Chap 18

*Daylith’s View*

Hours went by and Timmy hadn’t come down from my room at all. I went up once to see if he was hungry but he looked so comfortable sleeping, I felt bad to wake him up.

My father stayed in his room grieving over what happened to my mom, so I watched TV downstairs alone until it got late enough that I decided to go to bed as well.

Before I went upstairs I knocked on the basement door. Either my dad was sleeping, or couldn’t hear me, but there was no response.

I wish there was a way I could comfort him, but I had no comforting words to lend out. I told him over dinner not to tell Timmy about my mom passing away. I didn’t want him treating me differently; I wasn’t looking for pity.

No one knew my mother like me. No one saw or heard the things I did, therefore, no one would understand how her death was a relief to me.

Anyway, knowing that she’s better off this way allows me to move on. Unfortunately, I can’t pass these feelings onto my dad who continues to grieve the woman he remembers from before he left us thirteen years ago.

Before walking away to go upstairs I said, “Goodnight Dad,” even though I knew he wouldn’t hear me. He was the only one I felt bad for in this situation, I can only imagine how many regrets he was fighting right now.

As I went up the stairs I pushed all those thoughts behind me and prepared myself to go to sleep so I wouldn’t be tired for school tomorrow. If I was to keep my promise to Timmy, I’d have to have a rested and sound mind in order to hold myself back from Marcus.

I went into my room to see Timmy still sleeping. A street-light from outside lit the dark room enough for me to see him laying on his side with the blanket kicked down to his feet.

I quietly went into the bathroom to brush my teeth and take a piss. When I got out I saw that Timmy had changed position but was still fast asleep. I let out a sigh and took my clothes off, leaving only my boxers on.

Timmy was still wearing all of his clothes, or mine I should say, and I wasn’t sure if I should take them off for him or not. I decided not to risk waking him up so I just laid down and readjusted the blankets.

The room was so quiet, I could only hear Timmy’s soft breathing and the muffled sound of the insects outside. Eventually I felt my eyes grow heavy, and I fell asleep.

*Timmy’s View*

My body became uncomfortable as it dealt with hunger pains until I eventually woke up. When I opened my eyes, I was surprised to see that it was dark in the room and I looked at the clock to the side of me to see it was 11:12 pm.

‘Damn, how did I sleep so long!?’ I thought while sitting up.

I looked to the other side of me to see Daylith laying on his back obviously sleeping. His head was slightly tilted so he faced in the opposite direction, and his hand rested on his chest while the other was above his head. He looked so peaceful and when looking at his face, it felt so unreal to think that he was my boyfriend.

I leaned back down and propped myself up on my elbow so I could get a better look at him.

His expression was calm and his firm chest rose and fell with each steady breath. I wanted to touch him, but I didn’t want to wake him up.

I tried to force myself to leave him alone and go downstairs to find something to eat, but I couldn’t pull myself away.

I looked at his masculine hands, yearning to have them on me. If only I hadn’t slept for so long, but there was nothing I could do about that now.

I selfishly decided to risk waking him up, and very lightly reached for his arm. I slid my hand up his arm until it rested on the top of his hand. He didn’t react at all, so I felt confident that he was in a deep sleep. I gently lifted his arm and placed it to the side of him, exposing his entire upper body.

I watched as the shadows defining his shoulders and chest slightly shifted with each breath he took.

‘I can’t believe this is mine,’ I thought possessively while running the tips of my fingers over his collar bone. I trailed my fingers down to his chest where I rested my hand. His lips parted to release a breath and I paused, afraid he was starting to wake up, but fortunately I was wrong.

I bit my bottom lip, trying to concentrate on keeping my hand steady. I continued to slide my hand lower until it was under the blanket. He took in a deep breath and I glanced at his face again to make sure he was still sleeping.

His stomach felt so warm, and his skin was soft yet firm from the muscle underneath. I wondered what it would feel like to have him force himself on me. Would it be like Marcus, or different?

I leaned down and softly kissed his chest when the tips of my fingers reached the waistband of his boxers. I was tempted to push my hand further, but I didn’t.

I kissed him again, trailing my lips to his shoulder while simultaneously running my hand over his stomach. He began taking in deeper breaths and he lightly turned his head. I paused again, and watched his face. His lips moved and I heard a very distant mumble of something, but nothing was coherent.

I was struggling to fight off my arousal so I pulled myself away and quietly got out of the bed. I went into the bathroom and shut the door.

‘What the fuck was I just doing!?’ I thought to myself while looking in the mirror.

I let out a short laugh and thought, ‘too bad I’m not brave enough to do anything like that when he’s awake.’

After using the bathroom my stomach growled again, and I decided to go downstairs and find a snack.

I saw that there was leftover Chinese food in the fridge, but I wasn’t in the mood for that, so I just ate a bowl of cereal before going back to bed.

It was hard for me to fall asleep after sleeping the whole day, but once an hour or two went by of laying still, I managed to find sleep.

The next morning I heard the alarm go off, followed by Daylith grunting and turning it off. I was about to get up when his hand smacked me in the face.

“Get uppppppppppppp.” He moaned groggily.

I gritted my teeth before saying, “Stop hitting me every morning you asshole!”

“Yea yea.” He said while letting out a yawn.

The morning went on the usual way. We both got dressed and ready for school, ate a quick breakfast, and ran to the bus stop to catch the bus.

While we were waiting I saw Daylith looking up at the sky.

“Looks like its gonna rain.” He claimed.

I looked up and agreed with him.

“Is today a blue day?” Daylith asked.

“Yea. I think so.”

“Damn. Guess we don’t have gym today.” He said disappointedly.

“Yea I know. But whatever. We’ll obviously see each other after school.”

“Nah, I wanna see you before that.” He stood there thinking and then said, “I know, I’ll cut English to go to your lunch.”

I laughed and said, “That’s dumb. Don’t ruin your attendance when you can see me after school.”

He looked at me like I was stupid, “Shut up.”

“Fine. Do what you want.” I surrendered.

“Hey look, the bus is coming.” I said while pointing down the road.

He turned to look and then he looked back at me seriously. Somehow I knew what he was thinking, and I told him not to say anything to Marcus, and that I’d take care of it when I’d have to.

I wish I could have felt as confident as I sounded, but I dreaded the second the bus would stop here, and it wasn’t very long.

The breaks screeched as the bus came to a stop, and the doors folded open to show the driver staring down at us. Daylith stepped in first and I swallowed hard before following after him.

I walked down the aisle, trying to focus on the back of Daylith’s head, rather than the people around us. It was Marcus who I didn’t want to see, but that was inevitable. As I walked passed him, I heard him say “hey” as he grabbed my wrist.

Daylith kept walking ahead of me and sat down. Once he noticed Marcus’s hold on me, I saw him glare in our direction.

“So I see he’s back.” Marcus stated.

“Yea. So that deal we had is over.”

Marcus stared at me harshly and I heard the bus driver tell me that I had to sit before she could leave.

“Sit here.” He said while moving over.

I glanced over at Daylith and gestured that I’d only be a minute and he nodded his head before looking out of the window.

I sat down and I hated how our legs touched from being so close in the seat. His friend next to him kept looking at me with a grin on his face which pissed me off. I bet he knew everything.

“So let’s hear what you said before again.”

I was afraid other people around us would hear, but when I paid attention to how loud they were talking, I doubted they’d hear us over their own conversations.

“I said it’s over. Daylith knows, and if you still want to threaten his rep and his place on the basketball team, go tell him.”

Marcus smiled, “So you actually told him? I’m surprised.”

He looked away from me, and it was relieving to have his conniving stare off of me.

“I bet you feel real high right now. You think you’ve stopped me. Right?”

I felt a little nervous and I wasn’t sure what to say.

“Don’t think Daylith’s any threat to me.” He began, “I only used blackmail on you that time because I wanted to try you submissively. I don’t mind having to take you by force.”

I gritted my teeth in anger from his comment and the sound of his friend chuckling in the background didn’t help.

He put his hand on my leg, “I don’t understand why your so resistant Latin. I’m providing you with the perfect opportunity to get good free sex.”

His friend laughed even harder and I knew he was being even more of a jackass to impress his friend. It made me feel real low that he had so much power over me.

“I’m done talking to you.” I said and got up to go back to my seat.

I heard him and his friend laughing behind me and it made me feel sick. I could only imagine what he tells his friends. After everything that he does to me, I’m sure he has plenty of stories.

Daylith moved closer to the window and I sat down.

“What happened?” He asked.

“Well I told the stupid fuck, but he’s still being an ass.”

“What’d he say?”

“Nothing. Don’t worry about it.”

He didn’t say anything and turned to face the window.

The rest of the ride to school was completely quiet between us. It was until we got into the building that Daylith said, “See you after school.”

“Wait. Are you still gonna come to my lunch?”

“Uh, I don’t know, maybe.”

I just nodded my head and walked down the hall. I could tell he wasn’t happy with me. Maybe it was because I wouldn’t tell him what Marcus said. Either way, I went to class and tried not to think about it.

Aside from school, I don’t think I’ve been to a place where time moved so slow. The speed of time here was almost painful, and there’ve been times when I thought the clock broke and the hands were stuck in the same spot. It was moments like this that made me wish I was a studious student like some of the other people here, maybe then the time would go by faster.

I was sitting in my fourth period math class doodling pictures of Marcus being hanged and shot in the head when I heard a bunch of noise coming from down the hall. There was a bang followed by the droning sound of students yelling, “Ooooooooohhhh!”

The teacher paused his lesson and I lifted my head to see my classes attention focused on the hallway.

“I think there’s a fight in the cafeteria.” I heard one of the other students say getting excited.

The noise kept getting louder and I could see other students running down the hall passed our doorway to get to the cafeteria.

“There is! There’s a fight!” Another kid in the class shouted. Just then everyone jumped out of their seats and made a run for the door as the teacher futilely attempted to keep all of them in their seats.

I got up too and left; only a few people stayed behind.

When I got outside I realized that the fight wasn’t inside the cafeteria but it was in the hall right before the cafeteria doors. I ran over and tried to see above everyone’s heads, but it was nearly impossible. Piles of students were forcing their way out of the lunch room doors to see, while everyone else formed a circle around the two people fighting.

Over everyone’s shouting I managed to hear someone ask, “Who’s fighting?!” But I didn’t catch a response.

People kept backing up to make room for whoever was fighting, and the noise and kids pushing and shoving was getting annoying so I decided to leave. It wasn’t like I could see anyway. Just when I was about to push my way out of the crowd I heard someone ask the same question as before, only this time there was an answer, and it held me in my place.

“It’s Marcus and that new kid!”

“Oh shit! Back up! Haze just jumped in!” More kids yelled.

The nerves in my body shook, and I felt borderline paralyzed.

I knew that Haze was one of Marcus’s friends, and if they were fighting Daylith, he’d be outnumbered.

I heard the sound of a body hitting the lockers followed by shouts of the security guards trying to push their way through and calling for more help over their walky-talkies.

Based on how thick the crowd was becoming, I knew they wouldn’t get through on time, especially when the other students didn’t want to let them break up the fight. I was closer to the center then they were so I pushed my way between the other kids until I saw what was actually happening.

Daylith had just punched Marcus in the face when Haze went behind him and locked his arms behind his back to restrain him. Daylith tried pulling himself out of Haze’s grip, anger clear across his face, but Marcus regained his balance and punched Daylith in the stomach.

Marcus cursed before hitting Daylith again, and I knew I should have gone in to help but I couldn’t even move. It was almost like my brain couldn’t process what to do other than watch in shock.

I saw Haze let go and Daylith dropped to his knees. The shouts of the students leaped even higher in response.

Some were yelling for Daylith to get up, while others praised Marcus. Just then, Kevin, another one of Marcus’s friends pushed his way out of the crowd to join Marcus and Haze in kicking Daylith while he was down.

The fight wasn’t fair at all and I finally found enough sense to stop standing around. I went in and pushed Kevin away using all of my strength and weight, which opened enough distance for me to get to Haze.

I swung a punch as hard as I could, and felt his teeth press into my knuckles. From the corner of my eye I could see Daylith get up and go after Marcus again, and I continued to fend off Haze. Just then Kevin grabbed me from around the waist and slammed me down onto the ground. He tried holding me down but I used my shoulder and legs to lift him up to free enough room for me to wrap my arm around his head and pull him down onto the floor. Once his back hit the floor I punched him as hard as I could and quickly stood up to be tackled by Haze and another one of Marcus’s friends named Thomas who came out of nowhere.

They pushed me into the lockers behind me and Thomas grinded a punch in my stomach causing me to buckle over in pain. My ears were ringing and parts of my body stung, but I ignored it and used my weight to ram into Haze so I wouldn’t be cornered in front of the lockers. I managed to glance over at Daylith and I saw him beating on Kevin while Marcus was in the process of being held back by a security guard.

Just when I was getting ready to hit Haze again, a security guard followed by a few others managed to get through and grab us. I let them pull me back, but Daylith wasn’t so easy.

“I’m gonna fucking kill you Marcus! Let me go!” He shouted with venom in his eyes. Fortunately the security guard was bigger than Daylith and managed to hold him back.

Marcus just stood there glaring at him while wiping the blood from his eye and mouth as the other security guard held his arm.

Eventually we were all restrained and pulled out of the crowd to be led down the hall. I looked over at Daylith as we were walking, and he looked back at me with his mouth lifted in somewhat of a smile.

Once down the hall, we were all awkwardly seated in the office until the Principle called us in two at a time to ask a series of questions pertaining to what happened and who started what. Either way, all of us ended up with a weeks worth of suspension, and everyone who was on the Basketball team, which was everyone but me, had their positions at risk.

Afterwards we were sent to the nurses office where we were put into individual rooms in groups of two. Daylith and I shared a room, and we both had our own cot on opposite ends of the room.

I turned my head to face him and asked, “What the hell happened Daylith? Why did you fight him?”

He wouldn’t look at me when he answered, “I know. I’m sorry. I broke my promise.”

After he said that the room became silent. I wasn’t really sure what to say. All I could think of was that the school was going to call my Uncle, and that would probably open up a whole new problem that I didn’t feel like dealing with.

“I just.” Daylith began to say. “I’m so tired of him Timmy. When I saw him in the hall I went over to him and said that I quit the team, and I told him he needed to back off. But then he pulled that smug attitude saying, “What’ll you do if I don’t,” like he’s all tough or something. So I punched the asshole in his face, and…you know the rest.”

“What do you think your dad will say?” I asked, and Daylith’s face grew solemn.

*Daylith’s View*

I completely forgot about my dad. All he needed right now was to get a phone call saying that his son got into a fight and was going to be suspended. Not only will he think he failed his wife as a husband, but now he’ll think he failed me as a father. Just the thought of it made me mad, and what fired me up even more was that it was Marcus’s fault. It was amazing how much trouble one dirtbag could cause.

“He won’t be happy. That’s for sure.” I said, while leaving out the details.

“Well on the good side,” He began to say, “We’ll have a whole week without school. And who knows, maybe we won’t have to deal with Marcus ever again.”

“Yea… sounds good.” I said while looking at the ceiling light.

“Yea…It would have been cool though if we could’ve won that fight though.

Despite the pain, I couldn’t help but laugh. “It was two against four! Considering we did as much damage as them, I’d say we did win.”

“Yea, that’s true.” He agreed.

“Whatever, that doesn’t matter. Just relax while you can because once the nurse comes in here we’re gonna have to get up and move around.”

“Yea your right.” He said while re-positioning himself more comfortably.

I also got comfortable, which was nearly impossible to do on these cheap cots, and waited quietly for the nurse to come in and take care of us.
