Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Bryan Carter walked slowly towards the Wester Highschool soccer bleachers, a lit cigarette held in his left hand. He took a deep breath of the spring air and ran his free hand through his medium length, dark brown hair. He was lean, but there was a hard layer of muscle hiding beneath his skin, supporting his tall frame. He took a drag of his cigarette and closed his deep blue eyes. A sigh escaped his lips, It's so nice to be alone for a while. He continued to walk toward the bleachersiverivering slightly as the breeze came is way. He zipped up the front of his black leather jacket and tossed his cigarette away. He stuffed his hands in the pockets of his loose black jeans and looked around for anyone that may have been watching him.
He was eighteen, and was a loner. He distanced himself from the popular group as much as possible, and couldn't of cared less if he was ever mentioned in the school news paper, or if he went to prom. He hated being put in the spotlight. He even distanced himself from his family, not that his family cared. The less they saw of him the better, he was a trouble maker in their eyes, and he would ruin their perfect family image.
Bryan sighed as he reached the bleachers. He pulled his pack of cigarettes out of his pocket and was getting ready to light one when he heard a noise. It sounded like a choked sob. He listened, barely daring to breathe, and then he heard something else, "No, please no." There was a pause and then he heard the person say, "I'm sorry I didn't mean it." It was a girl, he could tell by her voice, but what was wrong with her? He walked further beneath the bleachers and stopped dead in his tracks. It was a girl named Jamie Green, he had seen her around at school, she was his grade and they had many classes together. But what is she doing here? He asked himself, and then he saw it. Shining dully in the grass was a small knife, the tip was coated with blood.
Bryan's gaze snapped up to the girl and he saw that she was clutching a bloody tissue to her wrist. In a sudden burst of understanding Bryan rushed to the girl and picked her up off the ground. "Jamie... Jamie hold on." He held her close to his body as he began to run. The hospital was only a few blocks away, but he wasn't sure she would make it. He sped up his pace, just hoping that she would stay alive. She tried to kill herself... but why? Why would she feel the need to end her life? Under the school bleachers of all places.
Jamie had passed out in his arms and her breathing was shallow. Bryan's adrenaline kicked in and he ran faster than he ever had before. He rounded another corner and the town's small hospital came into sight. It was late so the streets were deserted and he ran across the pavement to the front entrance of the hospital. The automatic doors opened with a soft "˜swish' and Bryan rushed in. The main lobby was empty except for two nurses that were chatting at the front desk They didn't notice him until he gasped for air, exhausted from running while carrying Jamie in his arms.
The two nurses turned and their eyes widened. One pressed an intercom and called for a doctor while the other rushed towards him. She hurriedly took Jamie's pulse and checked her breathing. Seconds later a doctor came running in, another nurse came behind him wheeling in a stretcher. Bryan placed Jamie's seemingly lifeless body onto the stretcher and watched as the doctor two of the nurses rushed her to a room where they could take care of her. The remaining nurse guided Bryan to a chair and made him sit down. She left for a moment but came back a moment later carrying a cup of water. She handed it to him and he drank it down greedily.
The nurse sat down in a chair next to him, she had a clipboard of paperwork and a pen with her. "My name is nurse Anne, eed eed you to tell me some things so we can help the girl you brought in." Bryan nodded to show he understood, he didn't have the energy to talk just yet. Nurse Anne must have known this for she started with questions that he could answer by just nodding or shaking his head. "Are you related to the girl?" Bryan shook his head.
"Was her injury caused by an attempt at suicide?" Bryan nodded his head and watched as Anne wrote something on the paper. A male nurse ran through the lobby and into the room that they had taken Jamie to and Bryan watched the door swing open and closed. "Do you know where her primary residence is located?" Bryan shook his head. "Do you know a phone number where we could contact her family?" Bryan shook his head again.
"Do you know her name?" Anne asked, she looked directly into Bryan's eyes as if she wanted to make sure he was telling the truth.
He nodded. "Jamie Green." He said, meeting the nurses gaze.
Anne wrote that down. "How old is she?"
"Seventeen... I think. I don't know when her birthday is."
"How do you know her?"
"We go to school together, I don't know her very well."
"Do you know anything about her family that would help us contact them? Like where they work for example? I also need to know if she is allergic to any medication." Anne asked, her pen was ready to write down anything important that he might say. At his blank look she asked him again. "Anything at all?" she questioned him.
Bryan looked down at his lap where his hands were fidgeting anxiously. He shook his head slowly. "I only know that she lives with her dad, and that she's an only child. As I already told you, I don't know her very well." He could feel Anne's eyes boring into the back of his head, as if she was trying to read his mind to make sure he was telling her everything.
She sighed. "Alright, thank you for your help. For now why don't you lie down in one of the rooms, we will wake you if anything happens." She said as she stood up.
Bryan was too tired to do anything else but stand up and follow. She led him to a small room and opened the door for him. As soon as he was inside the door closed behind him. Bryan got on to the hard mattress with heavily starched sheets and he fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.
AN: There it is... Chapter two as promised. I don\'t know when I will have the next chapter up because I don\'t have it written yet and real life is sucking right now. Well anyway, please R&R and tell me what you think. Good reviews will make me write faster and flames will be used to keep my ass warm :P
