Mr. Desmond

Celeste stood and walked over to Phillip and put her small hands on his knees. He looked up at her his dark eyes almost black were red a puffy from crying.

“Lets go” she whispered and touched his hand. He blinked and closed his hand around hers and let her lead him out of the room.

They walked out of the room and Celeste closed the door. It didn’t help much, even though a door now separated them, he still knew what was there. Celeste tugged on his arm. He looked down at her. She couldn’t have been more than eleven, though she was petite, and timid, she took charge and led him down the corridor.

“This isn’t a safe place anymore.” She said.

“I don’t think….anywhere is….not now.”

“I think we should find Nathan.”

“And Angie.”

“Angie isn’t here.”

“Where is she?”

“She is safe.” She said simply in a tone that Phillip felt no need to question. At least Angela was alright.

*****
Angela screamed as the tank shattered sending the gross fluid all over the floor rushing to her feet. When she had dialed the numbers and pulled the levers like Beta had asked she never expected the thing to explode

Beta lay slumped on the floor like a discarded pile of flesh, for a moment Angie thought the creature had died, been unable to survive without the tank, but then at last she stirred. It tool her a few moments to get control of her stubby limbs, her hair was long and greasy looking, and he body was slimy and covered in thick membrane like material. When she stood she was no more than three feet tall, and despite her rows of teeth and disfigured being, she looked no more harmless than a crippled toddler.

Her breathing was labored to say the least, in fact it looked like she was choking, Beta spewed out a large glomp of runny tank gunk. Then said thank you in a low scratchy voice that sounded more like a hiss than actual speech. Her feet were short and stubby like a baby. She was almost…cute, in an undead murdering mutant kind of way. One quick look into those eyes took all the cuteness away.

No matter how helpless this creature seemed it was still designed to kill.

Desmond Stewart sat in his Italian leather chair as he flipped through his suede bound appointment book , it had been a gift from some woman whose name he now found he could not remember. He was in his late 50’s, grey colored hair with a receding hairline. He smelled of cherry cigars and expensive cologne. He was short and somewhat plumb, though his round cheeks did not give him the sweet grandfatherly look, they only seemed to make him look piggish.

Today he had an appointment with some stiff government type, whose name he also could not remember, upon flipping to the proper page he found that he would dining at the Flaming Dragon a fine Japanese restaurant with very good Sushi, and his favorite Peking Duck.

Where it was not the most luxurious restaurant in Crede, he found it most charming, the service was good, and the separate dining rooms for each guest made it very private, and privacy, was one of his favorite things. Being the most powerful man in the country, if not the world, privacy was a rare commodity.

Once he had been a revered scientist, known for his many breakthroughs in genetic research, and now he was the owner of the most powerful research laboratory of them all, the Facility. Unknown to the scientific community, he had spent the last thirty years of his life creating creatures beyond anyone’s wildest nightmares, with which he planned on using to make sure that he remained the most powerful man. Ghosts, were the key to his ideal future, a future were science overpowers nature, and he, a man of science ruled.

With the advancements in the Celeste project he could feel his ideal future coming closer. None of this, however, would be possible without the government’s gracious donations. As long as he kept them pleased, the money would keep coming, and so would his vision. In return for there money he gave them what they wanted, weapons to set loose upon their enemies. Little did they know that the creatures they possessed were mere fire crackers in comparison to Celeste, who was in essence, a nuclear bomb. A bomb that could not be diffused, stopped, or controlled by anyone but himself. She was his little secret.

A soft tap on the door, his secretary, a young woman with large breasts and long legs walked in. Her name was Melanie, and the reasons he choose her to be the one to work close to him were obvious, she looked like a dirty magazine centerfold.

“Gavin is here to see you Mr. Desmond.” She smiled a toothy smile showing too much gum line.

“Thank you Darlin’ send him in please…” he had a defined southern drawl,

“Yes sir.” She turned around, he watched her tight ass as she walked away, the short mini skirt she was wearing made him want to say fuck lunch, and go and have one of their little ‘Sessions’ together. But when Gavin walked in, scowling with his arm in a sling, he forgot all of his previous thoughts disappeared. The young man shut the door.

“What the hell happened to you?! You know better than to come up here to my office without an appointment!”

“Sir we have a problem…it’s with Experiment Three and Celeste.”

“Well spit it out…and you better not bleed on my damn carpets, they’re worth more than your life.”

Angela watched as the creature shredded the door like it was tissue paper. She was surprised to find that there were no guards. Obviously they didn’t think she was much of a threat. Angie looked around, she knew she could find her way back to the store room from here.

‘I’m going to shut down the security systems, in about ten minutes you should be able to leave freely.’

Angela found it odd that Beta was still speaking through her mind, but she was kind of glad, it was less startling than her voice.

“You’re staying here?”

‘I have things I wish to take care of before I see the world.’

Beta turned and wobbled away from Angie.

“Thank you.”

Beta did not answer.
