Loving Mia
Meet The Parents
Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day. Kale ended up taking Mia out to the lake behind their house to fish. One of things he and Aidan loved most about Mia was her versatile ways. Even though Aidan and Kale spent a lot of time together, they still had their own way of enjoying their free time. Kale was more of an outdoor man. He liked to fish, hunt, hike, jog, play basketball, and anything else that gave him a chance to be outside and be active. Aidan, on the other hand, was more of an indoors man. His idea of having a good time was shopping for expensive clothes, dining at expensive restaurants, socializing at different parties or going to the museum and theatre. It didn't matter to him, as long as it costs a lot of money and it was inside. Mia loved being outside because she was raised in a small town in the country and she loved dressing up and going out with Aidan as well. She had to admit, she had the best of both worlds and her men were too perfect to be real for her.
She lay on the grass with her hands behind her head staring up at the sun. It was one of those rare clear days in San Francisco. The sun shining down on her kept her warm in the mild cool breeze. She wore blue jean cut off shorts and a short sleeved white shirt that showed off her midriff. A large shadow hovered over her. She smiled up at Kale who was staring down at her. He was dressed in blue jeans, but wasn't wearing a shirt. This man was too fine for his own good, Mia thought, out here looking like a sexy Native American with that long black hair and smooth tanned skin.
"Damn, you look good enough to eat," he grinned sitting beside her and stretching out his long muscular legs. He ran a finger down her bare stomach, noticing the way her chocolate brown skin glistened in the sunlight. A devilish smiled appeared on his lips; suddenly he bent down and licked her stomach. "Mmmm!"
Mia laughed and playfully pulled on his long hair. "Stop! That tickles!"
Kale scooped her up in his arms and sat her in his lap. Mia straddled him, her legs wrapped around his waist. "What is it about you that keep me craving for you all the time? Mia, you're like an addiction to me," Kale said as he stared into her beautiful brown eyes. His fingers caressed the sides of her face and ran through her long wavy locks.
"Is that good or bad?" Mia asked smiling at him.
"I think both," Kale said staring at her thick luscious lips.
"Yeah, I know the feeling," Mia mumbled as he bent forward to kiss her. Mia's heart skipped a beat. This wasn't one of Kale's hard passionate kisses that he usually gave her. This one was sweet, tender, loving. His lips brushed softly over hers, the tip of his tongue stroked her bottom lip fleetingly causing Mia's heart to beat faster.
"I thought you two were suppose to be fishing," Aidan's voice appeared behind them.
Kale growled. "You're ruining our moment."
Mia laughed and stared at Aidan. He was wearing dress pants and an undershirt. It looked like he was getting dressed and had stopped. She shook her head. "You just don't know how to relax do you, Aidan? Why are you in those pants?"
He looked down as if he didn't see anything wrong with wearing them outside.
"You'll never get him in jeans, Mia. He's conservative to the bone."
Mia grinned. "I see a challenge coming on," she teased.
Aidan sat beside them in the grass in his dress pants. He grabbed a pole that was stuck in the ground. "So, what do I do with this thing?"
"You've never fished before?" Mia asked in shocked.
"No, Kale does it. I just stay in the house and watch tv until he finishes."
The end of the pole he was holding began to twitch. "Aidan, I think you got something!" Mia said suddenly jumping up and pushing Kale away. He glared at Aidan.
"It's really moving!" Aidan said. He stood up holding on to the pole tightly. A grin spread across his face.
"You have to reel it in, you idiot, don't just stand there holding it!" Kale said exasperated.
"Kale, be nice!" Mia told him. She knew he was still holding a grudge against Aidan for nearly screwing things up between them. Both of her men were very clingy to her today. She hadn't realized the serious affect her spat with Aidan still had on both of them. It would take a while for them to get over it. She helped Aidan reel in the fish. It was a big one! She loved the way his blue eyes lit up excitedly when he saw it. It was the first genuine show of happiness he'd shown her since last night.
Mia took the fish off the pole and held it up for Aidan to see, the line and hook were still attached to its mouth.
"Fascinating," Aidan said leaning in closer to take a look at the fish wiggling violently.
"Aidan don't get too close!" Mia warned him, but it was too late. The large bass slapped Aidan in the face with its tail.
Mia and Kale heard a loud SMACK and watched Aidan go down. They stared at him in shock as he lay on his back with a bewildered look on his face.
"Damn! You just got knocked the hell out by a fish!" Kale said and was the first to burst out laughing.
Mia couldn't stop herself. Poor Aidan just lay there with a red face as she went into a fit of giggles. He turned to look at his shades that were lying on the ground broken.
"I paid $500.00 for those shades," he mumbled.
For some reason his comment only made Mia laugh harder.
He frowned up at her. "Oh you think it's funny, do you?"
Mia watched him slowly get up. His eyes twinkled like he was up to something. "You know I think I need to wash off in the lake, my face probably smells like fish or better yet, let's go skinny dipping."
"Hell yeah!" Kale jumped up a little too excited at the idea.
Mia eyes widened as she watched Kale began to unfasten his fly. Aidan was walking to her. She threw the fish down and ran.
Aidan laughed and began to chase after her.
"Mia, get your little ass back here so we can strip you naked and throw you into the lake!" She heard Kale yelling behind her.
As if she was going to let them do that! They'd have to catch her first. She made her way up the hill towards the house. She might be little, but she could run. She laughed loudly and looked back at Aidan who was gaining on her. She made her way around the front of the house, looking forward to him chasing her around it when she nearly ran into two ladies who were standing in the yard.
"Oh my!" A woman with long black hair and dark eyes said as Mia stopped herself from crashing into her. The other one had blonde hair pinned up on top of her head and light blue eyes. She regarded Mia with distaste.
Mia stared at the middle age women who had to be in their late fifties look her up and down. They were dressed in expensive clothing and wore too much jewelry and make up for their ages. Her stomach hit rock bottom when she realized they resembled Kale and Aidan. Oh god! These people were Kale and Aidan parents, and here she was dressed in cut off shorts and short t-shirt that showed her stomach and she probably smelled like fish. How embarrassing!
"Aidan! Oh Aidan!" The blonde woman looked relieved to see him.
Aidan stopped in his tracks, shocked at seeing his mother with Mia standing in front of them looking very embarrassed. He glanced at Kale who was making his way up the hill. "Kale, you're not going to believe this, but it seems Mia has finally met our parents." He told him when he got close enough for him to hear him.
"No, no, no! Hell no!" Kale moaned and quickly zipped his fly. "We don't need this right now."
"Let's just try to be cool for Mia's sake," Aidan said as they walked towards their parents together.
"I'm never cool around them," Kale said. "They're going to say something stupid and it's going to be all over."
"Aidan, Kale what are you two up to?" Kale's mother asked with a smile when she saw them.
"We're just enjoying a day outside, mom," Kale said and stood behind Mia. He pulled her against him and wrapped an arm around her waist.
Both women raised an eyebrow. "Well, your "help" nearly ran into us. You should tell her not to run around. I know people of her culture like to wildly run around, but this is a civilized place," Aidan's mother said.
A vein popped out on the side of Aidan's forehead although he had a calm look on his face. "Mother, this is Mia Shannon, our girlfriend. She's not "the help." Mia, these are our parents, Evelyn Adair and Elizabeth Brayden."
Mia smiled at them politely trying her best to ignore the comment about her being "the help". She didn't want to do anything to make Kale and Aidan uncomfortable since this was an unexpected meeting with their parents. "Nice to meet you," she said trying to not notice the stunned look on their faces. Aidan's mother looked like she was about to faint.
"Why don't we go in," Aidan said quickly and put his arm around his mother. He gave Mia an apologetic look as he escorted her inside the house.
Kale watched both women walk in with Aidan and stayed behind with Mia. "Mia," he turned her around to face him. "We never got the chance to explain our parents to you."
She crossed her arms and stared up at him. "Oh I don't think you need to explain a thing," she said dryly.
"I'm sorry you had to meet them this way. We were trying to wait until we spent more time together before we introduced them to you. We also wanted to prepare you for their personalities."
"I'm from the south; I can pretty much handle anything they dish out. I'll play it cool, but I won't let them bash me into the ground. It is a shock though, seeing how you and Aidan are very accepting of my race and having parents that aren't."
"We're nothing like them, baby. They tried to teach us to be like them, but we have minds of our own. If they insult you, feel free to insult them back, if you won't I will," Kale said. "Please don't hold back on my account."
Mia smiled. "I knew I loved you for a reason, but still I won't give them the satisfaction of pissing me off if they start with me. We'll see who's more civilized in there."
The two women whispered amongst themselves as they sat in the formal living room. They'd waited patiently for Kale, Aidan and Mia to shower and change into more presentable clothes.
"Mia, please don't let them get to you," Aidan told her before she went into the room. He looked at her in concern. He was worried about how this very uncomfortable situation would turn out. "They're very outspoken women."
"Don't worry about me, Aidan. I'm pretty outspoken myself," Mia told him and walked into the room.
The two women were drinking tea when the three of them entered. Mia sat across from them on the couch, Kale and Aidan sat on each of her sides like two guardians. Aidan's mother was the first to speak. "Well, Mia please accept my apology, by the way you were dressed and running around I thought Aidan and Kale had finally hired help around the house. I've always told them they needed servants to run this big place, not just a maid."
"No problem," Mia said dryly.
"I'm sorry, but Aidan, did you say this young lady was "our" girlfriend, as in you and Kale's?"
Aidan smiled and glanced at Mia. "Yes Mrs. Brayden."
"But, I don't understand how you could possibly share one woman..." Mrs. Brayden said.
"Mom, just deal with it okay. Mia belongs to both of us and we share her just fine," Kale said.
"Aidan, the reason we're hear is because we heard that you had a young woman on your arm the other night and were telling everyone she was your lady. I was so thrilled. Elizabeth and I were so worried you two were never going to get serious and settle down with any woman. I'm sorry that we came here unannounced but I really wanted to speak with you and you never answer my calls. Unfortunately, no one told us the details about what type of woman you were with. I believe that was a joke on us." Mrs. Adair sat her tea on the table. "I'm sorry, but this is unacceptable. Aidan, Kale we've raised you better than this! You boys have grown up to become very successful respectable businessmen why do you want to ruin your reputation by flaunting around with a Negro that you're both sleeping with?"
"Negro?" Mia asked. "Who even uses that word anymore? Get with the latest century, ma'am. I'm called an African-American; you can even say I'm a black woman, a black woman who's dating your sons!"
Mrs. Adair face turned extremely red.
"Mother, her name is Mia, not Negro, if you say that word again, I will have to throw you both out," Aidan told her. "I understand that this is shocking news to both of you, being the fact that Mia's African-American and the fact that Kale and I are both dating her, but I'm going to tell you to choose your words wisely and show Mia the class you claim you have."
"Look at you, talking to your mother that way!" Mrs. Adair said, she turned to Kale's mother. "It's your son's fault you know."
"What?" Mrs. Brayden stared at her in disbelief.
"Kale has always been wild; it was against my better judgment to let him be friends with Aidan. Now look, he's rubbed off on Aidan, my son would never do such a thing like this if Kale wasn't around."
"Listen up you withered up old hussy!" Mrs. Brayden stood up and pointed her finger in Mrs. Adair face. "I am sick and tired of you talking down about my son. If it wasn't for social reasons, I would have never become friends with you! Your son has a mind of his own and we couldn't stop them from being friends in college even if we tried. Stop trying to blame every bad decision your son makes on my boy!"
Kale leaned over Mia to whisper to Aidan. "Why the hell did you tell them Mia was with both of us when you wanted people to think she was only with you at the party? Just knowing she's black was enough for now."
"Why not?" Aidan asked. "They're going to find out sooner or later. Besides, they'll be too embarrassed to tell anyone. Everyone knows Mia is a different race from us and the only people who are creating a fuss about it is our parents."
"Hello, I'm right here!" Mia glared at them for having the nerves to talk about her as if she wasn't there.
Mrs. Brayden turned to Mia. "Honey, I'm sure you're a very nice girl, but what could you possibly contribute to our sons? Are you wealthy? Do you have a college degree? Are any of your family members in prison?"
"Mom!" Kale yelled out. "I can't believe you're asking Mia those things. Mia you don't have to answer to her."
"Kale, as a mother, it's my duty to look out for you, this young lady could be a gold digger and you're too blind to see that."
"I actually have a bachelors' degree in business, none of my family members are in prison and even though I'm not as rich as your sons, I'm not a gold digger," Mia said. "In fact, your sons were the ones who made it very clear that they wanted me. I had my doubts at first, like you, I worried about us being from different races and I worried about being with two men at once, in the end, I stopped fighting against myself and accepted that I love both of them, more than anything."
Mrs. Brayden tilted her head at Mia curiously as if trying to figure out what to make of her response.
Mrs. Adair sneered. "I just bet you do love them. After all, a minority like you must feel she's accomplished something by having two rich white men."
Whoa, Mia thought, that statement struck home. She'd never seen her relationship with Kale and Aidan from that point of view. Would everyone think that about her?
The moment they saw Mia lower her head, Kale and Aidan looked at each other, this meeting was over. They were not about to let their parents damage their fragile relationship with Mia. Aidan stood up.
"Look you two, I know you are our parents and you grew up in a different time than we, but Mia is here to stay. She's not going anywhere. Now you can learn to accept her or you can walk away and don't ever show your face here again. I think Mia has taken enough of your abuse for one day, you should apologize to her for everything you've said."
"I'm not apologizing for speaking my mind," Mrs. Adair said.
"In that case, Mia do you have anything to say?" Kale said turning to Mia.
She raised her head and smiled. "Well, I'm not sure, but the last time we were together, we didn't use protection and I'm definitely going through a fertile stage right now. I just might be pregnant by your sons. I guess we'll have to wait and see."
Kale and Aidan stared at her in shock. Aidan grabbed her and hugged her tightly. "I hope so. I want a child by you so badly."
Kale hugged her from behind. "It doesn't matter if it's a boy or girl, just give us a baby, Mia."
"If you're pregnant then one of us most definitely got to marry you very soon!" Aidan said.
"Oh no! Oh no!" Mrs. Brayden yelled causing them to turn around.
Mrs. Adair lay on the couch completely passed out. Mrs. Brayden was panicking and fanning her with her hand.
Mia smiled. She was a bad, bad girl for even bringing it up, but revenge was so sweet. She just hoped Kale and Aidan didn't go too far with her announcement and get depressed if she wasn't pregnant. Knowing those two, they'd probably want to try again.
