Chapter 18
Not far away came a loud snarl and power rolled off of Blaine as he cloaked all three of them in stealth. He stalked up to the two on the couch, much to angry for words. How could he? How could he?! After all Blaine had ever done for Novus, he turns around and cheats on him with him, his own twin?! Words could not describe the betrayal he felt. Shortly, Blaine withdrew the stealth and was off running. He had promised never to hurt Novus again. He planned to keep that promise this time.
Novus pulled away from Shi as Blaine approached, his eyes growing wide. Blaine was...angry with him. Novus blinked, then looked at Shi. He growled lowly as he realized what had happened. "You...gah!!!" he said with fustration, not able to find the right words at the moment. This person who looked like him....why, why??? Novus had never seen him before in his life, yet they seemed to be twins! The diabolizer jumped to his feet and was of running after Blaine, as quick as he could, even though the vampire could run much faster than him. ~Blaine!~ he called out, black tears already cutting paths down his flushed cheeks.
Blaine had already closed off his mind to Novus. Novus's calls went unheard to Blaine. He quickly followed a scent well-known to him. It had been ages since he had paired up with this man. Yet... he knew he would be accepted back with open arms. He was here, in this town. Blaine knew it. He knew this vampire had followed him and Novus here. It didn't take him long to find the one he sought out. He was reclining with two human women who were scantily clad, making up small talk with them. "Spike... I've come... to rejoin with you." Blaine was betrayed. His own love... the one he protected from everything ... And even still, Blaine couldn't protect Novus from himself.
Spike sat up, smiling with glee. Oh, how he had plans now... The towns they could ravage, the blood they could drink. He could only assume what had happened to make Blaine change his mind. Even still, he dared not ask since it was all too possible that Blaine would turn against him. In response, Spike shoved one of the women at Blaine. Blaine took her, gazed at her for a moment. After a few seconds, his teeth tore into her neck ruthlessly.
Novus, not being able to find Blaine, sought out his horse instead. He rode hard and fast home, hoping Blaine might be there. He arrived at the dark mansion in hardly any time at all, and desperately looked around, trying to find his master. "Blaine! Blaine!!!" he called out to the deaf, uncaring rooms.
Alexis emerged from one of the rooms, a black robe pulled around her, showing off her every curve. "Novus. What is it? What's wrong?" she asked quickly. She feared the worst, but she had not fed in a while, so she was slightly weakened. She dared not use her powers of mind-reading right now, lest it drain her and incite the young diabolizer.
Novus was on the verge of tears as he whirled to face the queen. "He...there was a misunderstanding!!!" he told her, voice raised a bit higher than was necessary. He pushed his fingers through his tossled hair, breathing quick and shallow and his facial expression looking quite frantic and upset.
Alexis hurried down the stairs, Marius not far behind her. Together they wrapped Novus in a warm embrace. "Shh... Tell us what happened, Novus," Marius said gently. Somehow, he felt responsible for Novus, even though he had yet to teach him anything. Alexis felt just as responsible for the young diabolizer, as if he were a part of her extended family.
Novus blinked, desperately trying to think clearly, which was hard because of the current situation and the drink or two he had had. "Well there was this person....he looks almost exactly like me...he kissed me, and I think I am drunk or something because I kissed him back!!! His lips were so soft..." Novus ranted, then shook his head. "But Blaine happened to see this, now I think he's really very angry with me...! And I didn't mean anything...and I can't find Blaine!" Novus told the queen and Marius frantically, eyes wide.
With a nod from Alexis, Marius was off to inform Aydrien. Alexis remained, trying to soothe Novus. "Clear your head, little Novus." She stroked his head, sending soothing waves into his mind. They attacked the fogginess that the drink imbued to allow Novus a clear mind. "We'll find him, ok? I promise you."
Meanwhile, Spike and Blaine went about through the town Novus had departed. They were spitting images of each other, Spike in red, Blaine complementing him in black. They went about the town picking off humans one by one. Currently, they had about six kills each. Turner sighed in the safety of his mansion. Alone, he was no match for the both of them together. He only hoped that his town's salvation was near at hand.
After awaking and hurriedly getting dressed, the Prince headed out. With him came Laepheus, eyes completely red like Aydrien's. ~Sir Turner,~ Laepheus called out for Turner's mind alone. ~The Prince and I are arriving,~he said, just as they appeared by Turner's mansion. ~We shall aid you in the suppresion of the two who are currently terrorizing your domain.~
Novus felt better from Alexis's attention, and he began to calm down a little bit. He nodded at her words.
Meanwhile Shi had run off, although a bit tipsy, as he sensed the growing danger. He ran to his meager flat in one of the buildings in the more run-down part of town, and curled up on his bed. What exactly had happened this night? He wasn't sure, but he knew it was bad....he knew...
Turner, for the second time this night, hurriedly raced through the shadows in his shadowpahse. He came out in Shi's home. "Shi! You must come with me! Blaine approaches with his brother! He intends to kill you!"
It was true. Blaine was near at hand. Spike leaned against an opposite wall, across from Shi's home. "Go on, Blaine. Taste the blood of that incubus inside. It'll make you feel much better. Tear him apart." Blaine growled with a malicious smile and opened the door. He was met with a barrier. He growled again and somehow managed to force his way inside.
Shi jumped up from his bed, wide-eyed. He clung to Turner without asking any questions, his small frame shaking. "Save me..." Shi said, voice making barely any real sound at all. His mouth and throat were suddenly so dry from panic and fear.
Turner clung to Shi. Just before he was able to shadowphase however, Blaine ran in. He grabbed Shi by his long hair and plunged his fangs into his neck. Turner managed to dislodge Blaine and was immediately gone. Blaine, realizing that his meal had gotten away, roared out his displeasure.
Turner returned safely to his mansion, where he laid the bleeding Shi upon a bed and began to tend to his wound. "Do not move, Shi. Blaine managed to get inside of your home somehow. I fear that if you move, you might anger the wound. Tell me, quickly, how faint do you feel?"
Shi blinked, convulsing slightly from the shock of that wound. The fangs had pierced right down to a major artery, so he couldn't think clearly because his brain wasn't getting the amount of blood it needed. ~Very faint...~ he managed to say, via mindspeak. His mind's voice was light and trilling, like silver chimes on a breezy day. His sweet, dark blood stained the sheets beneath him.
"Shit," Turner cursed underneath his breath. He didn't really want to turn this one, but he didn't want him to die either. Quickly, he stood and peered out of the window. Blaine and Spike were rapidly approaching. ~Prince! Please, tell me you are not far away. My barriers will only hold so long,~ he called out to the one of the only people he respected. He turned back to Shi and checked his pulse. "Do not fade on me, youngling. I doubt you would like being a Diabolizer."
Indeed the Prince and Laepheus were not far at all. Laepheus intercepted Blaine and Spike, while the Prince stayed hidden within the shadows to attack if he needed to. "What's the meaning of this???" Lae demanded to know, not overly threatening, but keeping alert and on guard.
Shi brought one of his petite hands up to his neck, a weak attempt to stop the bleeding. His body convulsed again, and his eyes closed as he almost slipped from conciousness.
Blaine stepped forward, but Spike held him back. Instead, Spike gave an answer for the both of them. "Why, our prey was just stolen. We wish to have it back. We weren't going to kill the incubus. Just... have a little fun with him." He grinned wickedly. "Don't tell me you've never thought of the same."
Turner looked around for something to stop the bleeding but found nothing. ~Shi... Do you want to be Turned? In my care, you would handle the changes with ease. Not completely without pain, but lesser than you would normally.~
"That may be so," Laepheus said, his tone firm, "But the lord Turner has called for my help in keeping you two away. This is his domain, is it not? Begone," Lae told them, his voice that of authority. The Prince remained hidden, even hiding his thoughts and aura expertly.
~I am dying...?~ Shi asked, even though he felt he was. He was even paler than he had been before. His vision was getting worse and worse, and he felt himself slipping. ~Help...~
Blaine growled. "No chance. That one is mine. He... He's dead." Blaine, just as easily, hid his own thoughts away. His aura, however, flared dangerously, like a snake, coiled and ready to strike.
Turner shook a little. He really didn't want to do this, but it seemed as though he had no choice now. He drew a long, pointed fingernail down the vien in his right arm and held the wound so it would drip into Shi's mouth. ~Drink. You'll live through this if you do.~
"Oh is he? Then you have no reason to seek him out. What use do you have for dead blood?" Laepheus asked, knowing damn well dead blood as only poison. "Settle any other disputes you have, with the Prince. Now leave this place," he commanded, having the authority to do so, since he was the Prince's right-hand man.
Shi took in every drop hungrily, literally starving for blood. It didn't take long at all before he was grabbing at Turner's arm and sucking greedily at the wound, his own wound beginning to close up as he did so.
Blaine growled loudly while his brother, next to him, growled lowly and dangerously. Where Lae had the authority to tell them to leave, he didn't have the power to make them. Blaine knew the Prince was nearby. He laughed inwardly. He wanted the Prince to come out. He wanted to taste the blood of the Prince that he despised.
Turner grimaced in pain. Slowly, carefully, he dislodged Shi's grip on his arm and held the wound closed to heal completely. A few seconds later he turned his attention back to Shi, quickly assesing something that it seemed only he could see. He stood and walked into a separate room, but was back shortly, carrying a tray with a varied assortment of medicines. Some were pills, of which he gave Shi two each, and the rest were herbs, where Turner gave the incubus a leaf, two stems, and three roots. "Eat it all. It will aid you in your pain and make the transformations go much more smoothly."
Shi ate these quickly while he could still function, but even as he swallowed the last of it down convulsions were already wracking through his small frame as his mortal death came on. However, this didn't last long, for the medicine numbed him and he died a quiet, semi-peaceful death. It didn't take as long for Shi as it had for Novus for Shi to reawaken. Shi's eyes were already pitch-black as he opened them, and he was pulled to a sitting position as if attached to strings. The new Diabolizer wasn't even a minute old and the Prince was already channeling power through him, in effect doubling himself. Now it was Laepheus and two Princes against Spike and Blaine.
"I give you your final warning," Laepheus called, Cresblade materializing in his hands. The sword was single-edged and half serrated, given to him long ago by the queen of the underworld herself.
Marius walked up out of the shadows. He motioned Lae to stand down, nodding appreciatively at the familiar blade. He strode up, his anklets clinkling merrily as the bells were jostled with every step. His nearly non-existant clothing, two floor length pieces of material held up by a belt, low around the waist, showed off his deep tan, perfect skin and his flawless, chisled muscles. An egyptian headress made for a pharoah (white and red) adorned his head, as it always did when he went out on Alexis' orders. "The Queen commands that you stop. All three of you..." he said in his deep, accented voice. His aura reached out to both Blaine and Spike, but also past Laepheus towards the Prince. "She is not happy with this. There is senseless destruction going on in peaceful lands and she will not stand for it. She requests that you, Blaine, forget Shi and return at once to your home. To your Novus."
Blaine took a minute to absorb his words and was off immediately, back to his home. Spike looked defeated, but then completely angry as if he had just lost something he had worked so hard to get. Completely ignorant to the fact that he was in so much danger, he roared at both Lae and Marius. His fangs had lengthened yet again, making them visibly longer than Blaine's. His eyes turned to their unique array of colors and even his nails had lengthened considerably, tapering to form diamond-hard claws.
Inside, Turner could not begin to understand why Shi was acting so strangely. "Shi!" he called out again and again, trying desperately to get him to answer.
Shi did not reply, his concsious mind shoved aside by the Prince and the intense power channeling through him. The Prince did not let him go yet out of caution, because Spike was still near, and still being a threat. Shi, eyes and skin and hair now entirely pitch-black, stood and approached the window, peering unblinkingly out at the scene below.
Laepheus still brandished his sword, not letting his gaurd down until Spike was far, far away from him. He did not enjoy this at all. Spike would have to stand down, though... there was just too much power against him, the odds were not in his favor.
Spike felt the power around him and for once felt frightened. It didn't last long, however. He growled lowly. "We'll finish this another time..." And he was gone. How he was gone so suddenly was unexplained, but he was gone. He was no longer in the town, as since his prescence no longer remained.
Turner just remained where he was, staring wide-mouthed and wide-eyed at Shi. He knew what other, younger Diabolizers could be capable of, what they could be used for. But never in his thousands of years had he ever witnessed it firsthand. Never had he ever had the desire to turn against the Prince, but this was just.... wrong. Older and more competant beings should never prey on the young and incapable. It was just... wrong.
Lae grinned, and his sword dissapated. He knew this was far from over...but at least for now things would hopefully be quiet. He and the Prince's presences dissappeared, heading back to their home.
Once the Prince let go of Shi, the dark, black aural power swirled violently upward and was gone, leaving the young diabolizer his normal colors. He collapsed to the floor, his energy quite low because it took so much to hold steady against the onrush of the Prince's power. The newborn lay upon the rough wooden floor unconcious, eyes half lidded and breathing shallow.
Turner ran to Shi quickly. He was helpless at this point. He knew the young demon now needed both blood and a soul, but he had little to no way of getting it. As if reading his concerns from outside, Marius quickly grabbed a nearby human, supressed her with his mind, and brought her to Turner. "Here. I am to be off to my Queen. Take care of the new one. No doubt you will know how to train him." With a nod from Turner, Marius shadowphased and was gone. The human girl remained, eyes blank as Turner kept his hold on her. "Shi..." he said gently, shaking the boy to try and wake him. "You need to feed. There is a human girl here for you to do as you wish to her."
Shi, eyes still mostly blank, suddenly reached up and grabbed a hold of the girl's clothes to yank her down to his level. In his desperation he clamped his mouth over the girl's and ripped most of her soul out without any other preparation. This was not a common skill...Novus couldn't do this. The violent taking left the girl coughing violently with a bit of blood trickling down her chin and neck...she was not dead. Still hungry Shi pinned her to the floor and sat atop her. He bit into her neck with an almost animalistic hunger, draining her quickly, and making a bit of a mess.
Turner understood this ravenous hunger. However, Shi's apparent ease with taking her soul amazed him, yet at the same time it frightened him. He knew that, if it came to it, he would be able to defend himself against Shi. For the time being, he remained where he was, watching Shi closely.
Shi quickly finished with the girl and sat up. He looked around with his new eyes...a deep, but luminescent ocean-blue that you could literally drown in. His lips, chin, and neck was terribly stained with blood, but he did not seem to notice. Then his gaze suddenly focused on Turner. "....I did something terrible..." he spoke, his voice a soft, lilting melody, but carrying dark undertones...hidden secrets and power. "And...I'm sorry..." he very nearly whispered, finding it hard to speak as those black tears stained his eyes and cut paths down his white cheeks. The way he said sorry....it was as if he was apologizing to Turner, himself, and Novus and Blaine who could not hear him.
