Marianela sat in Akira’s tree house. She held onto the pillow that was on the couch and sighed. The door opened and Jett sighed, “Well damn I’ve been looking for you everywhere.”
“I wonder if Akira is okay.”
“Mitch trusts him so he should be safe.”
“I know. Do you think his wings are out already?”
“He has been busy lately. I think he’ll call and tell you if they did.”
“One and a half months to go. I miss making his breakfast.”
“And I bet he misses it to.”
She smiled and stood up. “Your right, he always asks me to make them for him when he wakes up.” The blonde grinned and Jett sighed as she tossed the pillow down and ran out of the tree house.
~~~~~~
The blanket shifted and something sat up underneath it. Pulling the blanket off his head Akira looked around. It was the middle of the night and he was wide awake. Now that he thought about it why was he sweating when the room was cold? He sat there and listened, who was breathing heavily. It was him and his body felt like it was on fire. “Shit…” Placing his feet on the ground he tried to walk only he tripped on Zev’s legs and ended up sprawled out on the floor.
Zev jerked awake and looked at Akira on the floor. “Akira?” He could hear the heavy breathing and then Akira’s whole body curled in on its self.
His eyes were squeezed shut. Akira could taste copper as he bit down on his lip to keep from screaming. The pain came as soon as his body hit the ground. It was a searing pain that had him on the verge of crying out for it to stop. It was the worse pain he had felt in his whole life. His arms wrapped around his torso and his nails bit into his skin.
“Akira?” A hand touched his shoulder and he flinched. He heard the sound of the door opening and then there was talking and he felt his body being lifted off the ground.
“Turn the water on.”
His body was laid down and then cold water hit his body, it jerked and he cursed, ‘Shit!’
“Akira, open your mouth.”
He shook his head, and someone was trying to force his mouth open. Akira tried to pull his head away but it was held there. Then he felt something being pushed into his mouth. “This way you don’t put a hole in your tongue.”
His hands were moved from his sides and placed on the edge of something. Then the pain subsided and he loosened his death grip on the edge of whatever it was. He opened his eyes and found himself in the bathroom, inside of the tub. Daisuke was looking at him and Zev was standing by the door towels in his arms.
“Listen to me Akira.” His eyes looked at him. “I have only one minute to tell you something important. It’s going to hurt and it will most likely last all night. There is no way to stop the pain, it will happen. Once it does you’ll most likely pass out like most do, if you don’t then your stronger than most.” Daisuke’s face was blank and for a second he saw a flicker of emotion, it made him wonder what was going on. “It’s been years since you’ve had them out and months since the time they were forced out. That seal is going to disappear tonight. You may remember some things you don’t want to remember but it’s because of the seal.” He reached over and turned the shower off. “Since it’s been so long it will be messy. Don’t worry you’ll be okay.”
After that Daisuke stood and walked out of the bathroom. For some reason he could help the fear that he felt, ‘What is going on?’
Zev saw the fear in his eyes and he wanted to go over but he remembered what he had said. So he sat on the ground and smiled. “I’ll stay right here till it’s over.”
Akira smiled and hung his head. His whole body was numb and then the pain was back. ‘Son of a bitch!’
The wolf sat there, he watched as Akira’s whole body tensed and how his hands gripped the tub’s edge. He didn’t scream or make a sound as his body shook, Zev couldn’t take his eyes off of him.
The brunette didn’t know how long it had been since it started and when it would end was just as much a mystery. The longer it lasted the worse it got and the more he wished he’d pass out. His nails clawed at the tub and then his back started to burn. His eyes opened and he saw Zev looking at him, he lowered his head. He couldn’t pass out.
“How’s it going?”
Zev looked up to see Cyan standing there. “I don’t know. He’s still awake.”
“Damn, if he’s lasted this long…” He looked at Akira’s back. “I hope it doesn’t ruin those tattoos.”
“You're not the only one.” The male muttered.
“Looks like it just started.”
Just as he said that Akira let out a muffled scream as the skin on his back stretched and two wings ripped out of his back. His eyes were wide and his whole body bowed, then he slumped over the edge of the tub. Zev looked at the blood that dripped from the white and black wings and down his back.
“Or I could be wrong.”
“It’s only been two hours.”
Akira’s arms lay limp over the edge and Cyan walked over to turn on the water. The cold water hit Akira’s body and his body gave a weak jerk. The cloth fell from his mouth, “Zev…”
“I’m right here.”
“okay…”
Cyan called out the door and Daisuke walked in, “Akira.”
“I’m… kay…” Daisuke lightly laid his hand on Akira’s head. “I… need… smoke…”
“No smoking for you.”
Zev smiled as Akira grew quiet. “Akira.”
“He’s asleep.”
The older brunette looked at him, “How do you know?”
“His whole body relaxed and he would of snapped back after you said that.”
Cyan glanced at the wings, “There the opposite.”
“Huh?”
“The tattoos are the opposite.”
“That would be Mitch’s sense of humor.” Daisuke muttered as moved Akira. “Damn boy is lighter than me.” He had moved him to where Akira was laying in the tub on his side. The wings hung limp and Daisuke frowned. “Cyan, get your dad.”
“Which one?”
“The girly one.”
“Oh mama.”
His head turned and Cyan gave a sheepish grin, “Get the pain in the ass of a friend!”
“Yes.” He ran out of the bathroom.
“What’s wrong?”
“I’m just worried about his wings.” He turned the water off and watched as the bloody water drained. Zev handed him a towel and he started to dry Akira’s hair. “Why do you like him?”
He glanced at Daisuke, “What do you mean?”
“I’m not dumb boy.”
“Boy? I’m probably older then you.”
Daisuke smirked and looked at him, “I know about how a wolf ages. Your still a young adult in wolf years, about the same as Akira.”
“Damn.”
“Now tell me why you like him.”
“Why do you want to know?”
“I’m still his father, I worry about him and when Mitch told me had found him alive, I was glad. I’m not going to lose him a second time.” His black eyes looked at Zev and the wolf sighed. “So, you going to tell me?”
“I don’t know. I just feel bored when he’s not around.” He caught the dark glare from Daisuke. “Not in that way! I help my dad track down Rouges and Akira was hired by someone to hunt them down. So he started helping us out, but sometimes there are the ones that don’t want to come along calmly and he has his rules to follow just as I have mine. Sometimes he knocks them out or he kills them.” Daisuke looked at Akira. “That’s how we really got to know each other. I guess I fell for him along the way, he’s poised and deadly when it comes to fighting and he knows when to hold back and when not to.” He folded the towel up and placed it under Akira’s head.
Zev smiled and sat there as he looked at Akira, “Mitch wants to know the same thing, and I just want to know how he found out about Asta.”
“Who’s Asta?”
“Someone I met years ago. We were going to get married when she graduated; she was a year younger than me.” He leaned against the wall. “It was an accident, the car had died. So I pushed it to the side of the road. It was a dirt area on the bend and she was sitting in the drivers helping me out. As the car finally started she wanted to drive so I got in on the other side. We were getting ready to pull back onto the road when the other guy’s car came out of nowhere and collided head on into the car.” He looked at Zev’s face. “When I came to in the hospital, Keir was sitting there and when I saw his face I was worried. Mom was crying and dad was grim faced. I got out with a broken arm and a few cuts, but she lost her life.” The wolf looked at Akira and then smiled. “I fell for a human and lost her. I knew I’d lose her but I thought it was because she’d died of old age not because of a head on collision with a drunk.”
“Do you miss her?”
“All the time.” He smiled. “I must be getting over her death because I forgot to go visit her grave and I find myself thinking of Akira more than her.”
Daisuke gave a smile and shook his head, “And how do I know you’re not lying?”
“I guess you’ll have to trust me.” Zev pushed himself up and walked out of the room.
“He is a weird one.” He looked at Akira. “I still can’t get over Ellen.” The older brunette finished drying Akira off and stood up. There was a knock on the wall and he looked back, Cyan was looking at him.
“I brought him.”
“Okay.” He gently picked Akira up and carried him out of the room. The clothes he wore were still wet and it was better than having dried blood all over him. He placed Akira on the living area floor on his stomach.
Looking up he saw a tall male looking at him. He had long pale gray hair that was tied back and was very feminine looking. Two pale green eyes glared at him, he had a white shirt and a pair of faded pants. “What’s so damn important that you had to wake me up this early?”
Daisuke gestured to Akira’s still body. “You remember him. Tell me if he can use them.”
“Wow. He’s wings have gotten bigger, there bigger than yours.”
“I can see that.” It came out as a growl.
“You’re an ass Daisuke.”
“You’re a pain in mine, Tito.”
“Boys!” Flare was standing in the hallway looking at them both. “Do what you came to do.”
“Fine.” Tito walked over and gently spread out the wings. He moved his hands along the bone till it met the skin on the back. The sigh he gave put Daisuke on edge.
“What is it?”
“Something’s not right. They were only underdeveloped but useable the last time I saw them.”
Daisuke growled.
“It’s like someone tried to rip his wings out of the sockets, or a better phrase they tried to clip them.”
“Can they be fixed?”
“I don’t know.” He stood up and looked at Daisuke he was gripping the table edge. “I need to go get some stuff.”
“Don’t let anyone know about him.”
“Okay.”
Zev was standing around the corner when he had heard it. ‘He has them but he might not be able to use them. What sick bastard would do such a thing?’
Akira winced as he came too, his back was sore and it was quiet. He moved his arms and pushed himself up. “Nngh… damn my body hurts.”
There was talking and he looked at the window. He could see Daisuke and another person talking, “Your awake.”
Looking over he saw Zev sitting on the couch. “Who…?”
“He was looking at your wings.”
“My… oh yeah…” He yelped as his head started to pound, his hands clutched at his head.
“You can’t take them!” A woman had grabbed him and was holding him in her arms. “If you take them he won’t be able to fly.”
“I’m not going to take them just make it to where he can’t escape.”
Hands reached out to take him and he started to scream, “Don’t touch me! Don’t let him touch them! I want to show him I can fly now!”
Akira shoved the hands away, “Don’t take them!” Two hands firmly grabbed his arms and he came face to face with a male with pale green eyes and pale gray hair. His brows drew in together, “Who the hell are you?”
“Charming.”
Daisuke was laughing.
“They act so much alike.”
“Ellen would be proud!”
Zev was sitting next to him, “You really scared me.”
“What did I do?”
“You started shouting for him not to take your wings.”
“I’m not going to take them. We’re trying to fix them, if we can’t you might lose them.” He looked at Daisuke. “We need a larger space.”
He nodded and kicked the wall he was leaning against. A panel slid over and you could see a door, “The basement should be big enough.”
“This place has a basement?” Akira and Zev both had to ask and Daisuke sighed.
“Get down there.”
As they stepped into the basement Akira looked around. It was large enough to fit a family in it. “Me and your mother use to use this place to do our work in.” Akira walked further into the room there was emergency supplies, food rations and weapons all on one wall. “Tito was the medic and Cyan’s real father helped out also.”
Tito glared at Daisuke, “You're so nice.”
The older brunette waved him off, “It’s the truth.”
“Ass.”
“Pain.”
“Stop acting like kids.” Flare was looking back and forth between the two; Cyan was just shaking his head.
“Will you two get along long enough to help Akira?”
“Fine.” It came out as a grumble.
Zev slid over to Akira and looked at him. “Well?”
“I’m still not use to the idea.”
He nodded, “If it was me I’d flip.”
“Really?”
“Yes, even though it’s a pain in the ass.”
“Really?” The male smirked and Zev scowled.
“Akira, come over here and lay down.” He walked over and sat on the low table. “On your stomach.”
“Fine.” He still didn’t like the idea of people touching his back. “Like this.”
“Yeah.” Tito gently gripped his left white wing and pulled it out and then grabbed the right black one. Akira could feel the strain and he winced. “Bear with it. I need you to try to move them.”
“How?” They all grew quiet and he sighed. “I really don’t know.”
Daisuke spoke up, “Flex your muscles.” The brunette closed his eyes and tried to get them to move.
After a few minutes Tito asked, “Are you trying?”
“I can’t.” He shook his head, “I just can’t.”
Zev lowered his head and he watched as Daisuke and Tito left the room. Cyan was looking at Akira, “If you can’t move them then you might lose them.”
“I know that!”
The wolf walked over and placed his hand on the table he knelt down. They looked each other in the eyes and he said. “Don’t try, just move it.”
“What?”
“Like a tail. Just move it.”
“You're not helping I have wings.”
“Trust me.” He smiled and placed his hands over his. “Just move.”
“Fine.”
Akira closed his eyes and sighed. A few seconds passed, “Are you moving?”
“I’m trying.”
“There not moving.”
“I’m trying.”
“There still not moving.”
“I’m trying!”
“You’re not trying just like you weren’t trying when you fought Abner; I still saved your ass!”
Cyan winced when there was a loud crack and the wings folded against Akira’s back, he was off the table. Zev found himself against the wall and Akira growled out, “The last I looked you got your puppy ass knocked out!” He grinned and pointed. “What?”
“You folded them.”
Daisuke walked down the stairs and stopped, “What’s with all the shouting?”
“Akira’s wings made this loud crack when Zev pissed him off.”
“Told you.”
“Akira.” The older brunette ran his hand over his face. “Okay, let’s see if it worked.”
“I didn’t even think about it.” The male looked at his wings.
“I want to see how much your flying needs work on. Tito put it away; Akira’s wings are working now!”
“Good!” It was a muffled reply. Daisuke gave a sigh of relief and smiled.
They were standing outside the cabin. “Now let’s see if you remember how to fly.”
“Look! I’m flying!” A woman clapped her hands. “When he comes to get us I’ll show him. I’ll be as fast as him!”
“What about your mommy?”
“I’ll work on that next!” The boy flew over and hugged the woman.
“Happy fifth birthday!”
He shook his head and held it. “Akira?”
“I’m fine.” The male walked forward and sighed. “You damn well know I can’t fly.”
“Fine I’ll show you the pointers. Keep up!”
Zev crouched in the snow Cyan was watching them. Just like always Akira picked up on the first step quick and they watched as he got his feet up off the ground.
The sun had just risen and in those few hours Akira had learned how to fly, Zev was lying on the ground his eyes closed. A spray of snow hit him in the face and he sat up sputtering. Looking over he saw Akira. “What the…?”
“I said I was landing.”
He saw the skid marks in the snow. “So you learned how to land. Damn and I missed out on you messing up.” Some more snow smacked him in the face. “What?”
“Just felt like kicking snow.”
Zev grabbed a hand full and Akira jumped up as the ball flew at him. “Damn it, stay on the ground!”
The wolf jumped up and grabbed Akira’s foot, they both fell to the ground in a tangle of limbs. When they both opened their eyes they were inches apart. Akira was on top of him and they stared at each other. He pushed himself up and was about to stand up when Zev hugged him. The male almost reacted, but he felt the emotions. He relaxed and his arms wrapped around Zev’s neck, since his face was buried against his stomach. His hand ran through his hair, which was getting longer. ‘Its right below his ear.’
^^^^^^
A phone rang and was answered. “I’ve found him.”
“Good. When the signal is giving finish him.”
“Yes father.”
Tito glared at Daisuke, “You're so nice.”
The older brunette waved him off, “It’s the truth.”
“Ass.”
“Pain.”
“Stop acting like kids.” Flare was looking back and forth between the two; Cyan was just shaking his head.
“Will you two get along long enough to help Akira?”
“Fine.” It came out as a grumble.
Zev slid over to Akira and looked at him. “Well?”
“I’m still not use to the idea.”
He nodded, “If it was me I’d flip.”
“Really?”
“Yes, even though it’s a pain in the ass.”
“Really?” The male smirked and Zev scowled.
“Akira, come over here and lay down.” He walked over and sat on the low table. “On your stomach.”
“Fine.” He still didn’t like the idea of people touching his back. “Like this.”
“Yeah.” Tito gently gripped his left white wing and pulled it out and then grabbed the right black one. Akira could feel the strain and he winced. “Bear with it. I need you to try to move them.”
“How?” They all grew quiet and he sighed. “I really don’t know.”
Daisuke spoke up, “Flex your muscles.” The brunette closed his eyes and tried to get them to move.
After a few minutes Tito asked, “Are you trying?”
“I can’t.” He shook his head, “I just can’t.”
Zev lowered his head and he watched as Daisuke and Tito left the room. Cyan was looking at Akira, “If you can’t move them then you might lose them.”
“I know that!”
The wolf walked over and placed his hand on the table he knelt down. They looked each other in the eyes and he said. “Don’t try, just move it.”
“What?”
“Like a tail. Just move it.”
“You're not helping I have wings.”
“Trust me.” He smiled and placed his hands over his. “Just move.”
“Fine.”
Akira closed his eyes and sighed. A few seconds passed, “Are you moving?”
“I’m trying.”
“There not moving.”
“I’m trying.”
“There still not moving.”
“I’m trying!”
“You’re not trying just like you weren’t trying when you fought Abner; I still saved your ass!”
Cyan winced when there was a loud crack and the wings folded against Akira’s back, he was off the table. Zev found himself against the wall and Akira growled out, “The last I looked you got your puppy ass knocked out!” He grinned and pointed. “What?”
“You folded them.”
Daisuke walked down the stairs and stopped, “What’s with all the shouting?”
“Akira’s wings made this loud crack when Zev pissed him off.”
“Told you.”
“Akira.” The older brunette ran his hand over his face. “Okay, let’s see if it worked.”
“I didn’t even think about it.” The male looked at his wings.
“I want to see how much your flying needs work on. Tito put it away; Akira’s wings are working now!”
“Good!” It was a muffled reply. Daisuke gave a sigh of relief and smiled.
They were standing outside the cabin. “Now let’s see if you remember how to fly.”
“Look! I’m flying!” A woman clapped her hands. “When he comes to get us I’ll show him. I’ll be as fast as him!”
“What about your mommy?”
“I’ll work on that next!” The boy flew over and hugged the woman.
“Happy fifth birthday!”
He shook his head and held it. “Akira?”
“I’m fine.” The male walked forward and sighed. “You damn well know I can’t fly.”
“Fine I’ll show you the pointers. Keep up!”
Zev crouched in the snow Cyan was watching them. Just like always Akira picked up on the first step quick and they watched as he got his feet up off the ground.
The sun had just risen and in those few hours Akira had learned how to fly, Zev was lying on the ground his eyes closed. A spray of snow hit him in the face and he sat up sputtering. Looking over he saw Akira. “What the…?”
“I said I was landing.”
He saw the skid marks in the snow. “So you learned how to land. Damn and I missed out on you messing up.” Some more snow smacked him in the face. “What?”
“Just felt like kicking snow.”
Zev grabbed a hand full and Akira jumped up as the ball flew at him. “Damn it, stay on the ground!”
The wolf jumped up and grabbed Akira’s foot, they both fell to the ground in a tangle of limbs. When they both opened their eyes they were inches apart. Akira was on top of him and they stared at each other. He pushed himself up and was about to stand up when Zev hugged him. The male almost reacted, but he felt the emotions. He relaxed and his arms wrapped around Zev’s neck, since his face was buried against his stomach. His hand ran through his hair, which was getting longer. ‘Its right below his ear.’
A phone rang and was answered. “I’ve found him.”
“Good. When the signal is giving finish him.”
“Yes father.”
