Chapter 2
“Damn it Jenn, do you have any idea how much shit you just started?”
“I’m sorry, I-I lost control,” Jenn replies trying to wipe the blood off her clawed hands,
“And you killed a hunter, now more will come seeking retribution,”
“A hunter? Are you sure?” Jenn asks praying that he’s wrong, the other werewolf steps next to the tattered corpse; he sifts through the torn leather and pulls out a desert eagle .50, with a flick of his thumb the magazine ejects into his waiting palm, he glances at the bullets and shows them to Jenn,
“Silver,”
“Oh, Goddess, I’m sorry Aaron,” Jenn says dropping to her knees in the snow, “I’ve gotten us all killed,” tears begin forming in her large amber eyes,
“We’ve survived for centuries, I doubt a few extra hunters will change that, they will just make things difficult for a while but we will have to move our meeting place, at least for now,” Aaron explains to her, “We should tell the others, come” Aaron walks back into the forest, Jenn follows him slowly.
They come to a clearing within the woods, there are six other werewolves waiting for Aaron and Jenn’s return,
“I see the pup has gotten her wits about her now,” a black furred female scoffs,
“Now is not the time Danica, Jenn encountered a hunter,” Aaron says impassively,
“Don’t tell me he saw her,” Danica says snarling at the juvenile werewolf,
“She killed him,” Aaron says coolly, Jenn lowers her head in both shame and trepidation, the other wolves groan in distaste,
“You stupid bitch, now do you see what happens if you don’t master your beast?” Danica rebukes Jenn,
“That’s enough Danica!” Aaron barks at her, “I remember a time when you had difficulty controlling your beast as well,”
Danica snorts and crosses her arms over her chest in distaste,
“What’s a hunter?” Connor, another juvenile wolf, asks raising his hand as if he were in school,
“They are a group of humans set on wiping us out,” Kellen, an older male answers, “She must have caught him by surprise or we’d be one less member tonight,”
Jenn lowers her head and takes a step closer to Aaron, hoping for him to comfort her broken ego,
“I know that we only just came upon this meeting place recently but now that one hunter has come here and been killed others will soon follow, not to mention the police, we are no longer safe in this park so we will have to find a safe place to meet, but in the meantime we will meet at my home, it’s the largest, and has a forest nearby where we can feed if need be.” Aaron says to the rest of the pack, they all mutter to one another making a decision,
“Alright, we will meet at your home until we can find a new meeting place,” Loki, the beta male of the pack says to Aaron,
“We will have to part ways as of now, there was a witness and she has undoubtedly called the authorities by now, I want you all to go to your homes and call me when you arrive so I know you’re safe, for all we know that hunter wasn’t alone,” the pack nods in agreement and they begin departing from the clearing, “Not you Jenn, you’re coming with me,”
“Huh? Why?” Jenn asks, her heart flutters with the possible reasons,
“You’re going to learn to control your beast and I’m going to teach you,”
“Alright,” Jenn breathes, images of Aaron mounting her and making her his mate dance through her head, as she follows Aaron back to the parking lot. Aaron stops when they come near the parking lot,
“I smell gun oil,” Aaron whispers to Jenn, and sniffs the air again, “But no humans,” he adds, Jenn presses herself against him as her eyes search through the woods, she closes her eyes and begins sniffing herself, she’s never smelled gun oil before so she doesn’t know what smell to be searching for, her ears catch the sound of a bolt action rifle cock, and just as soon as the sound reaches her ears she finds herself pushed to the ground and Aaron is gone, a man’s scream pierces the night followed by a loud crack, Jenn scrambles to her feet and chases the sound, she sees Aaron standing over a man in white, grey and brown camouflage, the camouflage loses it’s stealth as his torn throat pumps blood down the front of it.
Aaron is holding the half of the rifle in each hand, she had thought the sound might have been a gunshot but it was the gun being broken in two. “I thought there might be another hunter somewhere,” Aaron kneels over the twitching corpse and rifles through his pockets he pulls out a small vial, he removes the cap and sniffs the clear liquid, there is no odor.
“Come Jenn, let’s leave; there may be more hunters around.” Aaron leads Jenn back to the parking lot, they shift back to their human forms before they exit the woods.
“Jeezus it’s cold,” Jenn says standing shin deep in a snow drift completely naked,
“Hurry get in the car before we freeze,” Aaron grabs a magnetic hide-a-key from under the wheel well and unlocks the door, Jenn hops from one foot to the other waiting for him to unlock the door for her. Aaron grabs a bag from the back seat and pulls out some clothes, Jenn yelps as she sits on the cold leather seat, Aaron hands Jenn a pair of grey sweat pants and a thick wool Christmas sweater, Aaron puts on a green sweatshirt with a big wolf’s head on the front, that is a size and a half too small for him, followed by a matching pair of sweatpants. Aaron starts the car and turns the heater to full
“I don’t think my nipples will ever be soft again,” Aaron chuckles and sits back letting the car warm up. Jenn looks at her fingernails, there is dried blood embedded underneath them, she uses her teeth to clean them unconsciously, after the second nail she stops herself and wipes her tongue on the arm of the sweater in disgust.
“That’s why you can’t control your beast Jenn, you still haven’t embraced it,” Jenn turns her bright green eyes to Aaron, he is staring out the windshield into the woods, she turns her eyes to the floor,
“I’m scared to, every time I shift, I feel like I’m losing my humanity, that I’m becoming a monster,” Aaron puts the car in gear, backs up and turns to leave the park,
“Is that how you see me? Just a monster?” Aaron says coldly,
“No! You’re…” Jenn trails off, “I- it’s just how I feel, I’m allowed to feel aren’t I?”
“Well if you don’t think I’m a monster then what makes you think you will be?” Jenn stares out the window, stubbornly ignoring Aaron and occasionally thinking about what he said.
“I’m sorry, I-I lost control,” Jenn replies trying to wipe the blood off her clawed hands,
