Wicked Game
Chapter Two

The sun was just starting to set over the horizon as the threatening dark grey stormclouds rolled into view with promises of rain for the farmers and the crop fields. The scent of the coming autumn hung in the cool evening air. But autumn wasn\'t the only scent that could be caught. There was something else, something more defined.

Piercing green eyes dart about the forest and up through the tree\'s as their owner followed the now familiar scent. A light sneer graced pale lips as another scent was carried in on the breeze that blew through the leafy tree\'s. And with a bolt of energy was running through the forest, weaving in and out of the brush with gracefull agility.

Chase had only stopped once at the fork in the forest path, before going left and sprinting off towards the deeper part of the wooded area. Before he had time to stop, Chase was hoisted up into the air in a mess of tangled net. He cried out as he grasped a piece of the netting in front of him, quickly pulling back his hands.

\"I\'d becarefull of where I\'d touch if I were you.\" said a voice as it echoed through the emptiness. \"That netting has been doused with Holy water, which I\'m sure your familiar with. Most of it dried on the way here, but as you can see, some of it still remains.\" Said the voice as it came closer.

Chase sneered as the owner of the voice stepped forward. \"Who be you, human.\" He snarled. He pulled at the net, trying vainly to break it free from the tree it was hanging from. When the man didn\'t answer he growled and narrowed his green eyes at him.

\"The name is Wolfe, not that it\'s any concern to you.\" He said as he stood near the net and placed his hands behind his back leisurely. Chase grinned ferally \"No fair, that\'s my job.\" He said in an amused tone. And in a flash the grin turned to a snarl as Chase thrust his arms through the holes of the net and made a grab at Wolfe, his voice filled with rage.

\"Where is he!! I know he\'s here!\" He screamed as he barely missed Wolfe\'s jacket. Wolfe just smiled \"Where\'s who? I don\'t know what you mean\" He said innocently.

Chase growled deeply as he started to gnaw on the net. He stopped only to yell again. \"The boy! I want him back! He\'s mine! Give him to me! I know he\'s here!\"

Wolfe smirked. \"Do you now, and how would you possibly know that.\" He said as he pulled out a cloth from his back pocket and tucked it in his hand.

\"I can smell him.\" Chase hissed, bearing his fangs as he spoke. \"I want him back. Now.\" He said, in a dangerously low tone.

\"Oh I see. So you must be the one who sired him. Yes, I thought so. But unfortunately he\'s not here right now. I\'d know. Believe me.\"

Chase glared at Wolfe as he sunk down towards the bottom of the net as though he were prepared to attack. \"You lie!\" He shouted \"How can I smell him then!?\"

\"Oh yes, well that must be from this.\" Wolfe said as he brought out the small square of white cloth. \"Why .. this must of belonged to him.\" He said as he waved it back and forth.

Chase immediately made a grab for it but missed when Wolfe pulled it back. \"Give it to me! I want it! Give it!\" Chase screamed as he tried vainly to reach the scrap of cloth. \"It\'s mine! I want it! Now! Please give it to me!\" He said, whinning a little now.

Wolfe smirked and tossed the cloth into the air. Chase caught it before it fell to far and quickly pulled it into the little space provided by the net. He looked at it and then brought it to his face and sniffed it, inhaling the boy\'s scent. He rubbed it against his cheek affectionately and then darted his tongue out, licking the cloth a few times before cradling it against his chest, petting it and purring softly.

Wolfe rolled his eyes at this and shook his head. \'Yep, he\'s definitely the one\' He thought to himself. He watched the vampire coddle the clothe and thought it looked rather ridiculous. He was supposed to be a vicious creature, not a purring kitten.

Chase looked over at Wolfe and narrowed his eyes. He stuffed the cloth into his pocket and turned to face him. He grinned at him in quite a disturbing manner. \"You ought to be more carefull human.\" He said, drawing out the last few words. \"For if you are not, I\'ll end up wearing your intestines like a bow tie\" He hissed.

Wolfe just stood there and smiled. \"I\'m not afraid of you. I kill your kind for a living. Lets not forget.\"

\"As do I little one, as do I\" He said coldly. \"Lets play a game!\" He grinned childishly. \"I\'ll start!\" Chase then held up his his hand, now balled into a fist, against the netting. \"This little piggy went to the market\" He said, bringing up his index finger, the nail now sharp as a tack. \"This little piggy stayed home\" He said, bringing up another finger. \"This little piggy had roast beef\" And another \"This little piggy had none\" He said sadly, bringing up another. \"And this little piggy should of listened to his master!\" He screamed as he sliced the netting in one stroke.

Wolfe stepped back as Chase dropped to the ground, but had no time to run before the vampire lunged and tackled him to the ground. Pinned beneath the creature, he could only stare up at the pale face with the maniacal grin.

\"Scared be the human that played games with me. Yes?\" He said as he leaned down. \"I want him. Now. If I don\'t get him, I will be sorely displeased. And we wouldn\'t want that, now would we?\" He said softly.

Wolfe shook his head lightly. \"I -was- going to take you to him you know. You could of been more patient\" He said, risking the chance the vampire could kill him at this very moment.

\"Patience? I think you\'re underestimating me wolfchild.\" He said as he dug a nail into the man\'s neck. He grinned cruelly as Wolfe flinched at the pain. \"You\'d do well to fear me now as if I were angry. Because you wouldn\'t want that. I can be most cruel if I\'m angry. So don\'t piss me off. Okay?\" He said, tilting his head to the side. He frowned when Wolfe didn\'t answer right away and promptly dug further into his neck. \"Okay!?\"

\"Ahh! Yes! Alright! Just get the fuck off me!\" He said as he pushed Chase off of him and scampered backwards \"You crazy blood sucking leech!\"

\"Now now did we not just have this conversation?\" He said as creeped forward in a predatorial manner. Wolfe put up his hands in defense. \"Hey hey, I did say I\'d take you to him, didn\'t I!?\" He said, almost in a panicked tone.

Chase looked thoughtfull for a moment. \"So you did ... but are we moving yet?\" He grinned. Wolfe quickly got to his feet and brushed himself off. \"Just follow me\" He mumbled as he turned around and walked towards the caves that led to the mansion. He looked back every now and again to make sure that the vampire was still there. He was but was more caught up in snuggling the cloth and muttering softly to it.

After a about an hour\'s walk, Wolfe looked back behind him to check on his undead guest. He blinked a few times when he noticed Chase wasn\'t there anymore. \"What the fuck!?\" He said aloud as he looked around where he stood. He sighed heavily and turned back around, only to jump back in surprise.

\"I\'m hungry\" Chase said as he gnawed on the end of the white cloth. Wolfe stood there and stared at the vampire in a mix of annoyance and disbelief. \"Well I don\'t know what you expect me to do about. And your certainly not biting me.\" He added quickly.

Chase frowned and sighed to himself as he walked off into the woods, away from the path they were taking. Wolfe, being the ever curious one of the Hunters, decided to follow him. Not only did he want to see how they fed, but to keep an eye on him. He didn\'t want to go through all that again.

In the middle of a clearing Chase had stopped. He tucked the cloth into his pocket and looked around, narrowing his eyes at his surrounding. He lifted his head and sniffed the air a bit before darting off in another direction. Wolfe practically had to run just to keep up. When he finally came to a stop, he found Chase knelt on the ground cooing softly to himself. Or what he thought was himself. Upon a closer look it turned out he had caught some sort of wild animal, but couldn\'t make it out from his position.

Chase smirked at the animal, which was some sort of lion that had come down from the moutains. It wasn\'t all that large but would normally put up a good fight against a normal human. He held it by the scruff of the neck and pulled its head back, exposing the neck. He moved a bit, only to give Wolfe a clear view of what he was about to do. He may be crazy, but he\'s not stupid.

Wolfe watched Chase, almost entranced by what he was witnessing. And then he winced. Chase bent his head down and bit fiercly into the animal and ripped out part of it\'s flesh and spitting it off to the side. He dipped his head and turned towards Wolfe, giving him a cruel smirk before turning back and diving in, drinking deeply from the animal. The lion squirmed and thrashed around, but Chase was too strong and held it firmly in place.

Once he was done he stood up and turned to face Wolfe. Wide eyed, Wolfe stumbled back against a tree and suddenly felt as trapt as the now dead lion. Chase moved to stand in front of him, mere inches from his face. \"Did you like what you saw wolfchild?\" He said coldly, blood dripping down his chin and lips. His tongue darted out and licked the blood from his lips. \"Was it everything you thought it\'d be?\" He said as he wiped his mouth with the palm of his hand. He waited for Wolfe to answer and then laughed when all he could do was stand there. \"I\'ll take that as a no.\" He said as he patted Wolfe\'s cheek with his bloody hand. \"Come, I want what\'s mine.\" He said as he started back towards the original path.

After a few moments Wolfe shook his head and quickly wiped the animal blood from his face with his sleeve and started after Chase, vowing to never do something so stupid as that again.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For a long while neither one of them had spoken. In polite conversation or what had happened no more than an hour before. But the image was forever stained in Wolfe\'s mind. He wasn\'t sure what to think, but his mind never swayed from the plan to bring the vampire in.

Chase had kept up his pace with the hunter, only a few feet behind him. Hands shoved inside his pockets, playing with the cloth that lie there, he quickened his pace and walked next to Wolfe. He stayed quiet for a moment or two, both walking in step with the other.

\"You\'ve brought others?\" He said, breaking the long silence.

Wolfe glanced over and nodded \"Yeah, low class hunters. A higher ranking one can\'t leave without at least two unless otherwise sepcified.\"

Chase smirked at this \"Don\'t like being watched do you?\" An amused tone played in his voice as he spoke.

\"Not particularly, no.\" He said shortly, wondering why the leech was even speaking to him in the first place. He hadn\'t minded the silence. Sort of.

\"Neither do I.\" And with that Chase darted off ahead of Wolfe in the direction of the other hunters, cackling gleefully \"Here piggy piggy piggy\"

\"Son of a ..\" He sweared to himself before taking off after him, knowing he wouldn\'t be able to catch him before he did anything, but tried none the less.

By the time Wolfe had gotten to where he had left the two hunters, there was nothing left of them. He blanched at the site. It wasn\'t as if he\'d never seen a massacre such as this, it was just unexpected. He looked around at the bloody mass and wasn\'t sure where one hunter ended and the other began.

He waded through the blood and body parts, kicking a lone hand out of the way as he walked. He looked around and suddenly a question popped into his mind. \'Where the hell are their-\'

\"Oh look! Mr. High\'n mighty Hunter decided to join us!\"

Wolfe turned towards the voice, which was unmistakably Chase\'s. He was about to reply when his words were halted from what he saw. He honestly couldn\'t believe it. He wasn\'t sure if he should be amused or sickened to the point of passing out with as much as he had seen already.

Chase sat there on a large rock. He grinned playfully and held up his right hand, which held none other than a Hunter\'s head. Presumably one of the two that he had killed. He had his hand inside the head it\'self and started to move it\'s mouth as he spoke.

\"Well hello there Wolfe! Do you want to play with us!\" He said in a high pitched voice, moving the hunter\'s mouth as he spoke. He then brought up his left hand, which held the other hunter\'s head and did the same with that one as well. \"Oh yes Mr Wolfe! Play with us!\"

Wolfe stood there in disbelief at what the vampire was doing. He wasn\'t even sure how he could do it in the first place and didn\'t really want to find out. All he could do was stare. Each head mounted on the hands of the vampire as if it were some child\'s toy. Blood dripping freely down his arms, the spinal cord flailing around as he moved the heads when they \"spoke\", nerve endings still twitching as they slowly died. Their eyes, filled with terror eventually rolled up into their head as Chase cackled and played like a child with a puppet.

Chase looked to each of the heads and back to Wolfe. He frowned and looked back to the head on his left. \"I don\'t think he wants to play with us Hunter #1. What do you think?\" He bobbed the head around and moved it\'s mouth as he spoke \"I don\'t think so either, what do you think Number two?\" He brought up the other head and moved it as if it were looking around. \"I don\'t think so either. Oh what do we do!\"

Wolfe raised his brow as Chase looked back at him expectantly. He shook his head and walked passed the vampire \"We\'re leaving. We need to get back before morning. Now stop playing around.\" He said as he walked onto the path towards the caves.

Chase shrugged and tossed the heads into the bloody mess and wiped his hands on his pants, scampering off to keep up with Wolfe. \"You\'re no fun.\" He pouted quietly.

It wasn\'t long before they reached the caves, and just in time too, as the sun started over the horizon, peeking through the still grey clouds that hung in the sky. They walked the path that Wolfe had gone down so many times and stopped at the stone wall. Wolfe digged in his pockets and brought out a couple stones and tossed them down on the ground towards Chase. The vampire looked at the stones and then back up to the hunter.

\"What was that for? You don\'t actually believe that myth do you?\" He said, showing no amusement this time. Wolfe smirked \"Oh you mean the counting thing? No, I don\'t believe it. But it made for a nice distraction while I opened the secret entrance.\" He said, and soon enough the wall slid open to reveal a small room with stairs just ahead.

\"Tricky you be hunter.\" Chase said with a smirk, \"He is close yes?\" His voice lifted it\'s tone a bit, showing his anxiousness in seeing the other vampire.

Wolfe nodded and walked through the entrance and started up the stairs, but stopped before opening the door. \"From here on you have to be quiet. Technically your not supposed to be here. So no matter what you see or hear, not a sound. Got it?\" He said firmly.

\"Of course, of course. So long as I get what I\'ve come for.\" He said quietly, then true to his word, never made another sound as they entered the main room of the mansion. Wolfe led them down several corridors before stopping in front of a securely locked room. He looked around and took out the keys from his pocket and started to quietly unlock the door. He took the keys out and pocketed them again and opened the steel door.

\"He\'s in there. This is where they keep him.\" He said and waited for Chase to walk inside. Chase did so hesitantly, first making sure Kell was truly in there to begin with. He squealed like a child at the sight of him. He turned his head towards Wolfe, his gaze harsh. \"You hurt him didn\'t you!?\" He said, raising his voice a notch.

Wolfe couldn\'t help but smirk. \"Oh trust me, he enjoyed it. Thoroughly.\" And before Chase could react, the door was shut and locked. The small window on the door opened, \"The human is for Kell, hsn\'sn\'t fed yet. I suspect he doesn\'t even know how. I\'m sure you\'ll attend to that.\" And then the room was dark as Wolfe shut and locked the little window.

Chase frowned and let his eyes roam the small place they\'ve been put into. It wasn\'t a bad room. But it was indeed empty. Save for them and the human, whom he vowed not to touch untill Kell was awake. So with a defeated sigh he made his way over to the sleeping vampire and sat down on the floor next to him. He watched the boy sleep for a long while before laying down and facing him. He smiled a little as he reached out and ran his finger down the boy\'s cheek.

\"Hello my darling. You needn\'t worry now. I\'m here.\" He said before moving closer to Kell and snuggling close to him. He was tempted to wrap his arms around the boy but decided against it. Instead he removed the cloth from his pocket and held it close to him as he drifted off to sleep, purring softly into the white scrap of Kell\'s shirt.

Slowly and quietly Wolfe made his way back to his own bed chambers. He walked ove his his dresser, grabbing a match and striking it against the stained wood. He lifted the glass that covered the latern, lit it and then replaced the glass cover.

He blew out the match and tossed it up on the dresser, then made his way to his bed. He sat down and kicked off his boots. He sat there for a while, arms resting on his thighs as he replayed the events that had transpired. Part of him couldn\'t believe he had stayed so fucking calm. But he knew panicking would have only made it worse. He was so lost in thought that he failed to noticed the presence at his door.

\"Well it\'s good to see you\'ve finally come back Mr. Wolfe.\" Said the figure that leaned against the frame of the door. Wolfe barely looked back and smirked a bit. \"Well hello to you to Mr. Prey.\"

Prey pushed himself off of the frame and shut the door. He walked over to the bed and crawled onto it, slowly making his way over to Wolfe. He sat up on his knee\'s and pressed his chest to the man\'s back, encircling his neck with his arms and laying his head on Wolfe\'s shoulder.

\"What\'s wrong Corin, bad night?\" He asked, a hint of concern in his voice. Wolfe just smiled and placed his own hands over Prey\'s. \"Something like that I guess. Not what I expected it to be.\"

\"You\'re still not going to tell me are you?\" He asked, trying to hide his disappointment. Wolfe shook his head, \"It\'s dangerous enough that I\'m even doing this. I don\'t wao geo get you hurt or in trouble.\"

Prey smiled and tightened his grip. \"Awe you really do care!\" He said in a mock joyfull tone.

Wolfe sighed, moving his thumb in a circle across one of Prey\'s hands. \"I\'m serious Toby. You have no idea how dangerous this is.\" He said seriously. Toby sighed \"I would if you\'d tell me!\"

\"I don\'t want to fight about this Toby, please. Just let it be for right now.\" He said, his voice hinting of exhaustion. Whether it was physically or mentally, Toby couldn\'t tell. \"Okay Cori, I\'ll stop.\"

Wolfe smiled a little, \"Thanks Toby.\" He said quietly. They sat like that for a long while before Toby broke the silence with a yawn. Reluctantly he let go of Corin and dropped back onto the bed, getting ready to leave. As Corin got off the bed and pulled down the covers, he looked up to Toby who was moving to get off of the bed.

\"Hey Toby?\"

\"Yeah?\"

\"Are you gonna stay?\"

\"All you have to do is ask. You know that.\"

\"Stay.\"
