17 on to Overland
All of the folk that could travel on the winds were fed, by both animal and man. The worst trouble makers of the rabble were no more and the force finally began to form a semblance of dedication and resolve. Three had been promoted to replace Desta, under the hand of Glem. None but the few taken had fought against the move, most were glad to see them gone.
The force came to the ocean shore. Overland lay north, well out of sight over the long horizon. Here, the Lost Folk had a surprise, a truly welcome one.
In great glass hangars that had been untouched, sealed, for the millennia, lay a small fleet of ancient but serviceable metal ships.
The folk divided themselves into masters and mates, showing the wondering rabble how the things worked. A few small accidents later, and the fleet set sail, slowly, but faster than they could have rowed with sail unfurled. By the time they reached Overland, they were all competent seamen.
‘Land of Southern Mists’ was correct and the Lost Folk kept to human form in the main in order for them to march without halting every few steps to see where they went.
They progressed well, surprised but not worried that no fighting had been necessary in the one place they had expected the harshest resistance. The few folk they came across were sullen and downtrodden, most eager to join the force to show Overlord and His exactly what they thought of the rule!
Jacs found herself enjoying relationships with the Leaders of the Lost quite frequently, much to the amusement of both Hadad and Glem. If they were enough to keep her satisfied, she was welcome, as long as she had enough energy left for them.
And what satisfaction she found! Both her Lord and her General would NEVER understand the thrill of the unknown, as the beings could stimulate places they would never find - particularly in whisp form. The feeling of a barely felt fog entering coldly to burst into sparks of heat pressing as a solid in ways that the human form could not possibly do was indescribable. She knew not how many had moved upon her, but she found the pleasures of her life in the possession.
