People of Armiah
Chapter 5
The People of Armiah
Isabella walked over Antille's limp and frail body as it lay silently on the cobblestone road. He looked down at him silently. He bent down and lifted him onto her back. She grabbed his thighs and lifted him up higher onto her back. His body jumped slightly then began to slide down. Again she would knock him up.
She looked around her. Townspeople would form around her with shocked and confused expressions. They looked around to the bloody corpses that now flooded the streets. One woman screamed and ran down the streets in fear and craze. Isabella watched her and turned to the man that still stood there shocked.
Isabella smiled some and wittingly said. "Well I guess we can't rent a room tonight at the inn." Her smile faded as she began to walk down the street. The man's mouth gaped open as he watched her leave. He was of course still in shock. He didn't know what to think of what just happened, or how to analyze it.
Isabella walked down the crowded streets. Her eyes would shift back and forth as she watched the people stare. Most that were actually in the street would move out of her way. It was almost as if she were diseased. She walked to the town's border yet again and slipped into the forest. The branches would sling up from behind her and cover her.
The forest was dark and deeply green. Moss form around her boot. The flowers would spring up from the earth it self and follow on with every step she would take. She would stop and look around her slightly curious of the sudden growing plants. She stopped and gently placed Antille down on a rock filled with moss. He would turn over and groan to himself.
Small trees would sprout up around Antille. The sticks would form up and start to touch him. Isabella watched this curiously. The sticks then would begin to stab at him. She began to swat them with her sword. The trees would snap and break and begin to recoil. " Stop it." She yelled as she continued to swat.
The branches of the trees start to wrap around Antille's body. After the branches wrap around Antille's arms tightly, the trees start to bring him high in the sky. Antille, having no energy to resist whatsoever, is unwillingly obedient to the trees' will. Isabella tries to swat the branches, however the branches were already too strong and big that Isabella could not stop the trees. Then Isabella attempts to slice the branches. Along with the sensation of strong resistance of the branch she tried to slice, however, a dull metal sound echoed through the woods. Even Isabella's sword, Ricquelle, could not slice even one branch of these trees. Isabella could not hide herself beginning to panic. Then, desperately, she pulls out the blade of her sword from the thin yet strong layer of the branch that made Ricquelle stick as she tried to slice it. After she pulled out the blade, she points the acute tip of her Ricquelle to the body of the same tree she attempted to slice its branch, and began to stab it. Again, and again, she continues to stab as the same dull sound echoes across the forest. Around her was complete darkness created by the surrounding trees and its branches and leaves. All she could feel was her sword and the sound and resistance of the tree's body being stabbed. She had no guarranttee her current action was going to save Antille. But dependent on her beliefs, she uses all her energy to insert her blade in the tree. Then, as she was able to feel her sword penetrate deeper inside, she felt drops of warm liquid splatter all over her. But to Isabella herself, she could only think about Antille and to save him from the unknown consequence to not doing so. Then, as the sword begins to penetrate the tree as easily as human flesh, the tree branches start to reveal the lights above from the sky. The tree then starts to decompose itself and as the tree now can be seen extremely frail, Antille falls down to Isabella's arms. Then Isabella looks down to him, but her instant smile turns to an expression of horror. What splattered from the tree she stabbed was blood. She looks at her Ricquelle and she sees it stained in crimson colors. Why is the tree soaking in blood from within? As she looks inside the tree, she finds few strands of blonde hair soaked in red. Isabella opens the body of the tree with her two hands, and finds a weakened teenage girl that the splattered blood originated from.
A group of men and women surround Isabella, Antille and the blood stained girl. The faces of those people all showed no anger, or sadness. If there was any expression they showed, it was only pity. Isabella, looking at those faces, wondered. Who exactly are they showing their pity towards? At the same time, she hoped, along with her assumptions that they are showing pity for the weak blonde haired girl, that they are showing pity for her. She hoped that they understood what she and Antille went through until now, and would accept her existence, her raison d'etre. Then as she felt her tears falling on to her arms, she blew away her unrealistic hopes.
"We just want to save the girl", says one of the men in the group. Isabella looks at the weakened girl they refer to. Save her? Impossible, Isabella thought. Though she now feels guilt looking at her innocent expression, she remembers her stabs accurately. She knows that those penetrations were lethal.
"I'm very sorry..but I can't believe she can be saved.", Isabella answers.
"The girl's name is Amelia. She is very special to us, do not worry, young warrior, she can be saved. Her existence is a miracle itself."
