CHAPTER 6

Vhet was asleep when he felt hands on him. Hands that started at his chest before working their way down to his groin. And then breath at his neck and weight on him as someone climbed on top of him. Groggily, he reached for the body against him. His hand ran down a spine that jutted out just a bit too much and his eyes shot open.

Maesha was naked, straddling him. Vhet was hard. He felt Maesha pressing against him and he let out a small grunt.

“Maesha, what are you doing?” Vhet questioned.

“I want to please you,” he answered, leaning down to kiss Vhet. Vhet kissed him back, his hands coming to rest against Maesha's neck.

It felt good. Vhet didn't want it to stop. And then he remembered Maesha compliantly underneath Delmir, a look of misery on his face. His erection waned.

“Maesha, stop.”

Maesha sat up, looking sorrowful.

“They say I would be useful as a pleasure slave. Really, I am okay with that, just please don't sell me.”

Vhet pulled the young man close to him, gently petting hair with one hand as he pulled the blanket over them.

“Maesha, I can't make you any promises.”

Maesha gripped him tighter, and cried.

-

The next morning, Vhet woke to Maesha curled peacefully around him. He wondered what had gotten into the boy last night.

Vhet touched Maesha's hair and he let out a shuddering breath.

-

They went home and things returned to normal. Maesha remained withdrawn, and kept mostly to himself. He behaved, and did as he was told. Lady Alna seemed resigned to his presence. Delmir simply glowered at him.

It was raining outside. Maesha was scanning the books in the study, lighting touching their bindings. He picked one, and took a seat in one of the arm chairs and began reading.

Delmir came in a few moments later, a perplexed look on his face. He came straight over to Maesha, and knelt, looking sorrowful as he placed his face in the smaller man's lap. Maesha sat rigid.

“Soon, Maesha. He will be gone, and things will be back to normal.”

Maesha wiggled away from him. Back to normal?

“You know I love you right?” Delmir questioned, a gentle smile pulling at his lips as he looked up to the young man.

Maesha reached out and struck him across the face.

“You are a liar!” he snarled as he plunged away from the armchair. It toppled to the side, leaving Delmir with a stunned look on his face, kneeling in the floor.

And then Maesha began screaming at him.

“If you loved me you would have stopped your father!”

Maesha backed across the room, body trembling in anger.

“If you loved me you wouldn't have sat in the dark and watched!”

Delmir got up. By now, Vhet had come to stand outside of the study, alarmed.

“You are a coward! To hide while he beat me for something you did!”

Delmir charged at him, and Maesha scrambled across the desk, sending paper, books, and ink all over.

Maesha was crying hot, angry tears.

“If you loved me you wouldn't have stopped and handed me over!”

Maesha crumbled, body heaving as he sobbed.

Delmir covered the ground to get to him in two more long strides, and then stopped. All the anger seemed to drain from him in that moment, and then he turned and left. Vhet saw on his way out that he was pale in the face.

Vhet stood in the doorway and watched as Maesha calmed himself down, and then just sat there. A blank look plastered on his face.

After a few moments, Vhet walked to the young man.

Suddenly, Maesha turned an accusatory gaze onto him.

“Don't! You pretend that you care, but you really don't! In the end, it isn't going to matter.”

-

Maesha became bitter after that. Even Delmir tried to avoid the boy who looked at him with hate filled eyes.

He did everything Vhet told him to do, but something was lost in the boy. He was no longer the sweet innocent thing he once was. His attitude was sour, and he kept looking at Vhet like he was one of the men that had hurt him.

To Maesha, he was. It was soon coming time for Vhet to leave him. He wanted more than this life and he was never going to get it.

-

“Look at what you've done to him!” Delmir snarled as Vhet arranged the papers on his desk.

“What I have done to him? I think you and your father are to blame for molding him into what he is,” Vhet stated calmly.

“He didn't start acting the way he did until you came here and changed his world.”

Vhet stood up, slamming his fist into the desk.

“That's only because he didn't have a world before I showed up!”

“Things will go back to normal once you are gone,” Delmir spoke as he walked out.

Suddenly, Vhet looked drained.
