Restless

An hour later, Destiny pulled into driveway of a small brick house, right beside a shiny red Mustang. She got out of the car and walked up to the door, removing a set of keys from her purse. Finding the right one, she stuck it in the lock and turned it, opening the door.
“Timmy!” she called entering house. “Timmy!” she called again, after no answer. Frustrated, she almost called again until she heard the faint sound of techno music drifting from the upstairs. With a sigh she walked into the next room, a kitchen and set down her purse. Setting down slowly, she kicked off her boots and stared at the microwave.
Squinting, she focused on willing the microwave to work, too lazy to get up. After a second, knowing it wouldn’t work she got up and removed last night’s McDonald’s from it. She ate the last of her Chicken Sandwich and then shuffled off up the stairs.
She walked down the hallway upstairs and stopped at a door. She knocked loudly, trying to make it hearable over the deafening music. “Timmy!” She blared through the door.
Finally, the music shut off and a male voice answered, “What?”
“Jesus Christ! Are you deaf?” She said, and continued not waiting for an answer, “Are we going to the club tonight or what? If not, I’m going to snooze, I got an early day tomorrow.”
Shuffling was heard behind the door and then it opened. Out stepp tal tall, man of medium build. His hair was spiked up and was brown with blonde tips. He wore a red and orange silk club shirt and white boxer shorts with hearts on them. Over that was a brown, ratty bath robe. “Does it look like I’m going to any club?” He said with a snap of his fingers, then laughing loudly. “no, really though, girl. Go to bed. We can party the night away when we’re both less tired.”
She nodded and told him, “I think I’ll take a bath though, before I slide off into la-la land.”
“Okay,” he replied, “But can you leave the door unlocked, I was shaving.”
She waved her hand, signaling that it was fine and walked off down the hall to the farthest door. Opening it, she walked into the medium-sized bathroom and started the water flowing into an old, porcelain bathtub. She then, poured some Epsom Salt in, along with some Sweet Pea bubble bath and took off her clothes. As soon as the tub was full, she slipped into the warm, silky dreamland.
Minutes later, Timmy walked in with his electric shaver in hand and headed for the mirror. Destiny looked up from her spot in the tub and nodded hello to him.
They set in silence for a while with the only sound, the running of the razor. Then, Destiny spoke, “Timmy?” she said.
He grunted in wait.
“Do you remember that blue-eyed boy from the Homecoming dance I was so gaga over all night?” she asked him, “James Hand?”
How could he forget? She spilled her punch all over him when he said hi to her. “Yeah.” he told her, “But why are you bringing this up now, doll face?”
“Oh,” she said, “No reason, he starts work with me tomorrow.”
“Oh my God!” Timmy laughed, turning toward her, smiling. “That is just too good. Girl, I wish you the best and best of luck.”
They mumbled a couple of suggestions here or there and then, a tired Destiny slipped out of the tub, dried off, and into a bath robe. Walking into her own room, she heard her cell phone ringing.
She dived onto the bed and grabbed the phone all in one motion. Then, flipped it open with a sleepy “Hello?”
“Hey.” Came a deep voice from the other end.
Destiny rolled her eyes and sighed, “Oh, hi, Matt.”
“What’s wrong?” Came the voice again.
“Nothing. Long day at work.” She replied.
The male voice grunted and then shifted off into a story about a current game he was playing. This caused Destiny to drift off. She looked around her room, only coming back every so often for an ‘okay’ to let him know she was listening.
Her eyes ran over her posters of KoRn, Johnny Depp, and Bruce Willis, A stray movie poster here and there and a very long shelf of DVDs. She read all the titles to herself, making sure they were still alphabetized. Roaming back to the conversation, she realized he was still boring. Off she went again, her eyes catching her computer and stack of Sims games, a few Wicca books, A Ouija bored, 3 packs of Tarot cards, various candles and incenses, a huge stack of lined and unlined paper, and a plethora of art supplies.
Zoom. Back she was in the conversation just as the story about ‘the toughest knight in cyber-space’ ended. Didn’t he realize by now, this was why she had left him. He was so childish and still didn’t have a job or a car. He wanted to get married? Bah. He could marry his precious man-toys, such as his Final Fantasy action figures or his Playstation. He could have all the time he wanted with them now that she was gone. He didn’t care then and nor did he care now.
“Well,” he said after he was finished, “I left a friend waiting for me, I told him I’d be right back online. I’m going to go. You got to work tomorrow, anyway.”
“Yep.” She said shortly.
“Uh, Bye?” he said questioningly.
“Bye.” She returned and then threw her cell phone on her bed.
“Bastard.” she said, closing her eyes.
Her cell phone rung again only seconds later.
“Bah!” She cried, “Don’t these imbeciles know I work?”
Flipping open the phone again she said “Hello?”
A young boys voice came through the ear piece, “Hey sis.”
“Oh,” she said yawning, “Hey Justin. What’s happening?”
“Oh, not much.” he told her, “Just wondering if you got plans this weekend. I wanted to come over and spend a little time if that would be okay with you.”
“Sure. Sure.” She told him, “That’d be great. I’m off this weekend. As for any plans,” she paused, “Since when do I have those. Now, really, you do know me better than that.”
He laughed slightly, showing that he too was pretty tired. “Good, pick me up Friday at 5 then?”
“Done and done.” She told him.
“Good, well, bye. See you then. I love you.” And without waiting for a reply he hung up.
With a yawn, Destiny closed her eyes again and drifted into a dreamless sleep.
