I seemed to have distressed my readers with the way Caramel ended. I actually liked the ending because it was the original ending I had envisioned. This particular book strayed all over the place. It seemed to be more of a relationship building book more than anything. The action all took place in the last 10 chapters.
Xavier and Armor were fine to begin with. Most of their issues were addressed in Cinnamon. Azrael and Marcus, the bondage bunnies, found their way towards trust and basically found out about themselves and each other. Sex and Claudius….hmmm what to say about them…a bit more stable but prone to shakes.

What has Sex’s problem been? Well what has everyone said Sex’s problem been? He reacts without thinking. This walking out and falling into the clutches of the Northern Pack, until he burnt their paws off, then getting captured by Orel Wessel is an example of that. Ending up as Hades sex slave in Cinnamon is another big example of that. Good can come out of it as well, case in point, smashing Claudius’ shield open.
Now Claudius is left painted as bastard at the end of Caramel. Tsk. Tsk. That would be a severe change in character. X and the brothers got wings but it didn’t really change his personality. The same goes for Claudius. “A Father’s Love”—he has demonstrated over and over again what he will do for his children. Britta has pushed the envelope with X, still trying in effort to get Haley back. Claudius has seen this and stepped up to shield his son. This is an opportunity to get the brothers out of the limelight, to give them a chance to grow, master their powers, raise a family basically give them the normal vampiric life. Accepting the mantle of Lord Emperor even for a few years would give the brothers a chance to stabilize.
In theory a good plan. In implementation, Sex has ran off half-cocked and Sasha couldn’t run after him to stop him, to explain. By the time he could, there is nothing left but scorch marks on the steps leading up to the hall. Sex was gone.
Now, there has been a mixed bag of reaction based on early reviews. Allow me to explain the long years absence. I don’t’ want to write about 9 babies.—3 winglets, 5 puppies and 1 human. I want the children have their own personality now. 6 year olds can walk, talk run and have attitude. Two years can too I guess, but the rest of the devastating effects on the POD would seem to be too much. That Armor would just collapse in on himself in the span of a few months is just not feasible. The Lycan puppies are the same age as the winglets but as they were born in wolf form and stay that way until they can transform, they mature faster. They may be 6 years old but they look like 12 years old.
The other question was why is X and the brothers out of communication range by everyone. I cannot really say at this time. I know it, but that would be giving away too much. Let’s just say that Orel Wessel is not a back woods race supremacist group. They are well funded and well organized and killing off scientists in a sneak attack isn’t the same as taking on the remaining ¾ ths.
As you probably have been following the Lord Emperor series, you have heard me say that I have the beginning, the climax and the end. It is the same as always. I don’t think CLOVE will be as relationshipy as Caramel but you knows at this time. I’m just to buckle up for the ride.
P.S. Lanseng did not know about the attempt. WHY?
1. He was still reeling from encountering a Dead Soul
2. He was busy with getting the Emperor’s wedding just right
3. He was stunned as with the rest of the crowd when Bruce showed up
4. The guilt he has now for failing his Hashmalliam, will color his relationship with the remaining POD.
