Chapter 19
A slam of a door jerked Orlando awake. Lifting his head, Orlando watched Vin storm across the bedroom, muttering and cussing the entire time. Sighing, Orlando sat up, his big brown eyes following every move Vin made.
“Vin?” A soft voice floated across the room.
Vin stopped at midstep, turning his eyes until they rested upon his angel who was sitting up in the middle of their bed. His eyes softened at the sight. He loved seeing Orlando when he first woke up, his eyes still held the dreamy-sleep look within them, his dark, tousled curls wound around his neck and face. Orlando’s full, plump pink lips screamed to be kissed. Yes, Orlando was an angel, his angel.
Vin walked over to the bed, his feet slapping on the marble floor. Wrapping his hands around Orlando’s waist, he pulled him up until he was on his knees. Vin’s hard demanding lips met soft yielding ones. Pulling back a soft “happy birthday, baby,” slipped from Vin’s lips.
Orlando blushed. He could feel Vin’s eyes roaming over his nude body. Lifting his big brown eyes, he stared into steel gray ones. Orlando was always amazed how Vin’s emotions could change dramatically from one minute to the next.
“Thank you, Vin,” Orlando whispered.
Orlando heard soft banging coming from outside. His confusion showed on his face as he turned toward the window. “What’s going on Vin?”
“Your party, of course,” Vin said, smiling down.
“My party?” Orlando turned back to Vin, his brow raised in question. He knew nothing about a party.
“Yes, silly.” Vin snickered at how large Orlando’s eyes grew at that comment.
Orlando remained silent, his mind adjusting to the idea that Vin was throwing him a party. He’d never had a party before. Usually on his birthday, Vin would get him something and then they would make love all night. But a party? This was totally new to the boy.
Vin knew he had shocked Orlando and it was funny watching the flickering emotions cross his young face. One of the many things he loved about Orlando was how he could never lie to him; the boy’s eyes were the windows to his very soul.
“It’s your sixteenth birthday, angel. This is a very special day and we are going to celebrate it.” Vin’s voice became hard as he heard shouts from below.
“What going on downstairs?” Orlando asked, turning once more toward the window, his excitement growing.
“It’s just the decorators for your party, angel.” Vin’s voice became soft again. Reaching up, he ran his large hand through those shiny dark curls.
Orlando sighed and leaned into the strong hand. Closing his eyes, Orlando relished these tender moments with Vin for they were few.

A knock at the door interrupted the precious moment.
“Enter,” Vin said, stepping away from Orlando.
One of the dark, carved oak doors opened and Ian stepped inside. He was carrying a tray with Orlando’s meal on it.
Reaching down, Orlando grabbed the covers and brought them up to cover his groin.
“I told Ian to bring up your lunch since you missed breakfast,” Vin explained as he saw the look of confusion on Orlando’s face.
“Let me get dressed and I can go down to the kitchen,” Orlando said excitedly. Shifting the covers around his waist, he started to get up.
“No!” Vin’s voice became stern and final. “You are not allowed to go downstairs unescorted.”
“But…” Orlando stammered but Vin cut him off.
“I said no. There are strangers in this house and I will not have you wandering around.” Vin’s voice became hard as ice. “Until the new bodyguard that I hired comes and takes his place in protecting you, I will not have you wandering around.”
Orlando lowered his head, slipping his lower lip between his teeth. “Please…”
“No. Do not make me cancel this party, Orlando. If you step one foot out this bedroom door, I will cancel everything and you will be severely punished.”
Ian watched the exchange between the two, which actually seemed more one-sided. He felt so sorry for Orlando, for he knew the boy only wanted to go and see what was going on.
“Ian, give Orlando his lunch,” Vin said turning for the door. He needed to go downstairs. As he reached the door, he turned around. Orlando looked so small in their big bed. “I mean it, Orlando, not one foot. Do you understand?”
Orlando nodded as tears ran down his cheeks.

Brad looked at himself in the mirror. He had to admit this black suit made him look sharp. Sighing, he looked at his face. He’d already shaved but couldn’t decide what he wanted to do with his hair. Keeping his hair loose might distract him so he decided to pull it back. Grabbing a rubber band, he wrapped the copious strands into a ponytail, making sure it laid flat against his back. Taking his sunglasses out, he put them on, completing the picture.
“Damn, what a sexy man,” Angelina said from the bathroom doorway.
Brad’s reflection smiled at Angelina. “You think so, sweetheart?”
“Are you sure it’s a man you’ll be protecting?” Angelina smiled but the flash in her eyes did not go unnoticed.
Brad turned around, slipping his sunglass off, and stared into Angelina’s eyes. “Honey, where is this coming from?”
“Nowhere, honey, and it’s nothing. I’m still nervous about you working for Mr. Diesel,” Angelina admitted, avoiding Brad eyes.
“Honey, we’ve already talked about this.” Brad’s voice became irritable. “How many times are we going to have this conversation?”
“I’m sorry, honey,” Angelina said. She didn’t want to fight, not when he was going to work in a couple of hours.
“It’s okay, sweetheart,” Brad reassured her, his voice softening instantly. Turning around, he reached out and grabbed Angelina around the waist and dragged her to him. “Don’t worry, sweetheart, I haven’t forgotten my promise. If I don’t like the job, or if it becomes dangerous, I will go and work for you dad. But you have to give it a chance,” Brad pleaded. “I can’t have you upset every time I walk out the door.”
Leaning down, Brad gently kissed his wife on the lips. “Give this job a chance,” he whispered.
“All right,” Angelina whispered back.
“Thank you, sweetheart.” Brad smiled into his lovely wife’s dark eyes.
Shiloh came running into their bedroom. “Daddy,” she squealed, her puppy chasing after her.
“Angel,” Brad said as he bent down and lifted Shiloh into his arms.
Soft little barks came from the puppy on the bathroom floor. He was jumping up on his hind legs, trying to get to Shiloh.
“What is daddy’s angel up to?” Brad asked tapping his daughter nose.
Shiloh giggled. “Outside playing with Strumpet.”
Angelina stared at her family. The two people she loved most in the world were standing in front of her. She should have been filled with joy but for some reason she felt an impending doom. No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t shake the feeling.
Brad let Shiloh down, who immediately took off after the hyper puppy, before taking one last look in the mirror. Brad turned and faced Angelina. “Well, honey, I guess I’m heading out.”
“Heading out? Why? I thought you had several hours before you had to be there?” Angelina asked, confusion lacing her voice.
“It’ll take an hour or so to get to Vin’s house. Plus, I wanted to get there a little early, to make a good impression,” Brad said as he walked out of the bathroom.
“I thought we have a couple of hours together, before you left.” Angelina said following Brad out of the bedroom.
Heading down the stairs, Brad pulled out his wallet. Removing his ID from behind his driver’s license, he slipped it into his coat pocket.
As they reached the bottom of the stair, he turned and grabbed Angelina, bringing her luscious lips up to meet his. For several seconds, everything faded except them. Eventually soft giggles and little barks intruded their world.
Slowly releasing Angelina, Brad suddenly reached down and grabbed Shiloh, who shrieked upon being lifted back up into strong arms.
“You’re going to be a good girl for daddy, aren’t you?” Brad asked as he kissed his daughter on the forehead.
A predictable, little nod answered his question.
Smiling, Brad looked over Shiloh’s shoulder and stared into his loving wife’s eyes.
“You’re going to mind your mother and do what she says?”
Another little nod and a smile.
“Whose angel are you, sweetheart?” Brad asked, looking down upon his daughter’s blond hair.
“Yours,” she answered, wrapping her little arms around his neck. He leaned over given him a kiss on the cheek.
“All right, I have to go,” Brad said, setting down Shiloh.
Walking over to Angelina, he leaned in and kissed her once more. “Make sure you lock the doors and keep them locked. And don’t answer the door, unless you know who it is. And…”
Angelina raised her fingers to his lips, silencing him. “Don’t worry about us. You just be careful.”
“I will, sweetheart, and remember what I said.”
Angelina nodded. She knew the risk of Brad taking this job.
Turning, Brad walked to the front door. As he opens it, he turned once more to his family. Smiling, he waved goodbye. Closing the door, Brad’s mind was already on his new job.
Angelina walked to the front window and watched the man she loved with her entire heart leave. She prayed that Brad would hate the job but had a feeling that he wouldn’t. Sighing, she leaned her head against the cold glass and watched the tail lights of his car until she couldn’t see them anymore.
