Chapter Nineteen

I stood in front of the altar in my basement and frowned, looking through the spell book. So maybe my little plan wasn’t going to work. Maybe I could just … No, that wouldn’t work.

I sighed and stood, stretching as I walked up the stairs and into the living room, jumping in shock at the sight of Kingston sitting on the couch. “Damnit, Kingston, give a girl a heart attack.”

“I’m sorry, Alexia, but I’m staying in the guest room until I get an apartment of my own, remember?” The anger in his voice was toxic, and it hurt something deep inside me.

“Oh, yeah, sorry.” I turned to walk into my room and stopped. It was stupid to just leave him sitting there. I might as well tell him what I had decided, right?

I walked over to him and knelt in front of him. I reached up to take his hands, but he jerked back. “Don’t, Alexia. I don’t want to be just some member of your harem.”

I sighed and placed my hands between my knees. “Look into my eyes, Kingston. Does it look like I’m going to make you a part of any harem? Do you honestly think that I could choose someone besides you?”

Kingston stared at me for a minute, but his face didn’t soften. “What are you saying, Alexia?”

“I’m saying, Kingston, that I love you and have since I was six years old. I want only one man in my life, one demon. I want you, Kingston, more than anything.”

I felt my heart sink as his face remained immobile and emotionless. I had chosen, but it didn’t seem that I had chosen right.

I waited for what felt like eternity before he moved, fast as lightening, lips pulling me into his lap and kissing me. I was a little shocked at first but quickly returned the kiss, wrapping my arms around his neck.

He smiled against my lips and moved me to where my back was on the couch. I pulled him to me, more than willing to continue, when my phone rang. Sighing, I opened it and answered with a gruff, “Mooren.”

“Alexia, it’s Andreas. You need to come back to the club. Your little Lycan friend is here and he’s looking for you. He doesn’t seem to like me very much.”

“OK, Andreas, I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

“Thank you, darling. Be careful and I send my love.”

“I love you too, Andreas. I’ll be there shortly.” I hung up and looked at the confused look on Kingston’s face. It was borderline hurt, like I had another man on the side.

It was then that I realized I had just told Andreas that I loved him. I laughed and kissed Kingston, pulling myself up off the couch. “Andreas is my soul mate, Kingston. We’re doomed to be best friends until the end of time.”

“I was worried for a minute that you had someone else, Alexia. I was about to go demon postal on you.”

“Nope, only you. Now come on. We have to head to Exotic Trophies to prevent Ian from killing Andreas.” I grabbed my Jeep keys and purse, complete with weapons.

I grabbed a holster from the door and pulled it on before adding a leather duster jacket. I ruffled my hair in the mirror and turned to Kingston. “Coming, baby?”

He smiled and shrugged. “If you call me baby again, I’d follow you anywhere.”

“Baby, baby, baby!” I smiled as he walked over to me and kissed me one time for each baby.

I walked out the door and closed it behind him. I strolled up the walk and slid into my Jeep, Kingston getting in beside me.

I took the few roads toward the club going over ten miles above the speed limit and then pulled into the parking lot with a screeching holt, hopping out before the car was completely off.

Kingston was close behind me as we went into the club. As we cleared the door, I noticed that his normally hidden horns were visible on his forehead, scaring all possible perverts away from me.

I heard Andreas’s voice over the crowd and noticed a crowd around an empty spot and made my way there. I found that my suspicions were corrected when Kingston shoved through the crowd and I spotted Ian yelling at Andreas.

“You mother fucking vampyre! You don’t deserve a girl as great as Alexia. What does she see in you anyway? You’re not some smooth talking sex god like you think you are. I know she was here with you, just admit it.”

“Sir, I assure you that my relationship with Alexia is completely friendly and will never be in any way sexual. If you would just calm down and leave the premises, we can talk when you are less intoxicated.” I smiled at the kindness and care in Andreas’s voice as he tried to Ian down, but I knew that this was going to be all on me.

“Bastard!” Ian struck out with hands gone into claws at Andreas face, but my hand was there first, grabbing his wrist.

“Now, Ian, what do you think you’re doing to my dearest Andreas?”

I shoved Ian a little to get him away from Andreas, who set his hands on my shoulders. I could feel the anger and urgency in his hands and knew that I had been just in time to save Ian from the full force of the eldest vampyre.

“Why if it isn’t the whore of Babylon! Alexia, so glad of you to come, and I see that you have your demon lover here with you. So touching.” Ian staggered a little and was pushed back into the circle by a bystander.

“No, Ian, I have my demon boyfriend with me. You see, I did a little soul searching after you found me with Kingston and found that I can’t live without Andreas.” I smiled at the confident look on Ian’s face as he thought he had won. “But I will never be his lover. He is my … Je ne sais quoi.”

“He’s your soul mate. For every vampyre there is another vampyre who will remain eternally friends. They will provide comfort and healing to each other.” I stared at Kingston with an open mouth for moment, unable to believe that he knew that. He shrugged and smiled. “When I met you, I researched vampyres so that I could be prepared for everything.”

I smiled and turned back to Ian, who looked angry. “He’s right. Andreas and I are to be companions for the rest of our days.”

“So he’s the one you chose, huh? Then why is that demon half-breed scum here?” Ian jerked his chin toward Kingston.

“I chose Kingston.” Simple as that. Tell him the truth and don’t add anything else in there.

“Chose the demon? Why was the bartender telling me that you banged the vampyre earlier tonight?”

Kingston looked at me, but he had a knowing look on his face. He shrugged and nodded. I took that as the go ahead and shrugged in Ian’s direction. “Yeah, I had sex with Andreas. It’s what happens the first time a vampyre realizes their soul mate.”

“So demon boy knew and it ok with it?” Ian looked at Kingston and he nodded. “Why, man? Why would you be ok with her being with another man just hours after she was with you?”

“Because I love her and I knew that she loves me. I also know how vampyres are and that there was more than likely nothing she could do about it.”

Kingston’s answer was so honest I found myself taking a small step towards him, though Andreas made sure to keep me from moving too far. I moved my hands over Andreas and felt his lips on my neck, kissing the wound where he had taken blood earlier that night. I found myself tilting my head to the side to allow him to better access to my neck.

I watched Ian’s face as Andreas move his lips along my neck, trying to keep himself calm. Kingston was more amused then anything, and I was glad of that.

“You’re all insane! How could you allow this, demon? He’s kissing on your woman. Don’t you think that’s a little weird?”

“Nope. I know how Alexia feels about me, and I know that her and Andreas are just friends. I trust her. If you cared for her, you would too.”

Ian looked at Kingston and then back at me and Andreas. I think it was more Andreas being an ass, but his arms went around my waist and into my jacket, rubbing along my stomach. I shuddered and shook my head. “Andreas, stop.”

“Of course, my darling.” He moved away from me and motioned for Kingston to come nearer to us.

Kingston, being a good guy, looked at me for permission. I smiled and stepped into him, wrapping my arms around his waist and kissing him on the cheek.

I leaned into him and whispered in his ear. “You never have to ask permission ever again. I am yours.”

“This is disgusting.” I glanced at Ian, having forgotten about him for the moment, and put my hands on my hip, challenging him. “You have a demon and a vampyre backing you up, Alexia. Don’t you see the wrong in that?”

“What would you rather me have? A Lycan wolf who gets mad just because I go off with a friend? A Lycan wolf who left me without letting me know where he was going? Who killed his parents and didn’t trust me enough to let me know?”

My anger started to well up inside me and my eyes went a solid green, vampyre powers coming to the forefront. I could feel Andreas move to grab my arm about the same time as Kingston’s arms tightened around me.

“Is that how you feel, Alexia? That I lied to you?”

“I need to be with someone who I can’t live without. You, I did live without for years. I’ve always had Kingston. Even when he was in Sheol, he would materialize in front of me to talk to me when I was depressed. I can stand the thought of living without him.”

“I guess I did lie to you.” Ian sighed and grabbed a chair, sitting down in front of me. He took a deep breath and looked at me, apology in his eyes. “I’m sorry, Alexia. I overreacted. You deserve someone who can be with you who won’t lie to you. I’m just hoping that we can still be friends.”

I relaxed enough so that Andreas and Kingston weren’t gripping my arms and walked over to Ian, kneeling in front of him. “I would be honored to be your friend, Ian. I’m sorry we couldn’t be more, but that’s all I have to offer.”

“I actually prefer to just be your friend, Alexia. This way, there’s no chance that you’ll get caught in the cross fire when I shift.” Ian turned to Kingston and sighed. “I’m sorry about the demon half-breed comments, Kingston. Do you think we could start over?”

“That would be great, Ian.” Kingston walked over and held his hand out. They shook and I smiled as Ian took the initiative to turn his attention to Andreas.

“I’ve never been found of vampyres, Andreas, but if you’re Alexia’s friend, I guess you should be mine as well.”

He stood and held his hand out to Andreas. I held my breath, waiting for Andreas to rip his head off, but was pleasantly surprised to find Andreas smile and shake Ian’s hand. “I agree, Mr. Donne. We should be friends for Alexia’s sake.”

I sighed and smiled. “Good. Now that that’s over with, I can head home and get some sleep. I’ve had a rough couple of days.”

They all nodded in agreement and the crowd separated to let us out into the streets. Andreas kissed me gently and smiled. “Be careful, Alexia. Kingston, take care of her.”

My cell phone rang and I groaned, knowing that it was never anything good. “Mooren.”

I frowned and hung up the phone. “Hold that thought, guys. We have to head to the hospital, now, and by we, I mean all of us.”
