The Next day
Early in the morning 5 year old Rebecca Stanners came downstairs. Her father and all five of her older brothers were already up.
“Where’s Momma?” she asked
“Oh she had to go away for a while darling.” Her father answered
“We don’t think she will be coming back.”
“Why not?”
“Because she won’t now stop asking questions and eat your breakfast.” Her father replied irritably.
Upset that her father’s anger was directed at her without her understanding why her eyes began to fill with tears. Seeing this her father went to comfort her.
“Shh. I wasn’t angry with you. Don’t cry. Cause I’ve got a special surprise for you.”
“Wis iis it?” she asked excitedly her tears forgotten.
“If I told you it wouldn’t be a surprise would it?”
“Please she begged.”
“No your surprise will come tonight once you’ve gone to sleep.” her father told her firmly. She did not notice a look passed between her brother’s faces at the mention of a surprise. They knew exactly what surprise she would be getting and couldn’t wait until tonight.
