding. He reached into the cabinet with his right hand and removed a bottle of whiskey. He walked to his room and closed the door behind him. His hand had left a trail of blood throughout the house on its white carpet. He set down the bottle of whiskey on the dirty television table and went to his closet. From one of the shelf\'s he removed a bottle of pills. " There\'s no one here to save me this time." he said as he looked at the bottle.
Tony was now in a bathroom, he could see himself on the floor an empty bottle of sleeping pills next to him. He could remembered seeing himself in the mirror as his vision began to blur, he looked into his own eyes and was ready to die. He remembered his father had come home early and found him on the bathroom floor. " The fates had step in and saved me that day, but not today, not this time." He grabbed the bottle of whiskey from the table and sat down against his door. Tony looked down at his left had and all the glass that was now inside of it. He set down the two bottles on the floor next to him and began to remove the pieces of glass. He could feel each of the pieces slide out of his hand as he removed them. With each piece removed, blood began to run more freely down his hand. He removed the last piece of glass and let his hand fall to his side.
Tony knew that his left hand was now useless, but that no longer mattered. He reached for the bottle of whiskey and opened it. He took a drink and put it down. " Why doesn't he love? Why must he reject me?" Tears began to run down his face. " Why doesn't anyone love me?" he reached for the bottle of sleeping pills and opened them. He poured a handful into his hand and put them in his mouth. He grabbed the bottle of whiskey and took an drink, coughing some of it up as he choked on the pills as they went down hi throat. " All I ever wanted from him is acceptance and love, its al I ever wanted from anyone." Tony was crying as he said these words and took down another handful of pills and whiskey.
"Was it really so much to ask as to be loved by my father, to have him want to be with me? Is it to much to ask from anyone?" Tony's vision began to blur and he knocked down the bottle of whiskey. The whiskey began to pour out onto his carpet. He slide down the side of the door and was now laying on the carpet, crying. "Why do so many others get to experience love an acceptance while I go unnoticed by all?" Tony could no longer see straight and was beginning to black out. " This time I will die and finally be able to find some peace, finally I can find some sense of the happiness I have been so wrongfully denied." Tony's eyes closed as the darkness came to claim him.
