Continuing the mission

He went back to the door he had entered through, closed it, and then locked it. It was unlikely that all the inmates would leave right away, so he decided to wait for about half an hour to give the inmates time to leave. This would mean that there less to that he would have to deal with. His employer had made it clear that he could kill some of the lunatics, provided that he left at least twenty to escape. This was to distract the police when they investigated what happened. The Agent presumed that he would end up killing several, but twenty should have escaped by the time he went back out into the asylum, so restraint wasn’t going to be an issue.

He went back to the guard’s chair, sat back, and began to read the pulp novel the guard had been engrossed in when The Agent killed him. After about ten minutes, someone attempted to open the door, but gave up. He waited for slightly longer than half an hour, then decided he had taken long enough, and cautiously pushed open the door.

He slowly walked out, looking around for inmates or any guards he may have missed earlier. He walked past the penultimate guard he had killed, then stopped. He looked back, and saw that half of the man’s face had been torn off, even his skull, revealing the brain beneath. What made the scene worse was that all over the brain were small arcs of dents, which were certainly teeth marks. He looked around the room, but saw nothing else unusual. He walked though the door at the end of the room and stopped.

He saw the cause of the horrific mutilation on the corpse. Ahead of him was a woman squatting over the body of a fallen guard. Her face would probably once have been attractive, but it was covered with scars – which were probably self-inflicted – as well as blood and bits of flesh. She sunk her fingers down the side of the guard’s eye socket, pulled out the eye, and swallowed it whole. She then set about peeling off strips of skin and devoured them hungrily as if they were strips of bacon.

The Agent crept backwards to get away from the deranged woman, to rethink about how to proceed, but in doing so, stepped on shards of a light bulb, which had been removed from its socket and thrown to the floor. He inadvertently crushed it with his heel.

The woman looked up at the sound and growled through bared teeth. She stood up slowly, and The Agent saw that the open cuts and scars which lined her face continued down her body as well. She was completely naked, wearing only the guard’s blood and chunks of his skin. She ran towards him, her feet slapping on the ground, the blood splashing up. As she got nearer, The Agent began to feel fear. She was completely insane, and therefore impossible to predict, so there was no way to outsmart her. He quickly realised brute force was the answer.

When she was just in front of him, he brought his knee up into her chest, causing her to double over, her breath forced from her body. He pulled out his machete from his belt, and drove it into her belly with enough force for it to go through her body and come out through her back. She staggered backwards, and The Agent swiftly drew his pistol from the holster, held it beneath her chin, and pulled the trigger. The back of her head exploded outwards, spraying blood, brain, and bone from the hole, landing on the wall and floor. She slumped backwards, bounced slightly when she hit the floor, then laid still.
