Chapter 19
Turner closed his eyes and nodded, the half smile finally returning to his face. "You should take a shower, Shi. It would make you feel better." He gestured through an open door in his bedroom that obviously was a bathroom. "Go. I'll still be here when you're through."
Blaine rushed up the steps to his mansion and flung the doors open. His eyes poured tears. "Novus!" he called out to the shadows. "Novus! Where are you?!" Fear laced his every word. Fear that Spike had arrived sooner than he had. Fear that Novus was possibly hurt beyond repair.
Shi got to his feet. "A shower...that would be nice..." he agreed, wiping his face on the back of his sleeve. This didn't do much, other than smear the tears across his face, like some evil marking. Shi walked off into the bathroom, his steps light and near soundless.
Novus snapped to attention upon hearing Blaine's voice. Still too afraid to sense that Blaine was upset and worried, Novus pulled away from Alexis and ran down the hallway in the opposite direction Blaine's calls were coming from. He ran for his life, moving way quicker than he thought possible for himself. He fled straight into a shadow and dissappeared through it, not caring if he accidentally got lost.
Turner watched Shi as he departed and sighed. This could have been a mistake. In his lifetime, he had never seen something like this happen.
Marius, upon recieving word from Alexis, followed the Prince and Laepheus back to the Prince's current home. He didn't bother with the guards, and flung doors open before him like the were nothing, going to the Prince's sitting room.
Blaine followed his scent and stopped at the shadow. "Novus!!! Please, Novus!!!" he yelled into the shadow. His hand sought out the shadow, as if trying to pull Novus back to him. Strangely, however, his hand passed into the shadow. His love and fear for Novus spurring him on, he too disappeared into the shadow. "Novus!!!" he called out, hoping that he would hear him. He moved around, unable to see much. Alexis had followed the both of them in, should either one become lost.
Aydrien looked at Marius, frowning slightly at the adrubt intrusion. "Yes?" he asked, his hair still tossled from earlier. He had not brushed it he had been in such a rush. He sent out little mental notes to Demonic, feeling slightly nervous and wanting De to be awake and near him.
"No!" Novus cried out, voice echoing out in the shadows, then absorbing into the blackness. He was definitely afraid, still bent on the idea that Blaine meant to yell at him hurt him or something. "I didn't mean to!!! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!!!" he cried and cried, and all the while moved further and further, trying to stay out of Blaine's reach.
Marius stepped forward, the bells on his ankles clinkling merrily. His face however was solid. "You were told by myself, the King, to stop your control. Why did you not deem yourself worthy of heeding your King and Queen's orders?" De reclined in the shadows, his aura wrapping around Aydrien's protectively, as if to let him know that he was there, beside him, comforting him.
Blaine continued to move along in the shadows. "It's alright Novus!!! Please, I just want to know you're alright!" Alexis observed this interaction from a distance, able to see and hear clearly in these shadows. An amused smile found its way to her lucious lips. In her own way, Alexis could be quite sadistic.
The Prince tilted his head slightly, and kept his gaze confident and steady upon Marius. "I felt the threat was not yet over. That is why," he told the elder, his aura displaying the authority he felt he had in his own House.
Novus did pause, Blaine's tone of voice finally registering. "You...what???" he asked, very confused. "Why???"
About 15 minutes later, Shi stepped out of the bathroom, still toweling his hair. He had his pants on, but everything he left in a pile on the floor because it was dirty and soiled with blood. He looked at Turner inquisitively, as if wondering what was to happen now.
Marius stepped forward, his aura charging the air around him. "You know fully well that you would have been able to take on one mere vampire, Spike no less, by yourself. There was no need to control the new one. You know our laws. You should abide by them. Otherwise, there are consequences that must be rendered."
Blaine stepped towards the sound of Novus's voice. "Because, little one, I am worried about you. My decision was rash. A foolish one. I didn't mean to harm you. It's the last thing I wanted. I am here for you, to keep my promise. I will never harm you, nor will I let another harm you."
Alexis's smile turned into a true one at Blaine's words. He had a gift, that vampire.
Turner looked around at Shi. "There are many things that must be done, a few which I believe may already be set in motion. But, most importantly, there is your training. You will not need a teacher, for I know the ways of a Diabolizer, having turned several in my time."
The Prince stood his ground as Marius advanced. He did bow, slightly, and apologized. "I'm deeply sorry, Marius...I realize I have done wrong," he acknowledged, at least being mostly sincere. The truth was he was a bit paranoid of his life being in danger, and would rather have more power on his side than was needed than not enough.
Novus approached Blaine in the shadows, cautiously. He wanted to believe what Blaine was saying was true. It had to be....hopefully he was no longer angry. It had been an accident...Novus and Shi had both been a bit drunk, after all. "I'm here, Blaine," he said, standing before him. Novus was almost a part of the shadows...he was completely black, and his form wasn't exactly tangible, as if it were smoke around the edges. The only things that stood out from this darkness was a pair of stark-white eyes, staring wide-eyed at Blaine.
Marius sighed and stepped back. "You have many to protect you, and even Laepheus is capable of taking care of Spike. Like I have said, there was no need to control the new one. I will report this incident to the Queen. No matter what you say here to try and persuade me out of it, she will know of this night's events. The new one is quite strong already, but still incapable of defending himself properly. She will not be pleased." Suddenly he was gone, into a tiny sliver of a shadow.
Blaine didn't have the will to look at his own shadow, he could only stare at those eyes. He knew, vaguely, that he must look the same. They were after all in the same place. "Let's return home, Novus. I wish to speak with you. I am not angry anymore. I'm just... worried is all. I want to make sure that you're safe." Alexis stepped up out of her "hiding spot" and stood there, making her prescence known, but not overly so. She would lead the both of them back, should they wish to go.
The Prince actually stomped a foot into the floor after Marius had left, growling curses in some ancient, forgotten tongue. "De!" he called, even though Demonic was near, "De, I don't like this at all. I want to leave this city and move on, after the Queen visits...and I am not looking forward to her visit," he told Demonic. He knew he couldn't run. The Queen could always find him, no matter where he went.
Novus nodded, although still hesitant. "Alright," he agreed, stepping a little closer and taking Blaine's hand into his own.
De sighed and looked at Aydrien. "From the sounds of it, it kind of seems like you brought this on yourself. But, nonetheless, you and I will flee the country after the Queen visits. Well... get away from here anyways. Perhaps the Queen will even suggest it. She might feel as if you have too many temptations here," De suggested, trying to lighten Aydrien's mood.
Blaine wrapped his fingers around Novus's hand tightly, yet gently. Alexis led them back to Blaine's mansion, where Blaine wasted no time in wrapping Novus up in his arms, holding the little one close. "I'm so sorry that I became that angry... I wanted to kill him, Novus... I was so jealous..." Blaine felt himself blush in his shame. In an attempt to hide it, he buried his face in Novus's hair.
After a brief meeting with Marius, Alexis found herself, yet again, going to the Prince's lodgings. So much had happened this night. Would she ever be left alone? At this point in time, Alexis was, to put it simply, quite pissed. She had yet to feed, and she knew the sun would rise in less than two hours. But yet, this Prince, as old as he may be, seemed to still have yet to learn the ways of his own people.
"Mmm, yes..." Aydrien said with a nod. Too many temptations, indeed. "And I know exactly where we'll go," he told Demonic as he turned, a smile pulling at his lips. But it was quickly gone as he felt Alexis's presence.
Novus sighed heavily into Blaine's chest, relieved that Blaine was no longer so frighteningly angry. He was curious about his twin, however...very curious. He had lived most of his life believing he had no living relatives. What had become of Shi after he had run? With his arms wrapped around Blaine's waist, Novus tenitively stroked his master's lower back. "It's okay..." he told him, face still buried against Blaine's chest.
De himself shook. He could feel Alexis's anger long before he felt her prescence. On instinct, De draped a hand on Aydrien's shoulder, ready to defend him with his very life should he need to.
Alexis, instead of shadowphasing, merely disappeared in a puff of black smoke and reappeared in front of Aydrien, again with a whirl of black smoke, nearly shaking with anger. "Do you know what this is going to cost me? I give you one more frikkin chance. If you fail me one more time... You will no longer be a prince. I will have another step up to take these lands. Believe me, I know a few that would kill to be in your place right now. I know just who to pick from them too. You are to leave this town as soon the sun sets. Do not disturb Master Turner's town. If you do, you will be sorry." With that, she was gone. Angrily she stalked the town, looking for her prey. One sorry chap grabbed her by the arm, asking if she was alright. Poor man never got the chance to see her face before he hit the ground, dead from lack of blood.
Blaine clutched Novus tighter. Slowly his blush began to receed. He lifted his face up and raised Novus's gently. He placed a soft tentative kiss upon his love's lips. He was ever so sorry. He never meant for this to turn out this way. He had never expected to be so jealous that he would turn back to Spike. The very thought had earned a black mark in his mind. He hated his brother. At least, now he did. The things they used to do were legal then. Now, however, it was totally improper to slaughter more than what you needed to eat. His soft kiss remained soft, but it became a bit stronger as these thoughts jumbled around in his head.
The Prince Aydrien bowed low, taking the Queen's words and warnings quite seriously. He definitely planned on leaving town, and even the country at the next sundown. After Alexis left, Aydrien slunk off to his room, half shadows.
Novus listened silently, able to catch the gist of Blaine's loud thougts. ~You ran from me...~ Novus sniffed, new tears welling up in his eyes as he realized the full meaning of this. Maybe that wasn't so okay. ~You DO realize I have nothing without you, don't you?~ he asked, bottomless eyes staring up into Blaine's as the vampire kissed him. Novus's eyes had a new gravity that was almost an actual force pulling Blaine even closer, towards the young Diabolizer.
De followed Aydrien silently. He wanted to help him desperately, yet the only way that he knew how to do just that was to remain near Aydrien. So, he planned on it as he followed him. He would remain a constant fixture near Aydrien where ever he went.
Blaine stiffened and pulled back. "I'm sorry... I just... I know that you would have nothing without me. I was rash. I was stupid. I just... I didn't know what else to do." Even as the words tumbled from his mouth, they sounded jumbled and confusing. With a great effort, he took a deep breath, a near vain attempt at steadying himself before he continued. "I didn't want to harm either of you. Least of all you. So I ran. The more I ran, the more I wanted to kill him. The one who kissed you. I was jealous and I allowed it to take me over." Blaine's eyes never diverted from Novus's during his little speech.
Aydrien silently got undressed and slipped under the covers on his bed, wanting to curl up in the darkness there. He wanted to get to sleep...the sooner, the better. Then he could wake at the next sundown and leave this place. His shadows and psychic touches lightly graced over De's skin, beckoning the elder vampire to come to bed with him.
Novus listened attentively to everything Blaine had to say. The explanation Blaine offered comforted the young one, and made him more nervous at the same time. He loved his master so...but Blaine had such a dangerous temper.
"Well don't hurt him," Novus told Blaine, still trying not to full-out cry. "I am so very sorry Blaine...I didn't mean to, and I guess I don't handle drink very well....but Blaine, I want to get to know him...my twin. Before tonight I had always believed I had no living relatives," Novus explained. He had no knowledge of what had happened to Shi after he had fled however. And no one but Turner knew of Shi's power.
De, too, slipped silently out of his clothing and climbed into bed with Aydrien. He curled his large frame around his lover's smaller one, holding him close to his chest as if to comfort him and protect him from all the evils outside of this one bed. Slowly, but surely, De found his way into a deep sleep.
Blaine nodded. "It's alright little one. We just know now to keep you away from liquor until you're older." He thought about the consequences that could be rendered from Novus and Shi getting to know more about each other. Hesitantly, he replied, "I think... that it would be alright for you to get to know him, but I'd rather like to be with you, just to make sure he won't try to hurt you..." ~Or try to take you away,~ he thought to himself, quietly.
"Well yes, of course..." Novus said, then wiped at his eyes. It wasn't long before he was yawning...dawn was beginning to approach. "Blaine...I'm sleepy," the young one said as his knees began to feel a bit weak. The bottomless chasm in his eyes was gone...replaced with a softer, more innocent look, at least for now.
Blaine nodded and picked Novus up gently, as if he were afraid he would break him. Blaine, too, was becoming sleepy. He quickly made his way up the stairs and into the bedroom that he set up for Novus. After setting Novus on his feet, Blaine began to undress. "I love you, little one..."
Outside, Alexis sat on the top of Blaine's mansion. She didn't feel sleepy at all. She faced the dawn, as she had done so many times in her life, eager for the sun to rise once more.
"I love you too, Blaine, my master, my lover," Novus said, speech slightly slowed by sleepiness. He pulled off his clothes and crawled under the covers on the bed. He didn't close his eyes yet, instead watching Blaine with his ice-blue gaze.
Blaine slid under the covers too, curling his arms around Novus, holding him close to his still chest. He would remain this way for as long as it took for Novus to trust him once more, if he didn't already. Blaine was deeply ashamed of the night's events. They seemed to have lasted days and, for once, he was glad that the night was over.
Spike, on the other hand, lingered outside, casting death glares in the direction of Blaine's mansion. He was indeed being foolish. The sun was beginning to peek over the horizon but, for some reason, he wasn't sleepy. He even refused to seek out shelter. Maybe by melting into dust he would find his own peace. Maybe.
Alexis sensed Spike still out in the village below and smirked. Spike was in for a surprise. The one who had Turned him, she had Turned herself. Spike thought he might find peace in death. All he would find were sore eyes. Not that she wanted him to live. She just thought that it was cruel to deny death when one wanted it.
The sun rose within the half hour, peeking up over the forested hills. By that time Novus was dead asleep, completely still within Blaine's embrace.
