Pounced

It was dark. Looking up, the swirling starry sky was gone and replaced by a cloudy, less starry blanket, lit up by a waning moon.

I blinked and observed my surroundings. I was back in the junk yard, but why? It wasn’t morning yet and I didn’t want to leave Mooncrest either, did I? Perhaps I accidentally willed the Unseelie to return me to earth. I had never had anyone thank me for anything, nor cry on my shoulder. I suppose there was a chance that I had gotten nervous in the unusual situation and unconsciously made myself return.

The last thing I recall was standing silently as the man wept on my shoulders for a moment. It was just when Chase had released me did I suddenly find myself back home.

“Where are you Sidhe?” I called out, hoping the shadow would show up.

Nothing of the sort happened and I became distraught. I wanted to know if the shadow being had anything to do with why I had suddenly been able to heal Blake. But if it didn’t show up, then my question would have to go unanswered until tomorrow night.

A siren suddenly cut through the night, startling me. It sounded as though it was coming from the road just beyond the hill to the east of the junkyard. Naturally, my first instinct was to run from it, but then stopped myself as I tried to think.

‘I’m not Jack anymore, I’m Shane Singer.’ I told myself. ‘Shane didn’t do anything bad, so he shouldn’t have to run. The police are helping him.’

Taking in a deep breath I walked out to the road and began pacing myself along the sidewalk. Eventually, a cop car pulled up beside me. The window rolled down and out popped a chubby face, tiny eyes squinting as they tried to focus on me.

“Shane?”

“Yeah?” I answered.

The butterball’s expression lightened up into a smile as he grabbed a hold of a walkie talkie attached to his dashboard.

“Hey Carter! I found him!” He shouted into it.

There was a bit of static, making it too hard to understand.

“One minute, can’t hear a thing.” The officer said then kicked the radio, eliminating the static somehow.

“Can you hear me now?” I heard Carter’s voice on the other end.

“Loud and clear. We’re on the corner of Benbrook and Pavilion Avenue. Right where Molly’s dress shop is.”

“On my way.” Carter responded just before the line went silent.

I faced the officer with the most innocent look I could conjure and deepened my voice. “What’s going on?” I asked.

“You’re in a heap of trouble, that’s what’s going on.” The officer answered. “You went plowing out of the police station like some one was after you! Carter thought you were being threatened by someone to be acting like that. He said you’ve been acting strange lately and when he heard that you just up and bolted from the station, he assumed you were caught up in something. Now whether you are or aren’t you’re gonna have to explain a few more things when Carter gets here. I’ve never seen him so upset in my life!”

“Oh…But, I’m not caught up in anything though…” I tried to explain. “I, I kind of thought I saw something in the lounge room is all…”

“What? A spider? Even if it was, you were in a police station! You could have seen a serial killer in there and still have been safe, you were surrounded by cops!”

I stayed silent. I knew this guy would think I was insane if I tried to fake and say I thought I saw a ghost.

We were quiet from then on. When Carter did arrive he was in another cop car, only this one didn’t have its siren sounding. The car screeched to a halt just in front of the officer’s and the man stepped out in a huff. The way he approached me said that he was extremely peeved.

“Officer Carter! That didn’t take you long now did it?” The officer addressed the man.

Carter utterly ignored him and roughly grabbed me by the hand. Was I not already accustomed to having other people do that to me I might have thought it hurt. I didn’t even say a word as he dragged me to the car and shoved me into the front passenger seat.

The door slammed and he got in and started the engine. I barely had time to buckle in before we drove off.

“Glad I could help.” Crackled a familiar voice on the walkie talkie.

I looked into the rear view mirror to find that it was the other officer speaking through his own radio.

“Thanks Larry.” Chase acknowledged his statement and shut the machine off.

He was obviously boiling mad, but was doing his best not to show it. He drove with a steady hand, eyes front, and back straight. I on the other hand, sat slumped over with my eyes on him.

Things were like that for a while. Quiet and angry. At least I was ready if things got out of hand.

“What were you doing?” He finally spoke.

“…”

“Answer me!” He snapped. “There are rapists and murderers out here at this time of night! What could you have possibly been doing that was so important for you to put yourself at that much risk?”

I swallowed hard, unable to think of an actual lie. “I, I went to an alternate world on the North Star to magically heal a starving man?”

He suddenly slammed on the breaks. My body pressed against the seat belt and I was slammed back into my seat as we stopped. Carter’s hands were gripping the steering wheel with extreme force as his head hung down. He was doing everything he could to keep calm.

“Hit me if it’ll make you feel better.” I muttered to him. I didn’t really care if he hated me. Even if this man was nice to me, I know that the reality was that he hated my guts and would sooner bash my head in than be this nice to me if he knew the truth.

Carters grip on the steering wheel suddenly lightened and he seemed to sag a little in his seat.

“Why won’t you talk to me…?” He asked. “Why is it you seem to look at me like I’m you’re enemy?”

You really wanna know? I thought, but stayed quiet.

“I’ve done so much to get on your good side. I thought I was getting through a little.” When he faced me, it was with anguish in his eyes. “Even though you wouldn’t tell me what was wrong and why you were acting so frightened, I thought that if I waited and gave you more time, you’d open up to me. But…I didn’t think you’d run off on your own. If someone was after you, why didn’t you tell me? I can help!”

“No one is after me.” I whispered. “I just got scared…”

He looked at me and I averted my eyes.

“You’re parents aren’t gonna come back to look for you, are they?” He asked, keeping his attention on me.

It was such a change of topic I almost didn’t know what he was talking about. “Why would you say that?”

“Because it’s been more than a week yet they haven’t come back nor called. On top of that, we can’t find any records of them being near by.”

I wonder why…” Well, we travel a lot.” I answered eyes down. “We don’t live in any one place for too long.”

“They left you here all by yourself without filing a missing persons report.” The man stated.

The pieces then began to fall together as I prepared to extend the lie. “I guess they might not come back. We lived on the road and I always said I wanted to move out. We had an argument before they sent me out to get directions so I guess they probably figured I had dumped them and went out to find a place to live around here.”

Carter appeared satisfied with that explanation. “So, technically, you may be on your own now?”

Judging by his tone I could tell he wasn’t mad anymore.

“Well, I am eighteen.”

“... That would explain a few things then…”

“Like what?” I couldn’t help but wonder.

“Being put out on your own for the first time can be scary, especially when you don’t actually see it coming. Acting irrational and frightened is only natural.”

In other words, he was finding his own explanation for my recent behavior.

He suddenly smiled down at me. “I don’t suppose the lounge of a police station was you’re dream home was it?”

I giggled. I couldn’t help it. For some reason I didn’t see that coming. “I guess so.” I attempted to say as he chuckled cautiously.

“So what are you going to do now?” He asked. “It’s been over week and they have yet to of come back. Obviously there’s a chance that they left you here on your own, and you can’t just live in the station forever.”

“I don’t know.” I answered. “I don’t have any money, and no place to go.”

We were both silent for a bit. The man sat and concentrated on his thumbs as he spun them around each other on the steering wheel. Suddenly he looked down at me.

“How’s about you come live with me? At least until you get on you’re feet?”

I froze. Of course he’d bring that up! Why didn’t I think of that?

“No thanks.” I smiled nervously. “I’ll figure something else out.”

“Really.” He leaned towards me. “I mean it. If you really wanted to, you could come live with me.”

I felt uncomfortable in this situation.

“It’s alright, really.” I couldn’t stop my nervous voice from wavering.

Carter’s eyes widened for a split second. Before I knew it, he had leaned over me and pushed down the lever of my seat, causing it to lean back against the wall that separated the back end where the convicts normally sat. He placed his arms on either side of my head and looked me in the eye.

Although I’m sure it didn’t go as fast as it felt like it had, I didn’t have time to react as he did this. All I could do was swallow hard and hope this wasn’t leading to what it seemed like it was.

“Let me hear you’re voice.” He suddenly asked, changing the subject.

“What?”

“You’re voice. Every time you speak to me I noticed that you deepen it. I suppose you do that to make yourself sound more mature, but I want to know what you really sound like. I want to know if you’re voice is as beautiful as you are.”

My eyes widened. What….The ……Hell………..

“Where’s this coming from all of a sudden? Why…..why are you talking to me like that? You shouldn’t say those kinds of things to me!”

“Why not?” He then asked in a strangely husky tone.

“Just cuz! I don’t know!” I placed my hands on his chest and attempted to push him off. “St-stop it!”

I was weak and knew there was no way I could ever successfully push him off, yet I tried anyway. He didn’t budge and loomed over me, examining my expression. Slowly, he began to descend, and I was unable to turn my head as his hot, rapid breath caressed my mouth and cheeks carrying with it the scent of citrus. The sudden feel of his lips so lightly touching mine tickled a little, reminding me of when his thumb had been there not too long ago. His left knee began to slide up my right leg seductively as he lifted it to rest on the seat between my thighs, pressing against my groin firmly. At that moment I felt an unfamiliar warmth begin to flood that particular area, causing my body to shiver. He then commenced to knead me with his knee. My face grew hot and my eyes grew heavy, all the while I was becoming more and more aware of the strange pressure building between my thighs. I felt an overpowering urge to tighten my legs around Carter’s knee and supply myself with more of this delicious sensation.

My hands balled into fists on his chest and I had to fight the urge to lightly arch upwards as he suddenly pressed against me even more, giving my body what it wanted.

Why am I reacting like this? I need to fight him! But why can’t I get my body to respond the way I want it to?

Carter then lifted his face a fraction of an inch, and buried his head in my neck. A small, startled sigh escaped me as I felt something hot and moist cover the area where my neck and shoulder connected.

“Ddddoo…..Dddooon…Ddddoonnnt…” I moaned, attempting to say ‘Don’t’.

I couldn’t understand what was happening to my body. My legs were spreading against my better judgment and I found that I could no longer resist pressing against him, causing a searing heat to ignite between my legs. My inner voice was screaming at me to fight it, but my body wasn’t reacting to what I was trying to get it to do. I wanted to shout and tell him to get off, but the things he was doing to me dulled my ability to move properly and I was all the more falling before the waves of pleasure he was causing to shoot though my body.

“Sssstt…sssstoo……sss..” I tried to say stop, but found my voice to be hindered.

His tongue then led a trail up towards the underside of my left ear. No matter how hard I tried to resist, I couldn’t stop myself from tilting my head to allow him more room.

I felt his left hand then slip under my back and pull me upwards. Lifting me off the seat and pressing the whole of my upper body against his chest.

I was accustomed to pain and misery, not…this! This was the one thing I was not prepared for, nor had any experience in! How am I supposed to defend against this?

Focusing the remaining control I had over my body to my arms, I feebly pushed up against Carter one last time. He seemed to pause for a moment, barely even noticing.

Before I knew it, he got off and returned to his seated position beside me. “I’m sorry. I guess I have a few things to learn about self control huh?” His voice was heavy and panting.

I was still lying in my seat, dazed. The heat that had built up between my legs pulsed strongly with the extra blood which had been directed to it, making it all the more sensitive. My entire body felt hot and tired. I found it nearly impossible to focus on anything as the world blurred before my eyes. My throat suddenly felt dry and the need for more pressure continued to persist.

Carter was watching me, scanning over the entirety of my body with extremely interested eyes. I could tell he wanted to pounce on me again, yet he stayed where he was.

“Uuuuhhhhhnnnnhhhh.” I moaned as my body suddenly shivered again. “Wwhhh…wh…Why...did...you do that?” I finally managed to form actual words.

“Not really sure, but…” He looked at me admiringly, lust still clearly shining in his eyes. “I, I guess because I wanted to?”

“But why!?” I asked, slowly but surly recuperating from the shock to my body. “Why would you do that?”

“Would you believe me if I said it was because I’m attracted to you.”

“…What?” I asked. Slowly I attempted to sit up and look him in the eye. “How?”
“Because, you’re just so adorable. I can’t help myself sometimes. Living in this town I’ve never seen a single decent looking person, if they’re not too fat, their too boney or old. I mean it. Please don’t hate me for that. I’ve been holding back the best I could when I’m alone with you lately. I don’t really know what made me loose it just now, but believe me when I say it won’t happen again.”

My head felt like it was spinning. Officer Carter, was attracted to me? But how could that be possible? No one ever liked me before, let alone in that way.

Carter then started the car. “My offer is still open. You can come live with me any time you want.”

I was positive by now that I was never going to be stupid enough as to accept that offer.
